¹ای قوم من به تعلیمات من گوش دهید و به سخنان دهانم گوش فرا دهید.

¹Give ear, O my people, to my law: incline your ears to the words of my mouth.

²دهان خود را به مَثَل ها باز خواهم کرد و چیزهای را شرح خواهم داد که از بنای عالم مخفی بوده است،

²I will open my mouth in a parable: I will utter dark sayings of old:

³چیزهای که شنیده و دانسته ایم و پدران ما برای ما بیان کرده اند.

³Which we have heard and known, and our fathers have told us.

⁴ما هم آن ها را از فرزندان ایشان پنهان نخواهیم کرد. ستایشات خداوند را و قدرت او و معجزات شگفت انگیزی را که او کرده است، برای نسل های آینده بیان می کنیم.

⁴We will not hide them from their children, shewing to the generation to come the praises of the LORD, and his strength, and his wonderful works that he hath done.

⁵خداوند شهادتی در یعقوب برپا داشت و احکامی در اسرائیل وضع کرد و پدران ما را امر فرمود که آن ها را به فرزندان خود تعلیم دهند،

⁵For he established a testimony in Jacob, and appointed a law in Israel, which he commanded our fathers, that they should make them known to their children:

⁶تا نسل آینده آن ها را بدانند و فرزندانی که در آینده متولد می گردند نیز برخاسته و آن ها را به فرزندان خود بیان نمایند.

⁶That the generation to come might know them, even the children which should be born; who should arise and declare them to their children:

⁷و ایشان به خدا توکل نمایند و اعمال خدا را فراموش نکنند بلکه احکام او را اطاعت کنند.

⁷That they might set their hope in God, and not forget the works of God, but keep his commandments:

⁸تا مثل پدران خود نسل سرکش و فتنه انگیز نشوند که دل شان با خدا راست نبود و نه روح ایشان بسوی خدا وفادار.

⁸And might not be as their fathers, a stubborn and rebellious generation; a generation that set not their heart aright, and whose spirit was not stedfast with God.

⁹مردم افرایم با وجودیکه با تیر و کمان مسلح بودند، در روز جنگ فرار کردند.

⁹The children of Ephraim, being armed, and carrying bows, turned back in the day of battle.

¹⁰پیمان خدا را نگاه نداشتند و مطابق احکام او عمل نکردند.

¹⁰They kept not the covenant of God, and refused to walk in his law;

¹¹کارهای خداوند را فراموش کردند و معجزاتی را که او به ایشان ظاهر کرده بود.

¹¹And forgat his works, and his wonders that he had shewed them.

¹²در برابر چشمان پدران شان در سرزمین مصر و صوعَن، کارهای شگفت انگیزی بعمل آورد.

¹²Marvellous things did he in the sight of their fathers, in the land of Egypt, in the field of Zoan.

¹³آب بحر را دو شق کرده، ایشان را عبور داد و آبها را مانند دیوار برپا داشت.

¹³He divided the sea, and caused them to pass through; and he made the waters to stand as an heap.

¹⁴در روز آن ها را در زیر سایۀ ابر و هنگام شب با نور آتش هدایت می نمود.

¹⁴In the daytime also he led them with a cloud, and all the night with a light of fire.

¹⁵در بیابان صخره ها را بشگافت و آب فراوان، مثل آبی که از عمق ها به دست می آید، به آن ها فراهم نمود.

¹⁵He clave the rocks in the wilderness, and gave them drink as out of the great depths.

¹⁶آب از صخره ها فوران کرد و مثل نهرها جاری شد.

¹⁶He brought streams also out of the rock, and caused waters to run down like rivers.

¹⁷با وجود همۀ اینها، بار دیگر نسبت به او گناه ورزیدند و در برابر خدای متعال در بیابان آشوب برپا کردند.

¹⁷And they sinned yet more against him by provoking the most High in the wilderness.

¹⁸در دلهای خود خداوند را امتحان کردند، زیرا از او برای ارضای نفس خود غذا خواستند.

¹⁸And they tempted God in their heart by asking meat for their lust.

¹⁹بر ضد خدا حرف می زدند و می گفتند: «آیا خدا می تواند در این بیابان سفره ای برای ما تهیه کند؟

¹⁹Yea, they spake against God; they said, Can God furnish a table in the wilderness?

²⁰بلی، دیدیم که او صخره را زد و آبها روان شد و نهرها جاری گردید، پس آیا می تواند نان را نیز بدهد و گوشت برای قوم برگزیدۀ خود حاضر سازد؟»

²⁰Behold, he smote the rock, that the waters gushed out, and the streams overflowed; can he give bread also? can he provide flesh for his people?

²¹وقتی خداوند این را شنید، غضبناک شد و آتش در یعقوب شعله ور شد و خشم بر اسرائیل افروخته گردید،

²¹Therefore the LORD heard this, and was wroth: so a fire was kindled against Jacob, and anger also came up against Israel;

²²زیرا به خدا ایمان نداشته و به قدرت نجات بخش او اعتماد نکردند.

²²Because they believed not in God, and trusted not in his salvation:

²³پس ابر ها را از بالا امر فرمود و دریچه های آسمان را گشود.

²³Though he had commanded the clouds from above, and opened the doors of heaven,

²⁴آنگاه «مَنّا» را بر ایشان بارانید تا بخورند و غلۀ آسمان را به ایشان بخشید.

²⁴And had rained down manna upon them to eat, and had given them of the corn of heaven.

²⁵مردمان از غذای فرشتگان خوردند و آذوقۀ فراوان داشتند.

²⁵Man did eat angels' food: he sent them meat to the full.

²⁶باد شرقی را در آسمان وزانید و با قدرت خود باد جنوبی را آورد.

²⁶He caused an east wind to blow in the heaven: and by his power he brought in the south wind.

²⁷گوشت را برای شان مثل غبار فرستاد یعنی پرندگان را مانند ریگ دریا.

²⁷He rained flesh also upon them as dust, and feathered fowls like as the sand of the sea:

²⁸او آنرا در بین خیمه ها و اطراف اقامتگاه شان فرود آورد.

²⁸And he let it fall in the midst of their camp, round about their habitations.

²⁹همگی خوردند و سیر شدند و آنچه که نفس شان آرزو داشت، به آن ها داده شد.

²⁹So they did eat, and were well filled: for he gave them their own desire;

³⁰ایشان از طمع خود دست بردار نبوده و غذای دهن را هنوز فرو نبرده بودند،

³⁰They were not estranged from their lust. But while their meat was yet in their mouths,

³¹که غضب خدا بر ایشان شعله ور گردیده، تنومندان شان را کشت و جوانان اسرائیل را هلاک ساخت.

³¹The wrath of God came upon them, and slew the fattest of them, and smote down the chosen men of Israel.

³²با وجود این همه، آن ها دست از گناه نکشیدند و به معجزات او ایمان نیاوردند.

³²For all this they sinned still, and believed not for his wondrous works.

³³بنابران او کاری کرد که روزهای شان در بیهودگی گذشت و سال های شان در وحشت و ترس.

³³Therefore their days did he consume in vanity, and their years in trouble.

³⁴هنگامیکه عده ای از آنها را کشت، بقیه به خدا رو آورده، توبه نمودند و حضور او را طلبیدند.

³⁴When he slew them, then they sought him: and they returned and enquired early after God.

³⁵آن ها به یاد آوردند که خدا صخرۀ ایشان و خدای متعال رهانندۀ ایشان است.

³⁵And they remembered that God was their rock, and the high God their redeemer.

³⁶اما با دهان خود به او چاپلوسی کردند و با زبان خویش به او دروغ گفتند،

³⁶Nevertheless they did flatter him with their mouth, and they lied unto him with their tongues.

³⁷زیرا که دل ایشان با او راست نبود و به عهد وی وفادار نماندند.

³⁷For their heart was not right with him, neither were they stedfast in his covenant.

³⁸اما او از روی رحمت خود گناه ایشان را بخشیده، آن ها را هلاک نساخت بلکه بارها از غضب خود برگشته و تمامیِ خشم خود را ظاهر نکرد.

³⁸But he, being full of compassion, forgave their iniquity, and destroyed them not: yea, many a time turned he his anger away, and did not stir up all his wrath.

³⁹و بیاد آورد که آن ها بشر هستند و مثل بادی که می وزد و بر نمی گردد.

³⁹For he remembered that they were but flesh; a wind that passeth away, and cometh not again.

⁴⁰آن ها به مراتب در بیابان در مقابل او سرکشی نمودند و در صحرا او را رنجانیدند.

⁴⁰How oft did they provoke him in the wilderness, and grieve him in the desert!

⁴¹بارها او را امتحان کردند و به قدوسِ اسرائیل بی حرمتی نمودند.

⁴¹Yea, they turned back and tempted God, and limited the Holy One of Israel.

⁴²قدرت او را به خاطر نداشتند، روزی که ایشان را از دشمن رهانیده بود،

⁴²They remembered not his hand, nor the day when he delivered them from the enemy.

⁴³که چگونه نشانه های خود را در مصر ظاهر ساخت و معجزات خود را در دیار صوعَن.

⁴³How he had wrought his signs in Egypt, and his wonders in the field of Zoan.

⁴⁴دریاها و نهرهای شان را به خون تبدیل کرد، طوریکه آب برای نوشیدن نداشتند.

⁴⁴And had turned their rivers into blood; and their floods, that they could not drink.

⁴⁵انواع حشرات نیشدار را فرستاد که آن ها را گزیدند و بقه ها که به آن ها آسیب رسانیدند.

⁴⁵He sent divers sorts of flies among them, which devoured them; and frogs, which destroyed them.

⁴⁶کِشت و زراعت شان را بوسیلۀ کرمها تلف کرد. محصول زحمت شان را خوراک ملخ ها ساخت.

⁴⁶He gave also their increase unto the caterpiller, and their labour unto the locust.

⁴⁷تاکستان ایشان را با ژاله خراب کرد و درختان انجیر شان را با ژاله های بزرگ.

⁴⁷He destroyed their vines with hail, and their sycomore trees with frost.

⁴⁸رمه و گلۀ شان را به ژاله سپرد و مواشی شان را به شعله های برق.

⁴⁸He gave up their cattle also to the hail, and their flocks to hot thunderbolts.

⁴⁹آتش خشم خود را بر ایشان فرستاد، یعنی غضب و خشم شدید و مصیبت را با فرشتگان هلاکت.

⁴⁹He cast upon them the fierceness of his anger, wrath, and indignation, and trouble, by sending evil angels among them.

⁵⁰غضب خود را جاری ساخت و جان ایشان را از موت نرهانید، بلکه به مرض کشندۀ وبا تسلیم نمود.

⁵⁰He made a way to his anger; he spared not their soul from death, but gave their life over to the pestilence;

⁵¹همۀ نخست زادگان مصریان را کشت و اولباری های قوّت ایشان را در خیمه های حام.

⁵¹And smote all the firstborn in Egypt; the chief of their strength in the tabernacles of Ham:

⁵²آنگاه قوم برگزیدۀ خود را مثل گوسفندان از مصر بیرون آورد و ایشان را در بیابان همچون گله ای رهنمایی نمود.

⁵²But made his own people to go forth like sheep, and guided them in the wilderness like a flock.

⁵³ایشان را در امنیت رهبری کرد تا نترسند، اما بحر دشمنان شان را در کام خود فرو برد.

⁵³And he led them on safely, so that they feared not: but the sea overwhelmed their enemies.

⁵⁴بعد ایشان را به سرزمین مقدس خود آورد، به این کوهی که با قدرت دست راست خود حاصل کرده بود.

⁵⁴And he brought them to the border of his sanctuary, even to this mountain, which his right hand had purchased.

⁵⁵امت ها را پیش روی ایشان بیرون راند و مُلک شان را با ریسمان تقسیم نموده و قبایل اسرائیل را در خیمه های ایشان ساکن گردانید.

⁵⁵He cast out the heathen also before them, and divided them an inheritance by line, and made the tribes of Israel to dwell in their tents.

⁵⁶لیکن آن ها بازهم خدای متعال را امتحان کردند، به او آشوب برپا کردند و شهادات او را نگاه نداشتند.

⁵⁶Yet they tempted and provoked the most high God, and kept not his testimonies:

⁵⁷ایشان برگشته، مانند پدران خود خیانت ورزیدند و مثل کمان نادرست، منحرف شدند.

⁵⁷But turned back, and dealt unfaithfully like their fathers: they were turned aside like a deceitful bow.

⁵⁸با ساختن بتخانه ها در جاهای بلند خشم او را برافروختند و با پرستش بتهای خویش غیرت او را به هیجان آوردند.

⁵⁸For they provoked him to anger with their high places, and moved him to jealousy with their graven images.

⁵⁹چون خدا این را شنید، غضبناک گردید و از اسرائیل به شدت متنفر گردید.

⁵⁹When God heard this, he was wroth, and greatly abhorred Israel:

⁶⁰پس خیمۀ شیلو را ترک نمود، آن خیمه ای که جای سکونت را که در میان آدمیان برپا ساخته بود.

⁶⁰So that he forsook the tabernacle of Shiloh, the tent which he placed among men;

⁶¹به دشمنان موقع داد تا صندوق پیمان را که نشانۀ قدرت او بود، به اسیری برند و جلال خود را به دست ایشان سپرد.

⁶¹And delivered his strength into captivity, and his glory into the enemy's hand.

⁶²قوم برگزیدۀ خود را به شمشیر تسلیم نمود و بر میراث خود غضبناک گردید.

⁶²He gave his people over also unto the sword; and was wroth with his inheritance.

⁶³جوانان آن ها را در آتش هلاک ساخت و دوشیزگان شان بی شوهر ماندند.

⁶³The fire consumed their young men; and their maidens were not given to marriage.

⁶⁴کاهنان شان با شمشیر بقتل رسیدند و بیوه های شان امکان عزاداری را نداشتند.

⁶⁴Their priests fell by the sword; and their widows made no lamentation.

⁶⁵سرانجام خداوند مثل کسی که بیدار شده و مانند شخص نیرومندی که از باده سرخوش گردیده است،

⁶⁵Then the LORD awaked as one out of sleep, and like a mighty man that shouteth by reason of wine.

⁶⁶دشمنان خود را به عقب راند و برای همیشه خجل و سرکوب ساخت.

⁶⁶And he smote his enemies in the hinder parts: he put them to a perpetual reproach.

⁶⁷خانوادۀ یوسف را رد کرد و قبیلۀ افرایم را نپذیرفت،

⁶⁷Moreover he refused the tabernacle of Joseph, and chose not the tribe of Ephraim:

⁶⁸بلکه قبیلۀ یهودا و کوه سهیون را که دوست می داشت، برگزید.

⁶⁸But chose the tribe of Judah, the mount Zion which he loved.

⁶⁹او در آنجا عبادتگاه خود را مثل کوههای بلند و مثل زمین که استوار و همیشه پایدار است، بنا کرد.

⁶⁹And he built his sanctuary like high palaces, like the earth which he hath established for ever.

⁷⁰بندۀ خود، داود را برگزید و او را از آغل های گوسفندان گرفت.

⁷⁰He chose David also his servant, and took him from the sheepfolds:

⁷¹او را از عقب میش های شیری آورد تا قوم برگزیدۀ او یعقوب و میراث او اسرائیل را چوپانی کند.پس داود ایشان را با صداقت دل چوپانی نمود و با مهارت دست هدایت کرد.

⁷¹From following the ewes great with young he brought him to feed Jacob his people, and Israel his inheritance.

⁷²پس داود ایشان را با صداقت دل چوپانی نمود و با مهارت دست هدایت کرد.

⁷²So he fed them according to the integrity of his heart; and guided them by the skilfulness of his hands.
