¹Hear, ye children, the instruction of a father, and attend to know intelligence;

¹子供らよ、父の教を聞き、悟りを得るために耳を傾けよ。

²for I give you good doctrine: forsake ye not my law.

²わたしは、良い教訓を、あなたがたにさずける。わたしの教を捨ててはならない。

³For I was a son unto my father, tender and an only one in the sight of my mother.

³わたしもわが父には子であり、わが母の目には、ひとりのいとし子であった。

⁴And he taught me, and said unto me, Let thy heart retain my words; keep my commandments and live.

⁴父はわたしを教えて言った、「わたしの言葉を、心に留め、わたしの戒めを守って、命を得よ。

⁵Get wisdom, get intelligence: forget [it] not; neither decline from the words of my mouth.

⁵それを忘れることなく、またわが口の言葉にそむいてはならない、知恵を得よ、悟りを得よ。

⁶Forsake her not, and she shall keep thee; love her, and she shall preserve thee.

⁶知恵を捨てるな、それはあなたを守る。それを愛せよ、それはあなたを保つ。

⁷The beginning of wisdom [is], Get wisdom; and with all thy getting get intelligence.

⁷知恵の初めはこれである、知恵を得よ、あなたが何を得るにしても、悟りを得よ。

⁸Exalt her, and she shall promote thee; she shall bring thee to honour when thou dost embrace her.

⁸それを尊べ、そうすれば、それはあなたを高くあげる、もしそれをいだくならば、それはあなたを尊くする。

⁹She shall give to thy head a garland of grace; a crown of glory will she bestow upon thee.

⁹それはあなたの頭に麗しい飾りを置き、栄えの冠をあなたに与える」。

¹⁰Hear, my son, and receive my sayings, and the years of thy life shall be multiplied.

¹⁰わが子よ、聞け、わたしの言葉をうけいれよ、そうすれば、あなたの命の年は多くなる。

¹¹I will teach thee in the way of wisdom, I will lead thee in paths of uprightness.

¹¹わたしは知恵の道をあなたに教え、正しい道筋にあなたを導いた。

¹²When thou goest, thy steps shall not be straitened; and when thou runnest, thou shalt not stumble.

¹²あなたが歩くとき、その歩みは妨げられず、走る時にも、つまずくことはない。

¹³Take fast hold of instruction, let [her] not go: keep her, for she is thy life.

¹³教訓をかたくとらえて、離してはならない、それを守れ、それはあなたの命である。

¹⁴Enter not into the path of the wicked, and go not in the way of evil [men]:

¹⁴よこしまな者の道に、はいってはならない、悪しき者の道を歩んではならない。

¹⁵avoid it, pass not by it; turn from it, and pass away.

¹⁵それを避けよ、通ってはならない、それを離れて進め。

¹⁶For they sleep not except they have done mischief, and their sleep is taken away unless they have caused [some] to fall.

¹⁶彼らは悪を行わなければ眠ることができず、人をつまずかせなければ、寝ることができず、

¹⁷For they eat the bread of wickedness, and drink the wine of violence.

¹⁷不正のパンを食らい、暴虐の酒を飲むからである。

¹⁸But the path of the righteous is as the shining light, going on and brightening until the day be fully come.

¹⁸正しい者の道は、夜明けの光のようだ、いよいよ輝きを増して真昼となる。

¹⁹The way of the wicked is as darkness: they know not at what they stumble.

¹⁹悪しき人の道は暗やみのようだ、彼らは何につまずくかを知らない。

²⁰My son, attend to my words; incline thine ear unto my sayings.

²⁰わが子よ、わたしの言葉に心をとめ、わたしの語ることに耳を傾けよ。

²¹Let them not depart from thine eyes; keep them in the midst of thy heart.

²¹それを、あなたの目から離さず、あなたの心のうちに守れ。

²²For they are life unto those that find them, and health to all their flesh.

²²それは、これを得る者の命であり、またその全身を健やかにするからである。

²³Keep thy heart more than anything that is guarded; for out of it are the issues of life.

²⁴Put away from thee perverseness of mouth, and corrupt lips put far from thee.

²⁵Let thine eyes look right on, and let thine eyelids look straight before thee.

²⁵あなたの目は、まっすぐに正面を見、あなたのまぶたはあなたの前を、まっすぐに見よ。

²⁶Ponder the path of thy feet, and let all thy ways be well-ordered.

²⁶あなたの足の道に気をつけよ、そうすれば、あなたのすべての道は安全である。右にも左にも迷い出てはならない、あなたの足を悪から離れさせよ。

²⁷Turn not to the right hand nor to the left; remove thy foot from evil.
