¹The Proverbs of Solomon. A wise son maketh a glad father; but a foolish son is the grief of his mother.

¹ اینها از سخنان سلیمان است: فرزند عاقل، پدر خود را خوشحال می‌سازد امّا فرزند احمق مادر خویش را غمگین می‌نماید.

²Treasures of wickedness profit nothing; but righteousness delivereth from death.

² ثروتی را که از راههای نادرست به دست آورده باشی، برایت مفید نخواهد بود امّا امانت و درستکاری زندگی تو را از نابودی نجات می‌دهد.

³Jehovah suffereth not the soul of the righteous [man] to famish; but he repelleth the craving of the wicked.

³ خداوند نمی‌گذارد که شخص درستکار گرسنه بماند، ولی خواهش‌های مردم شریر را بر‌آورده نمی‌کند.

⁴He cometh to want that dealeth with a slack hand; but the hand of the diligent maketh rich.

⁴ تنبلی تو را فقیر می‌سازد، امّا کار و کوشش تو را ثروتمند می‌نماید.

⁵He that gathereth in summer is a wise son; he that sleepeth in harvest is a son that causeth shame.

⁵ شخص عاقل هنگام تابستان آذوقه خود را ذخیره می‌کند ولی کسی‌که در موقع درو بخوابد، شرمنده خواهد شد.

⁶Blessings are upon the head of a righteous [man]; but the mouth of the wicked covereth violence.

⁶ شخص نیکوکار برکت خواهد یافت ولی سخنان شخص زورگو، ظلم و شرارت را می‌‌پوشاند.

⁷The memory of the righteous [man] shall be blessed; but the name of the wicked shall rot.

⁷ خاطرهٔ مردم نیک موجب برکت است، امّا مردم شریر خیلی زود فراموش می‌شوند.

⁸The wise in heart receiveth commandments; but a prating fool shall fall.

⁸ شخص عاقل به نصیحت دیگران گوش می‌دهد، امّا احمق پرگو تلف خواهد شد.

⁹He that walketh in integrity walketh securely; but he that perverteth his ways shall be known.

⁹ مردم درستکار در امن و امان خواهند بود، ولی مردم نادرست رسوا خواهند شد.

¹⁰He that winketh with the eye causeth grief, and a prating fool shall fall.

¹⁰ کسی‌که حقیقت را پنهان کند، موجب بدبختی می‌شود، ولی کسی‌که آشکارا انتقاد کند، وسیلهٔ صلح و آرامش می‌گردد.

¹¹The mouth of a righteous [man] is a fountain of life; but the mouth of the wicked covereth violence.

¹¹ سخنان شخص نیک چشمهٔ حیات است. امّا سخنان شخص زورگو، ظلم و شرارت را پنهان می‌کند.

¹²Hatred stirreth up strifes; but love covereth all transgressions.

¹² کینه و نفرت موجب زحمت و دردسر می‌شود، امّا محبّت تقصیرات دیگران را نادیده می‌گیرد.

¹³In the lips of an intelligent [man] wisdom is found; but a rod is for the back of him that is void of understanding.

¹³ مردم فهمیده از روی شعور حرف می‌زنند، ولی مردم نادان باید تنبیه شوند.

¹⁴The wise lay up knowledge; but the mouth of the fool is near destruction.

¹⁴ مردم حکیم همیشه دنبال کسب علم و دانش هستند، امّا سخنان مردم نادان موجب هلاکت است.

¹⁵The rich man's wealth is his strong city; the destruction of the poor is their poverty.

¹⁵ اموال دولتمندان ایشان را محافظت می‌کند، امّا تهی‌دستی فقیران، سبب نابودی آنها می‌گردد.

¹⁶The labour of a righteous [man] [tendeth] to life; the revenue of a wicked [man], to sin.

¹⁶ پاداش نیکوکاری رستگاری و عاقبت شرارت گمراهی است.

¹⁷Keeping instruction is the path to life; but he that forsaketh reproof goeth astray.

¹⁷ آنهایی که به پند و اندرز دیگران گوش می‌دهند، رستگار می‌شوند. امّا کسانی‌که اشتباهات خود را قبول نمی‌کنند، گمراه می‌گردند.

¹⁸He that covereth hatred hath lying lips, and he that sendeth forth a slander is a fool.

¹⁸ کسی‌که کینه و نفرت خود را مخفی می‌کند دروغگو و کسی‌که شایعات بی‌اساس را منتشر می‌کند، احمق است.

¹⁹In the multitude of words there wanteth not transgression; but he that restraineth his lips doeth wisely.

¹⁹ پر حرفی موجب گناه می‌شود، امّا شخص عاقل بیشتر سکوت می‌کند.

²⁰The tongue of the righteous [man] is [as] choice silver; the heart of the wicked is little worth.

²⁰ سخنان شخص نیکو، مانند نقره خالص است، ولی افکار شریران هیچ ارزش ندارد.

²¹The lips of a righteous [man] feed many; but fools die for want of understanding.

²¹ سخنان شخص نیکو به عدّهٔ زیادی منفعت می‌رساند، امّا سخنان احمق موجب نابودی خودش می‌شود.

²²The blessing of Jehovah, it maketh rich, and he addeth no sorrow to it.

²² این برکت خداوند است که تو را ثروتمند می‌سازد و زحمت زیاد نمی‌تواند آن را زیادتر کند.

²³It is as sport to a foolish [man] to do wickedness; but a man of understanding hath wisdom.

²³ لذّت بردن از کارهای بد، کار احمقانه‌ای است. مردم دانا از حکمت لذّت می‌برند.

²⁴The fear of a wicked [man], it shall come upon him; but the desire of the righteous shall be granted.

²⁴ مردم درستکار به آروزهای خود می‌رسند، ولی مردم شریر دچار همان چیزی می‌شوند که از آن وحشت دارند.

²⁵As a whirlwind passeth, so is the wicked no [more]; but the righteous is an everlasting foundation.

²⁵ وقتی توفان بیاید مردم شریر نابود می‌شوند، امّا مردم درستکار همیشه در امان هستند.

²⁶As vinegar to the teeth, and as smoke to the eyes, so is the sluggard to them that send him.

²⁶ هرگز کار خود را به مردم تنبل مسپار، آنها مثل سرکه برای دندان و مانند دود برای چشم زیان‌بخش هستند.

²⁷The fear of Jehovah prolongeth days; but the years of the wicked shall be shortened.

²⁷ خداوند را احترام کن تا عمرت دراز شود. مردم شریر قبل از اینکه موقع مرگشان برسد هلاک می‌شوند.

²⁸The hope of the righteous is joy; but the expectation of the wicked shall perish.

²⁸ امیدهای شخص نیک او را خوشحال می‌سازد، ولی مردم شریر هیچ امیدی ندارند.

²⁹The way of Jehovah is strength to the perfect [man], but destruction to the workers of iniquity.

²⁹ خداوند از مردم درستکار حمایت می‌کند، ولی شریران را نابود می‌سازد.

³⁰The righteous [man] shall never be moved; but the wicked shall not inhabit the land.

³⁰ مردم نیک همیشه در امنیّت به سر می‌برند، امّا مردم شریر بر زمین باقی نخواهند ماند.

³¹The mouth of a righteous [man] putteth forth wisdom; but the froward tongue shall be cut out.

³¹ مردم نیکوکار از روی حکمت صحبت می‌کنند، امّا زبان شریران بریده خواهد شد. مردم نیکوکار با مهربانی صحبت می‌کنند، امّا سخنان شریران همیشه موجب رنجش است.

³²The lips of a righteous [man] know what is acceptable; but the mouth of the wicked is frowardness.
