¹He that separateth himself seeketh [his] pleasure, he is vehement against all sound wisdom.

¹ آدم خود‌خواه با دیگران معاشرت نمی‌کند و با عقاید درست آنها مخالفت می‌ورزد.

²A fool hath no delight in understanding, but only that his heart may reveal itself.

² شخص احمق برای حکمت ارزش قایل نیست و فقط دوست دارد که خود را دانا نشان بدهد.

³When the wicked cometh, there cometh also contempt, and with ignominy reproach.

³ گناه، ننگ و رسوایی به بار می‌آورد.

⁴The words of a man's mouth are deep waters, [and] the fountain of wisdom is a gushing brook.

⁴ سخنان شخص دانا مانند دریا، عمیق است و مانند چشمه، گوارا.

⁵It is not good to accept the person of the wicked, to wrong the righteous in judgment.

⁵ طرفداری از شخص مجرمی که حقّ بی‌گناهی را پایمال می‌کند، کار درستی نیست.

⁶A fool's lips enter into contention, and his mouth calleth for stripes.

⁶ حرفهای آدم احمق او را به مشاجره و کتک خوردن می‌کشاند.

⁷A fool's mouth is destruction to him, and his lips are a snare to his soul.

⁷ سخنان شخص احمق مانند دامی است که او را به هلاکت می‌کشاند.

⁸The words of a talebearer are as dainty morsels, and they go down into the innermost parts of the belly.

⁸ حرفهای آدم سخن‌چین، مانند لقمه‌های لذیذی است که با لذّت فروبرده می‌شود.

⁹He also who is indolent in his work is brother of the destroyer.

⁹ کسی‌که در کار خود تنبلی می‌کند، مانند یک خرابکار است.

¹⁰The name of Jehovah is a strong tower: the righteous runneth into it, and is safe.

¹⁰ نام خداوند قلعه‌ای است مستحکم که شخص درستکار به آن پناه می‌برد و در امان می‌ماند.

¹¹The rich man's wealth is his strong city, and as a high wall in his own imagination.

¹¹ امّا پناهگاه ثروتمندان، ثروتشان است که گمان می‌کنند آنها را محافظت خواهد کرد.

¹²Before destruction the heart of man is haughty; and before honour [goeth] humility.

¹² تکبّر به سقوط منجر می‌شود و فروتنی به سرفرازی.

¹³He that giveth answer before he heareth, it is folly and shame unto him.

¹³ چقدر زشت و احمقانه است اگر انسان پیش از گوش دادن به سخنی، به آن جواب بدهد.

¹⁴The spirit of a man sustaineth his infirmity; but a broken spirit who can bear?

¹⁴ اگر انسان روحیهٔ قوی داشته باشد، بیماری را تحمّل می‌کند، امّا روحیهٔ شکسته را چه کسی می‌تواند تحمّل کند؟

¹⁵The heart of an intelligent [man] getteth knowledge, and the ear of the wise seeketh knowledge.

¹⁵ اشخاص دانا همیشه مشتاق و آمادهٔ یاد گیری هستند.

¹⁶A man's gift maketh room for him, and bringeth him before great men.

¹⁶ هدیه دادن، راه را برای انسان باز می‌کند و او را به حضور اشخاص مهم می‌رساند.

¹⁷He that is first in his own cause [seemeth] just; but his neighbour cometh and searcheth him.

¹⁷ کسی‌که اول در دادگاه صحبت می‌کند، دلایلش درست به نظر می‌آید، امّا این تا زمانی است که طرف مقابل هنوز دلایل خود را نگفته باشد.

¹⁸The lot causeth contentions to cease, and parteth between the mighty.

¹⁸ قرعه‌کشی، به دعوا خاتمه می‌دهد و مشاجرهٔ بین حریفان زورمند را خاموش می‌سازد.

¹⁹A brother offended is [harder to be won] than a strong city; and contentions are as the bars of a palace.

¹⁹ به دست آوردن دلِ خویشاوندی که رنجیده، سخت‌تر است از تصرّف یک شهر مستحکم. مشاجرهٔ خویشاوندان دیوار جدایی بین آنها ایجاد می‌کند.

²⁰A man's belly is satisfied with the fruit of his mouth; with the increase of his lips is he satisfied.

²⁰ انسان نتیجهٔ حرفهایی را که می‌زند، خواهد دید.

²¹Death and life are in the power of the tongue, and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof.

²¹ حرف زبانت می‌تواند حیات تو را حفظ کند یا آن را برباد دهد، بنابراین نتیجهٔ حرفهای خود را خواهی دید.

²²Whoso hath found a wife hath found a good thing, and hath obtained favour from Jehovah.

²² وقتی مردی همسری پیدا می‌کند، نعمتی را به دست می‌آورد. آن زن برای او برکتی است از جانب خداوند.

²³He that is poor speaketh with supplications, but the rich answereth roughly.

²³ درخواست فقرا با التماس توأم است و جواب ثروتمندان با خشونت. بسیاری از دوستی‌ها پایدار نمی‌مانند، امّا دوستانی هم هستند که از برادر نزدیکترند.

²⁴A man of [many] friends will come to ruin but there is a friend [that] sticketh closer than a brother.

²⁴ بسیاری از دوستی‌ها پایدار نمی‌مانند، امّا دوستانی هم هستند که از برادر نزدیکترند.
