1Moreover Elihu answered and said,
1エリフはまた答えて言った、
2Hear my words, ye wise [men]; and give ear unto me, ye that have knowledge.
2「あなたがた知恵ある人々よ、わたしの言葉を聞け、あなたがた知識ある人々よ、わたしに耳を傾けよ。
3For the ear trieth words, as the palate tasteth food.
3口が食物を味わうように、耳は言葉をわきまえるからだ。
4Let us choose for ourselves what is right; let us know among ourselves what is good!
4われわれは正しい事を選び、われわれの間に良い事の何であるかを明らかにしよう。
5For Job hath said, I am righteous, and ùGod hath taken away my judgment:
5ヨブは言った、『わたしは正しい、神はわたしの公義を奪われた。
6Should I lie against my right? My wound is incurable without transgression.
6わたしは正しいにもかかわらず、偽る者とされた。わたしにはとががないけれども、わたしの矢傷はいえない』と。
7What man is like Job? he drinketh up scorning like water,
7だれかヨブのような人があろう。彼はあざけりを水のように飲み、
8And goeth in company with workers of iniquity, and walketh with wicked men.
8悪をなす者どもと交わり、悪人と共に歩む。
9For he hath said, It profiteth not a man if he delight himself in God.
9彼は言った、『人は神と親しんでも、なんの益もない』と。
10Therefore hearken unto me, ye men of understanding: Far be wickedness from ùGod, and wrong from the Almighty!
10それであなたがた理解ある人々よ、わたしに聞け、神は断じて悪を行うことなく、全能者は断じて不義を行うことはない。
11For a man's work will he render to him, and cause every one to find according to [his] way.
11神は人のわざにしたがってその身に報い、おのおのの道にしたがって、その身に振りかからせられる。
12Yea, surely, ùGod acteth not wickedly, and the Almighty perverteth not judgment.
12まことに神は悪しき事を行われない。全能者はさばきをまげられない。
13Who hath entrusted to him the earth? and who hath disposed the whole world?
13だれかこの地を彼にゆだねた者があるか。だれか全世界を彼に負わせた者があるか。
14If he only thought of himself, [and] gathered unto him his spirit and his breath,
14神がもしその霊をご自分に取りもどし、その息をご自分に取りあつめられるならば、
15All flesh would expire together, and man would return to the dust.
15すべての肉は共に滅び、人はちりに帰るであろう。
16If now [thou hast] understanding, hear this: give ear to the voice of my words!
16もし、あなたに悟りがあるならば、これを聞け、わたしの言うところに耳を傾けよ。
17Should he that hateth right indeed govern? and wilt thou condemn the All-just?
17公義を憎む者は世を治めることができようか。正しく力ある者を、あなたは非難するであろうか。
18Shall one say to a king, Belial? to nobles, Wicked?
18王たる者に向かって『よこしまな者』と言い、つかさたる者に向かって、『悪しき者』と言うことができるであろうか。
19[How then to him] that accepteth not the persons of princes, nor regardeth the rich man more than the poor? for they are all the work of his hands.
19神は君たる者をもかたより見られることなく、富める者を貧しき者にまさって顧みられることはない。彼らは皆み手のわざだからである。
20In a moment they die, even at midnight the people are convulsed and pass away; and the strong are taken away without hand.
20彼らはまたたく間に死に、民は夜の間に振われて、消えうせ、力ある者も人手によらずに除かれる。
21For his eyes are upon the ways of man, and he seeth all his steps.
21神の目が人の道の上にあって、そのすべての歩みを見られるからだ。
22There is no darkness, nor shadow of death, where the workers of iniquity may hide themselves.
22悪を行う者には身を隠すべき暗やみもなく、暗黒もない。
23For he doth not long consider a man, to bring him before ùGod in judgment.
23人がさばきのために神の前に出るとき、神は人のために時を定めておかれない。
24He breaketh in pieces mighty men without inquiry, and setteth others in their stead;
24彼は力ある者をも調べることなく打ち滅ぼし、他の人々を立てて、これに替えられる。
25Since he knoweth their actions; and he overthroweth [them] in the night, and they are crushed.
25このように、神は彼らのわざを知り、夜の間に彼らをくつがえされるので、彼らはやがて滅びる。
26He striketh them as wicked men in the open sight of others,
26彼は人々の見る所で、彼らをその悪のために撃たれる。
27Because they have turned back from him, and would consider none of his ways;
27これは彼らがそむいて彼に従わず、その道を全く顧みないからだ。
28So that they cause the cry of the poor to come unto him, and he heareth the cry of the afflicted.
28こうして彼らは貧しき者の叫びを彼のもとにいたらせ、悩める者の叫びを彼に聞かせる。
29When he giveth quietness, who then will disturb? and when he hideth [his] face, who shall behold him? and this towards a nation, or towards a man alike;
29彼が黙っておられるとき、だれが非難することができようか。彼が顔を隠されるとき、だれが彼を見ることができようか。一国の上にも、一人の上にも同様だ。
30That the ungodly man reign not, that the people be not ensnared.
30これは神を信じない者が世を治めることがなく、民をわなにかける事のないようにするためである。
31For hath he said unto ùGod, I bear [chastisement], I will not offend;
31だれが神に向かって言ったか、『わたしは罪を犯さないのに、懲しめられた。
32What I see not, teach thou me; if I have done wrong, I will do so no more?
32わたしの見ないものをわたしに教えられたい。もしわたしが悪い事をしたなら、重ねてこれをしない』と。
33Shall he recompense according to thy mind? for thou hast refused [his judgment]; for thou so choosest, and not I; speak then what thou knowest.
33あなたが拒むゆえに、彼はあなたの好むように報いをされるであろうか。あなたみずから選ぶがよい、わたしはしない。あなたの知るところを言いなさい。
34Men of understanding will say to me, and a wise man who heareth me:
34悟りある人々はわたしに言うだろう、わたしに聞くところの知恵ある人は言うだろう、
35Job hath spoken without knowledge, and his words were not with intelligence.
35『ヨブの言うところは知識がなく、その言葉は悟りがない』と。
36Would that Job may be tried unto the end, because of [his] answers after the manner of evil men!
36どうかヨブが終りまで試みられるように、彼は悪人のように答えるからである。彼は自分の罪に、とがを加え、われわれの中にあって手をうち、神に逆らって、その言葉をしげくする」。
37For he addeth rebellion unto his sin, he clappeth [his hands] among us, and multiplieth his words against ùGod.
37彼は自分の罪に、とがを加え、われわれの中にあって手をうち、神に逆らって、その言葉をしげくする」。
