¹{A Psalm of Asaph.} Truly God is good to Israel, to such as are of a pure heart.

¹Aasafi laul. Jumal on tõesti hea Iisraelile, nendele, kes on puhtad südamelt.

²But as for me, my feet were almost gone, my steps had well nigh slipped;

²Aga mina - minu jalad oleksid peaaegu komistanud, mu sammud oleksid kohe libisenud.

³For I was envious at the arrogant, seeing the prosperity of the wicked.

³Sest ma kadestasin hooplejaid, kui ma nägin õelate head käekäiku.

⁴For they have no pangs in their death, and their body is well nourished;

⁴Sest neil ei ole piinu surmani ja nende keha on lihav.

⁵They have not the hardships of mankind, neither are they plagued like [other] men:

⁵Nemad ei ole vaevas nagu muud surelikud ja neid ei lööda nagu muid inimesi.

⁶Therefore pride encompasseth them as a neck-chain, violence covereth them [as] a garment;

⁶Sellepärast on uhkus nende kaelaehteks, vägivald katab neid nagu ülikond.

⁷Their eyes stand out from fatness, they exceed the imaginations of their heart:

⁷Nende silmad on pungis lihavusest ja süda keeb üle kurjadest mõtetest.

⁸They mock and speak wickedly of oppression, they speak loftily:

⁸Oma kurjuses nad irvitavad ja kõnelevad valet, nad räägivad kõrgilt.

⁹They set their mouth in the heavens, and their tongue walketh through the earth.

⁹Nad tõstavad oma suu taevani ja nende keel käib üle maa.

¹⁰Therefore his people turn hither, and waters in fulness are wrung out to them.

¹⁰Sellepärast pöördub ta rahvas nende poole ja nad rüüpavad nende sõnavalingut.

¹¹And they say, How can ùGod know, and is there knowledge in the Most High?

¹¹Ja nad ütlevad: 'Kuidas Jumal võib seda tunda ja kas Kõigekõrgemal on sellest teadmist?'

¹²Behold, these are the wicked, and they prosper in the world: they heap up riches.

¹²Vaata, niisugused on õelad: nad elavad alati rahulikult ja koguvad jõukust.

¹³Truly have I purified my heart in vain, and washed my hands in innocency:

¹³Päris asjata olen ma hoidnud oma südame puhta ja olen süütuses pesnud oma käsi;

¹⁴For all the day have I been plagued, and chastened every morning.

¹⁴ma olen olnud löödud kogu päeva ja mind on nuheldud igal hommikul.

¹⁵If I said, I will speak thus, behold, I should be faithless to the generation of thy children.

¹⁵Kui ma oleksin mõtelnud: Ma tahan kõnelda nõnda nagu nemad; vaata, siis ma oleksin petnud sinu laste sugu.

¹⁶When I thought to be able to know this, it was a grievous task in mine eyes;

¹⁶Ma hakkasin mõtisklema, et sellest aru saada, kuid see oli mu meelest vaev,

¹⁷Until I went into the sanctuaries of ùGod; [then] understood I their end.

¹⁷kuni ma sisenesin Jumala pühadesse paikadesse ja mõistsin nende otsa.

¹⁸Truly thou settest them in slippery places, thou castest them down in ruins.

¹⁸Tõesti, sina asetad nad libedale ja sa langetad nad rusuks.

¹⁹How are they suddenly made desolate! they pass away, consumed with terrors.

¹⁹Kuidas nad said jubeduseks silmapilguga! Nad saavad otsa, lõpevad ära ehmatusega.

²⁰As a dream, when one awaketh, wilt thou, Lord, on arising despise their image.

²⁰Nõnda nagu unenägu kaob pärast ärkamist, nõnda sina, Issand, ei hooli tõustes nende varjukujudest.

²¹When my heart was in a ferment, and I was pricked in my reins,

²¹Kui mu süda oli täis kibedust ja mu neerudes olid pisted,

²²Then I was brutish and knew nothing; I was [as] a beast with thee.

²²siis ma olin sõge ega teadnud midagi; ma olin nagu loom su ees.

²³Nevertheless I am continually with thee: thou hast holden my right hand;

²³Ometi jään ma ikka sinu juurde; sa oled haaranud kinni mu paremast käest.

²⁴Thou wilt guide me by thy counsel, and after the glory, thou wilt receive me.

²⁴Oma nõuga juhatad sa mind ja võtad mind viimaks vastu ausse.

²⁵Whom have I in the heavens? and there is none upon earth I desire beside thee.

²⁵Kes on mul muu taevas kui sina? Sest sinuga koos olles ei meelita mind miski maa peal.

²⁶My flesh and my heart faileth: God is the rock of my heart and my portion for ever.

²⁶Kuigi mu liha lõpeb ja mu süda ka, siiski oled sina, Jumal, mu südame kalju ja mu osa igavesti.

²⁷For behold, they that are far from thee shall perish; thou destroyest every one that goeth a whoring from thee.

²⁷Sest vaata, kes sinust eemalduvad, need hukkuvad; sa hävitad kõik, kes reetlikult sinust loobuvad.

²⁸But as for me, it is good for me to draw near to God: I have put my trust in the Lord Jehovah, that I may declare all thy works.

²⁸Aga minu õnn on, et ma olen Jumalale ligi; Issanda Jumala peale panen ma oma lootuse, et jutustada kõiki sinu tegusid.
