¹My son, if thou receivest my words, and layest up my commandments with thee,

¹Ka tapa, ka thute na sana, ka thupiakte nanga na khol khawm leh;

²so that thou incline thine ear unto wisdom [and] thou apply thy heart to understanding;

²Huchia pilna lama na bil na doha, theihsiamna lama na lung na suk leh;

³yea, if thou criest after discernment [and] liftest up thy voice to understanding;

³Ahi, theihkakna na sap a, theihsiamna dinga na aw na suah leh;

⁴if thou seekest her as silver and searchest for her as for hidden treasures:

⁴Dangka banga huai na zona, gou sel banga huai na zon leh;

⁵then shalt thou understand the fear of Jehovah, and find the knowledge of God.

⁵Huchiin Toupa kihtakna na theisiam dinga, Pathian theihna na mu ding hi.

⁶For Jehovah giveth wisdom; out of his mouth [come] knowledge and understanding.

⁶Toupan lah pilna a pe ngala; a kam akipanin theihna leh theihsiamna a hong pai.

⁷He layeth up sound wisdom for the upright; [he] is a shield to them that walk in integrity;

⁷Midika dingin pilna hoih a khol khawma, muanhuainaa omte amaute ading in lum ahi;

⁸guarding the paths of just judgment and keeping the way of his godly ones.

⁹Then shalt thou understand righteousness and judgment and equity: every good path.

⁹Huchiin diktatna leh vaihawmna na theisiam dia, huan, hawmsiamna, ahi, lampi hoih chiteng.

¹⁰When wisdom entereth into thy heart and knowledge is pleasant unto thy soul,

¹⁰Na lungtang sungah pilna a honglut sin ngala, huan na kha adingin theihna a nuam ding hi;

¹¹discretion shall keep thee, understanding shall preserve thee:

¹¹Ngentelnain nang a honveng dia, theihsiamnain nang a honkem ding hi.

¹²To deliver thee from the way of evil, from the man that speaketh froward things;

¹²Gilou lampi akipan honhun khe ding, mi thil hoihlou gente akipan;

¹³[from those] who leave the paths of uprightness, to walk in the ways of darkness;

¹³Tanna lampite mangngilh, khomial lampite a pai ding;

¹⁴who rejoice to do evil, [and] delight in the frowardness of evil;

¹⁴Gilou hih ding kipaka, gilou hoihlouhnaa nuamsa;

¹⁵whose paths are crooked, and who are perverted in their course:

¹⁵A lampite ua kawia, a lampite ua diklou te;

¹⁶To deliver thee from the strange woman, from the stranger who flattereth with her words;

¹⁶Numei lamdang akipan nang honhun ding, mikhualnu a thute toha maitangphatnu akipan mahmahin;

¹⁷who forsaketh the guide of her youth, and forgetteth the covenant of her God;

¹⁷Aman a tuailai lawm a nusia, a Pathian thukhun a mangngilh hi:

¹⁸-- for her house inclineth unto death, and her paths unto the dead;

¹⁸A inn in lah sihna lam a doha, a lampiten misite lam:

¹⁹none that go unto her return again, neither do they attain to the paths of life:

¹⁹Amah kiang hoh kuamah a kik nawn kei ua, kuamahin hinna lampite a pha zou sam kei uhi:

²⁰-- that thou mayest walk in the way of the good, and keep the paths of the righteous.

²¹For the upright shall dwell in the land, and the perfect shall remain in it;
