¹Aye, my heart trembleth at this also, and leapeth up out of its place:

¹これがためにわが心もまたわななき、その所からとび離れる。

²Hear attentively the roar of his voice, and the murmur going forth from his mouth.

²聞け、神の声のとどろきを、またその口から出るささやきを。

³He sendeth it forth under the whole heaven, and his lightning unto the ends of the earth.

³彼はこれを天が下に放ち、その光を地のすみずみまで至らせられる。

⁴After it a voice roareth: he thundereth with the voice of his excellency, and holdeth not back the flashes when his voice is heard.

⁴その後、声とどろき、彼はそのいかめしい声をもって鳴り渡られる。その声の聞える時、彼はいなずまを引きとめられない。

⁵ùGod thundereth marvellously with his voice, doing great things which we do not comprehend.

⁵神はその驚くべき声をもって鳴り渡り、われわれの悟りえない大いなる事を行われる。

⁶For he saith to the snow, Fall on the earth! and to the pouring rain, even the pouring rains of his might.

⁶彼は雪に向かって『地に降れ』と命じ、夕立ちおよび雨に向かって『強く降れ』と命じられる。

⁷He sealeth up the hand of every man; that all men may know his work.

⁷彼はすべての人の手を封じられる。これはすべての人にみわざを知らせるためである。

⁸And the wild beast goeth into its lair, and they remain in their dens.

⁸その時、獣は穴に入り、そのほらにとどまる。

⁹From the chamber [of the south] cometh the whirlwind; and cold from the winds of the north.

⁹つむじ風はそのへやから、寒さは北風から来る。

¹⁰By the breath of ùGod ice is given; and the breadth of the waters is straitened.

¹⁰神のいぶきによって氷が張り、広々とした水は凍る。

¹¹Also with plentiful moisture he loadeth the thick clouds, his light dispels the cloud;

¹¹彼は濃い雲に水気を負わせ、雲はそのいなずまを散らす。

¹²And they are turned every way by his guidance, that they may do whatsoever he commandeth them upon the face of the circuit of the earth,

¹²これは彼の導きによってめぐる。彼の命じるところをことごとく世界のおもてに行うためである。

¹³Whether he cause it to come as a rod, or for his land, or in mercy.

¹³神がこれらをこさせるのは、懲しめのため、あるいはその地のため、あるいはいつくしみのためである。

¹⁴Hearken unto this, Job; stand still and discern the wondrous works of ùGod.

¹⁴ヨブよ、これを聞け、立って神のくすしきみわざを考えよ。

¹⁵Dost thou know how +God hath disposed them, and how he causeth the lightning of his cloud to flash?

¹⁵あなたは知っているか、神がいかにこれらに命じて、その雲の光を輝かされるかを。

¹⁶Dost thou know about the balancings of the clouds, the wondrous works of him that is perfect in knowledge?

¹⁶あなたは知っているか、雲のつりあいと、知識の全き者のくすしきみわざを。

¹⁷How thy garments become warm when he quieteth the earth by the south wind?

¹⁷南風によって地が穏やかになる時、あなたの着物が熱くなることを。

¹⁸Hast thou with him spread out the sky, firm, like a molten mirror?

¹⁸あなたは鋳た鏡のように堅い大空を、彼のように張ることができるか。

¹⁹Teach us what we shall say unto him! We cannot order [our words] by reason of darkness.

¹⁹われわれが彼に言うべき事をわれわれに教えよ、われわれは暗くて、言葉をつらねることはできない。

²⁰Shall it be told him if I would speak? if a man [so] say, surely he shall be swallowed up.

²⁰わたしは語ることがあると彼に告げることができようか、人は滅ぼされることを望むであろうか。

²¹And now [men] see not the light as it gleameth, it is [hidden] in the skies. But the wind passeth by and cleareth them.

²¹光が空に輝いているとき、風過ぎて空を清めると、人々はその光を見ることができない。

²²From the north cometh gold; with +God is terrible majesty.

²²北から黄金のような輝きがでてくる。神には恐るべき威光がある。

²³The Almighty, we cannot find him out: excellent in power, and in judgment, and in abundance of justice, he doth not afflict.

²³全能者は――われわれはこれを見いだすことができない。彼は力と公義とにすぐれ、正義に満ちて、これを曲げることはない。それゆえ、人々は彼を恐れる。彼はみずから賢いと思う者を顧みられない」。

²⁴Men do therefore fear him: he respecteth not any that are wise of heart.

²⁴それゆえ、人々は彼を恐れる。彼はみずから賢いと思う者を顧みられない」。
