1And Elihu proceeded and said,
1エリフは重ねて言った、
2Suffer me a little, and I will shew thee that I have yet words for +God.
2「しばらく待て、わたしはあなたに示すことがある。なお神のために言うべき事がある。
3I will fetch my knowledge from afar, and will ascribe righteousness to my Creator.
3わたしは遠くからわが知識を取り、わが造り主に正義を帰する。
4For truly my words shall be no falsehood: one perfect in knowledge is with thee.
4まことにわたしの言葉は偽らない。知識の全き者があなたと共にいる。
5Lo, ùGod is mighty, but despiseth not [any]; mighty in strength of understanding:
5見よ、神は力ある者であるが、何をも卑しめられない、その悟りの力は大きい。
6He saveth not the wicked alive; but he doeth justice to the afflicted.
6彼は悪しき者を生かしておかれない、苦しむ者のためにさばきを行われる。
7He withdraweth not his eyes from the righteous, but with kings on the throne doth he even set them for ever; and they are exalted.
7彼は正しい者から目を離さず、位にある王たちと共に、とこしえに、彼らをすわらせて、尊くされる。
8And if, bound in fetters, they be held in cords of affliction,
8もし彼らが足かせにつながれ、悩みのなわに捕えられる時は、
9Then he sheweth them their work, and their transgressions, because they have increased.
9彼らの行いと、とがと、その高ぶったふるまいを彼らに示し、
10And he openeth their ear to discipline, and commandeth that they return from iniquity.
10彼らの耳を開いて、教を聞かせ、悪を離れて帰ることを命じられる。
11If they hearken and serve [him], they shall accomplish their days in prosperity, and their years in pleasures.
11もし彼らが聞いて彼に仕えるならば、彼らはその日を幸福に過ごし、その年を楽しく送るであろう。
12But if they hearken not, they shall pass away by the sword, and expire without knowledge.
12しかし彼らが聞かないならば、つるぎによって滅び、知識を得ないで死ぬであろう。
13But the godless in heart heap up anger; they cry not when he bindeth them:
13心に神を信じない者どもは怒りをたくわえ、神に縛られる時も、助けを呼び求めることをしない。
14Their soul dieth in youth, and their life is among the unclean.
14彼らは年若くして死に、その命は恥のうちに終る。
15But he delivereth the afflicted in his affliction, and openeth their ear in [their] oppression.
15神は苦しむ者をその苦しみによって救い、彼らの耳を逆境によって開かれる。
16Even so would he have allured thee out of the jaws of distress into a broad place, where there is no straitness; and the supply of thy table [would be] full of fatness.
16神はまたあなたを悩みから、束縛のない広い所に誘い出された。そしてあなたの食卓に置かれた物はすべて肥えた物であった。
17But thou art full of the judgments of the wicked: judgment and justice take hold [on thee].
17しかしあなたは悪人のうくべきさばきをおのれに満たし、さばきと公義はあなたを捕えている。
18Because there is wrath, [beware] lest it take thee away through chastisement: then a great ransom could not avail thee.
18あなたは怒りに誘われて、あざけりに陥らぬように心せよ。あがないしろの大いなるがために、おのれを誤るな。
19Will he esteem thy riches? Not gold, nor all the resources of strength!
19あなたの叫びはあなたを守って、悩みを免れさせるであろうか、いかに力をつくしても役に立たない。
20Desire not the night, when peoples are cut off from their place.
20人々がその所から断たれるその夜を慕ってはならない。
21Take heed, turn not to iniquity; for this hast thou chosen rather than affliction.
21慎んで悪に傾いてはならない。あなたは悩みよりもむしろこれを選んだからだ。
22Lo, ùGod is exalted in his power: who teacheth as he?
22見よ、神はその力をもってあがめられる。だれか彼のように教える者があるか。
23Who hath appointed him his way? or who hath said, Thou hast wrought unrighteousness?
23だれか彼のためにその道を定めた者があるか。だれか『あなたは悪い事をした』と言いうる者があるか。
24Remember that thou magnify his work, which men celebrate.
24神のみわざをほめたたえる事を忘れてはならない。これは人々の歌いあがめるところである。
25All men look at it; man beholdeth [it] afar off.
25すべての人はこれを仰ぎ見る。人は遠くからこれを見るにすぎない。
26Lo, ùGod is great, and we comprehend [him] not, neither can the number of his years be searched out.
26見よ、神は大いなる者にいまして、われわれは彼を知らない。その年の数も計り知ることができない。
27For he draweth up the drops of water: they distil in rain from the vapour which he formeth,
27彼は水のしたたりを引きあげ、その霧をしたたらせて雨とされる。
28Which the skies pour down [and] drop upon man abundantly.
28空はこれを降らせて、人の上に豊かに注ぐ。
29But can any understand the spreadings of the clouds, [or] the crashing of his pavilion?
29だれか雲の広がるわけと、その幕屋のとどろくわけとを悟ることができようか。
30Lo, he spreadeth his light around him, and covereth the bottom of the sea.
30見よ、彼はその光をおのれのまわりにひろげ、また海の底をおおわれる。
31For with them he judgeth the peoples; he giveth food in abundance.
31彼はこれらをもって民をさばき、食物を豊かに賜い、
32[His] hands he covereth with lightning, and commandeth it where it is to strike.
32いなずまをもってもろ手を包み、これに命じて敵を打たせられる。そのとどろきは、悪にむかって怒りに燃える彼を現す。
33His thundering declareth concerning him; the cattle even, concerning its coming.
33そのとどろきは、悪にむかって怒りに燃える彼を現す。
