¹A soft answer turneth away fury; but a grievous word stirreth up anger.

¹ پاسخ ملایم خشم را فرو می‌نشاند، امّا پاسخ سخت، خشم را برمی‌انگیزاند.

²The tongue of the wise useth knowledge aright; but the mouth of the foolish poureth out folly.

² از زبان شخص دانا حکمت می‌چکد، ولی از دهان شخص نادان حماقت بیرون می‌آید.

³The eyes of Jehovah are in every place, beholding the evil and the good.

³ خدا همه‌جا را زیر نظر دارد و ناظر کارهای مردمان نیک و بد می‌باشد.

⁴Gentleness of tongue is a tree of life; but crookedness therein is a breaking of the spirit.

⁴ سخنان خوب حیات می‌بخشند، امّا حرفهای بد باعث دلشکستگی می‌شود.

⁵A fool despiseth his father's instruction; but he that regardeth reproof becometh prudent.

⁵ شخص نادان نصیحت والدین خود را بی‌اهمیّت می‌شمارد، ولی فرزند عاقل تأدیب آنها خود را می‌پذیرد.

⁶In the house of a righteous [man] is much treasure; but in the revenue of a wicked [man] is disturbance.

⁶ خانهٔ شخص صادق از ثروت پُر است، امّا دسترنج مردم بدکار برای آنها تلخکامی به بار می‌آورد.

⁷The lips of the wise disperse knowledge, but not so the heart of the foolish.

⁷ دانش توسط اشخاص دانا منتشر می‌شود نه به وسیلهٔ مردم نادان که در آنها راستی نیست.

⁸The sacrifice of the wicked is an abomination to Jehovah; but the prayer of the upright is his delight.

⁸ خداوند از قربانی‌های مردم بدکار متنفّر است، امّا از دعای درستکاران خشنود می‌گردد.

⁹The way of a wicked [man] is an abomination to Jehovah; but him that pursueth righteousness he loveth.

⁹ خدا از کارهای بدکاران متنفّر است، امّا پیروان راستی را دوست می‌دارد.

¹⁰Grievous correction is for him that forsaketh the path; he that hateth reproof shall die.

¹⁰ کسانی‌که راه راست را ترک کرده‌اند، مجازات سختی در انتظار آنهاست، و اگر نخواهند که تأدیب و اصلاح شوند، خواهند مرد.

¹¹Sheol and destruction are before Jehovah; how much more then the hearts of the children of men!

¹¹ حتّی دنیای مردگان از نظر خدا پنهان نیست، پس آیا انسان می‌تواند افکار خود را از او پنهان کند؟

¹²A scorner loveth not one that reproveth him; he will not go unto the wise.

¹² کسی‌که کارش مسخره کردن است، از نزدیک شدن به اشخاص دانا خودداری می‌کند، زیرا دوست ندارد که سرزنش آنها را بشنود.

¹³A joyful heart maketh a cheerful countenance; but by sorrow of heart the spirit is broken.

¹³ دلِ شاد، چهره را شاداب می‌سازد، امّا دلِ غمگین، روح را افسرده می‌کند.

¹⁴The heart of an intelligent [man] seeketh knowledge; but the mouth of the foolish feedeth on folly.

¹⁴ شخص عاقل تشنهٔ معرفت است، امّا شخص نادان خود را با حماقت سیر می‌کند.

¹⁵All the days of the afflicted are evil; but a cheerful heart is a continual feast.

¹⁵ زندگی برای شخص فقیر سراسر زحمت است، همه‌چیز به نظرش بد می‌آید، امّا اگر دلش شاد باشد، از زندگی لذّت می‌برد.

¹⁶Better is little with the fear of Jehovah than great store and disquietude therewith.

¹⁶ دارایی کم همراه با خداترسی بهتر است از ثروت هنگفتِ با اضطراب.

¹⁷Better is a meal of herbs where love is, than a fatted ox and hatred therewith.

¹⁷ خوردن نان و سبزی در جایی که محبّت هست بهتر است از خوردن کباب در جایی که نفرت وجود دارد.

¹⁸A furious man stirreth up contention; but he that is slow to anger appeaseth strife.

¹⁸ شخص تندخو نزاع برپا می‌کند، ولی شخص صبور دعوا را فرو می‌نشاند.

¹⁹The way of the sluggard is as a hedge of thorns; but the path of the upright is made plain.

¹⁹ راه شخص تنبل با خار پوشیده است، امّا راه آدم درستکار هموار است.

²⁰A wise son maketh a glad father; but a foolish man despiseth his mother.

²⁰ فرزندان دانا پدران خود را خوشحال می‌سازند، امّا فرزندان احمق مادران خود را تحقیر می‌کنند.

²¹Folly is joy to him that is void of sense; but a man of understanding regulateth his walk.

²¹ آدم احمق از کارهای احمقانه لذّت می‌برد، امّا شخص دانا از راه راست منحرف نمی‌شود.

²²Without counsel purposes are disappointed; but in the multitude of counsellors they are established.

²² نقشه‌ای که بدون مشورت کشیده شود، با شکست مواجه می‌گردد؛ امّا مشورت زیاد باعث موفّقیّت می‌شود.

²³A man hath joy by the answer of his mouth; and a word in its season, how good is it!

²³ جواب درست لذّت‌بخش است و سخنی که به جا گفته شود چه نیکوست.

²⁴The path of life is upwards for the wise, that he may depart from Sheol beneath.

²⁴ راه مردم دانا به سوی حیات بالا می‌رود و آنها را از سقوط در دنیای مردگان باز می‌دارد.

²⁵Jehovah plucketh up the house of the proud; but he establisheth the boundary of the widow.

²⁵ خداوند خانهٔ مردم متکبّر را ویران می‌کند، امّا از دارایی بیوه زنان حفاظت می‌نماید.

²⁶The thoughts of the evil [man] are an abomination to Jehovah; but pure words are pleasant.

²⁶ خداوند از نقشه‌های پلید متنفّر است، ولی افکار پاک را می‌پسندد.

²⁷He that is greedy of gain troubleth his own house; but he that hateth gifts shall live.

²⁷ کسی‌که دنبال سود نامشروع می‌رود، به خانوادهٔ خود لطمه می‌زند؛ امّا کسی‌که از رشوه نفرت دارد، زندگی خوبی خواهد داشت.

²⁸The heart of a righteous [man] studieth to answer; but the mouth of the wicked poureth out evil things.

²⁸ آدم خوب پیش از جواب دادن فکر می‌کند، امّا شخص بد زود جواب می‌دهد و مشکلات به بار می‌آورد.

²⁹Jehovah is far from the wicked; but he heareth the prayer of the righteous.

²⁹ خداوند از مردم بدکار دور است، ولی دعای اشخاص نیک را می‌شنود.

³⁰That which enlighteneth the eyes rejoiceth the heart; good tidings make the bones fat.

³⁰ دیدن روی شاد و خندان و شنیدن خبر خوش به انسان خوشی و سلامتی می‌بخشد.

³¹The ear that heareth the reproof of life shall abide among the wise.

³¹ کسی‌که انتقادهای اصلاح کننده را قبول کند، داناست.

³²He that refuseth instruction despiseth his own soul; but he that heareth reproof getteth sense.

³² کسی‌که تأدیب را نپذیرد، خود را حقیر می‌سازد؛ ولی هر که آن را بپذیرد، دانایی کسب می‌کند. خداترسی به انسان حکمت می‌آموزد و فروتنی برای او عزّت و احترام به بار می‌آورد.

³³The fear of Jehovah is the discipline of wisdom, and before honour [goeth] humility.
