1حکمت خانه ای برای خود ساخته است که دارای هفت ستون می باشد.
1Wisdom hath builded her house, she hath hewn out her seven pillars:
2و ضیافت بزرگی ترتیب داده و انواع شراب را مهیا نموده دسترخوان خود را هموار کرده است.
2She hath killed her beasts; she hath mingled her wine; she hath also furnished her table.
3کنیزان خود را به سر چهار راهی های شهر فرستاده است تا با صدای بلند فریاد کنند:
3She hath sent forth her maidens: she crieth upon the highest places of the city,
4«ای مردم ساده دل و ای کسانی که عقل کامل ندارید،
4Whoso is simple, let him turn in hither: as for him that wanteth understanding, she saith to him,
5بیائید و از غذای من بخورید و از شرابی که آماده نموده ام، بنوشید.
5Come, eat of my bread, and drink of the wine which I have mingled.
6نادانی را ترک کنید و حکمت بیآموزید.»
6Forsake the foolish, and live; and go in the way of understanding.
7اگر آدم فریبکار را که دیگران را مسخره می کند سرزنش کنی، به خودت توهین خواهد شد. و هر که مرد شریری را ملامت کند، به خود صدمه خواهد زد.
7He that reproveth a scorner getteth to himself shame: and he that rebuketh a wicked man getteth himself a blot.
8هرگز شخص خودخواه را سرزنش مکن، زیرا او از تو نفرت خواهد کرد، اما اگر مرد دانایی را سرزنش کنی، به تو علاقه مند خواهد شد.
8Reprove not a scorner, lest he hate thee: rebuke a wise man, and he will love thee.
9هر چه به شخص دانا بگویی، داناتر می شود، و هرچه به شخص درستکار بگویی، دانش او بیشتر خواهد شد.
9Give instruction to a wise man, and he will be yet wiser: teach a just man, and he will increase in learning.
10ترس خداوند، ابتدای حکمت است و شناختن آن قدوس، اصل دانش می باشد.
10The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom: and the knowledge of the holy is understanding.
11زیرا آن دانش، عمر تو را طولانی می کند.
11For by me thy days shall be multiplied, and the years of thy life shall be increased.
12اگر دانا هستی از دانائی خود نفع خواهی برد و اگر حکمت را ناچیز بشماری به خودت زیان می رسانی.
12If thou be wise, thou shalt be wise for thyself: but if thou scornest, thou alone shalt bear it.
13زن بدکار موجود بی حیا است و شهوت و بی شرمی او پایانی ندارد.
13A foolish woman is clamorous: she is simple, and knoweth nothing.
14بر دروازۀ خانۀ خود می نشیند و یا سر چهارراهی ها می ایستد.
14For she sitteth at the door of her house, on a seat in the high places of the city,
15رهگذرانی را که در فکر کار خود شان هستند دعوت می کند.
15To call passengers who go right on their ways:
16و می گوید: «ای مردم ساده دل، به اینجا بیائید» و به مردم نادان می گوید:
16Whoso is simple, let him turn in hither: and as for him that wanteth understanding, she saith to him,
17«آب دزدی شیرین تر و نانی که در پنهانی خورده شود، خوشمزه تر است.»مردمی که فریب می خورند، نمی دانند کسی که به خانۀ آن زن برود، زندگی خود را از دست می دهد و کسانی که به خانۀ او رفته اند، اکنون در قعر جهنم می باشند.
17Stolen waters are sweet, and bread eaten in secret is pleasant.
18مردمی که فریب می خورند، نمی دانند کسی که به خانۀ آن زن برود، زندگی خود را از دست می دهد و کسانی که به خانۀ او رفته اند، اکنون در قعر جهنم می باشند.
18But he knoweth not that the dead are there; and that her guests are in the depths of hell.
