¹And Jehovah said to Moses, Depart, go up hence, thou and the people that thou hast brought up out of the land of Egypt, into the land that I swore unto Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob, saying, Unto thy seed will I give it,

¹さて、主はモーセに言われた、「あなたと、あなたがエジプトの国から導きのぼった民とは、ここを立ってわたしがアブラハム、イサク、ヤコブに誓って、『これをあなたの子孫に与える』と言った地にのぼりなさい。

²(and I will send an angel before thee, and dispossess the Canaanite, the Amorite, and the Hittite, and the Perizzite, the Hivite, and the Jebusite,)

²わたしはひとりの使をつかわしてあなたに先立たせ、カナンびと、アモリびと、ヘテびと、ペリジびと、ヒビびと、エブスびとを追い払うであろう。

³into a land flowing with milk and honey; for I will not go up in the midst of thee, for thou art a stiff-necked people, -- lest I consume thee on the way.

³あなたがたは乳と蜜の流れる地にのぼりなさい。しかし、あなたがたは、かたくなな民であるから、わたしが道であなたがたを滅ぼすことのないように、あなたがたのうちにあって一緒にはのぼらないであろう」。

⁴And when the people heard this evil word, they mourned; and no man put on his ornaments.

⁴民はこの悪い知らせを聞いて憂い、ひとりもその飾りを身に着ける者はなかった。

⁵Now Jehovah had said to Moses, Say unto the children of Israel, Ye are a stiff-necked people: in one moment I will come up into the midst of thee and will consume thee. And now put off thine ornaments from thee, and I will know what I will do unto thee.

⁵主はモーセに言われた、「イスラエルの人々に言いなさい、『あなたがたは、かたくなな民である。もしわたしが一刻でも、あなたがたのうちにあって、一緒にのぼって行くならば、あなたがたを滅ぼすであろう。ゆえに、今、あなたがたの飾りを身から取り去りなさい。そうすればわたしはあなたがたになすべきことを知るであろう』」。

⁶And the children of Israel stripped themselves of their ornaments at mount Horeb.

⁶それで、イスラエルの人々はホレブ山以来その飾りを取り除いていた。

⁷And Moses took the tent, and pitched it outside the camp, far from the camp, and called it the Tent of meeting. And it came to pass [that] every one who sought Jehovah went out to the tent of meeting which was outside the camp.

⁷モーセは幕屋を取って、これを宿営の外に、宿営を離れて張り、これを会見の幕屋と名づけた。すべて主に伺い事のある者は出て、宿営の外にある会見の幕屋に行った。

⁸And it came to pass, when Moses went out to the tent, all the people rose up, and stood every man at the entrance of his tent, and they looked after Moses until he entered into the tent.

⁸モーセが出て、幕屋に行く時には、民はみな立ちあがり、モーセが幕屋にはいるまで、おのおのその天幕の入口に立って彼を見送った。

⁹And it came to pass when Moses entered into the tent, the pillar of cloud descended, and stood at the entrance of the tent, and [Jehovah] talked with Moses.

⁹モーセが幕屋にはいると、雲の柱が下って幕屋の入口に立った。そして主はモーセと語られた。

¹⁰And all the people saw the pillar of cloud standing at the entrance of the tent; and all the people rose and worshipped, every man at the entrance of his tent.

¹⁰民はみな幕屋の入口に雲の柱が立つのを見ると、立っておのおの自分の天幕の入口で礼拝した。

¹¹And Jehovah spoke with Moses face to face, as a man speaks with his friend. And he returned to the camp; but his attendant, Joshua the son of Nun, a young man, departed not from within the tent.

¹¹人がその友と語るように、主はモーセと顔を合わせて語られた。こうしてモーセは宿営に帰ったが、その従者なる若者、ヌンの子ヨシュアは幕屋を離れなかった。

¹²And Moses said to Jehovah, Behold, thou sayest unto me, Bring up this people; but thou dost not let me know whom thou wilt send with me; and thou hast said, I know thee by name, and thou hast also found grace in mine eyes.

¹²モーセは主に言った、「ごらんください。あなたは『この民を導きのぼれ』とわたしに言いながら、わたしと一緒につかわされる者を知らせてくださいません。しかも、あなたはかつて『わたしはお前を選んだ。お前はまたわたしの前に恵みを得た』と仰せになりました。

¹³And now, if indeed I have found grace in thine eyes, make me now to know thy way, that I may know thee, that I may find grace in thine eyes; and consider that this nation is thy people!

¹³それで今、わたしがもし、あなたの前に恵みを得ますならば、どうか、あなたの道を示し、あなたをわたしに知らせ、あなたの前に恵みを得させてください。また、この国民があなたの民であることを覚えてください」。

¹⁴And he said, My presence shall go, and I will give thee rest.

¹⁴主は言われた「わたし自身が一緒に行くであろう。そしてあなたに安息を与えるであろう」。

¹⁵And he said to him, If thy presence do not go, bring us not up hence.

¹⁵モーセは主に言った「もしあなた自身が一緒に行かれないならば、わたしたちをここからのぼらせないでください。

¹⁶And how shall it be known then that I have found grace in thine eyes -- I and thy people? [Is it] not by thy going with us? so shall we be distinguished, I and thy people, from every people that is on the face of the earth.

¹⁶わたしとあなたの民とが、あなたの前に恵みを得ることは、何によって知られましょうか。それはあなたがわたしたちと一緒に行かれて、わたしとあなたの民とが、地の面にある諸民と異なるものになるからではありませんか」。

¹⁷And Jehovah said to Moses, I will do this thing also that thou hast said; for thou hast found grace in mine eyes, and I know thee by name.

¹⁷主はモーセに言われた、「あなたはわたしの前に恵みを得、またわたしは名をもってあなたを知るから、あなたの言ったこの事をもするであろう」。

¹⁸And he said, Let me, I pray thee, see thy glory.

¹⁸モーセは言った、「どうぞ、あなたの栄光をわたしにお示しください」。

¹⁹And he said, I will make all my goodness pass before thy face, and I will proclaim the name of Jehovah before thee; and I will be gracious to whom I will be gracious, and I will shew mercy on whom I will shew mercy.

¹⁹主は言われた、「わたしはわたしのもろもろの善をあなたの前に通らせ、主の名をあなたの前にのべるであろう。わたしは恵もうとする者を恵み、あわれもうとする者をあわれむ」。

²⁰And he said, Thou canst not see my face; for Man shall not see me, and live.

²⁰また言われた、「しかし、あなたはわたしの顔を見ることはできない。わたしを見て、なお生きている人はないからである」。

²¹And Jehovah said, Behold, [there is] a place by me: there shalt thou stand on the rock.

²¹そして主は言われた、「見よ、わたしのかたわらに一つの所がある。あなたは岩の上に立ちなさい。

²²And it shall come to pass, when my glory passeth by, that I will put thee in a cleft of the rock, and will cover thee with my hand, until I have passed by.

²²わたしの栄光がそこを通り過ぎるとき、わたしはあなたを岩の裂け目に入れて、わたしが通り過ぎるまで、手であなたをおおうであろう。そしてわたしが手をのけるとき、あなたはわたしのうしろを見るが、わたしの顔は見ないであろう」。

²³And I will take away my hand, and thou shalt see me from behind; but my face shall not be seen.

²³そしてわたしが手をのけるとき、あなたはわたしのうしろを見るが、わたしの顔は見ないであろう」。
