¹My son, forget not my teaching, and let thy heart observe my commandments;

¹ ای فرزند من، هرچه به تو یاد می‌دهم فراموش مکن و آنچه را به تو می‌گویم به‌خاطر بسپار.

²for length of days, and years of life, and peace shall they add to thee.

² تعالیم من، کامیابی و عمر دراز به تو می‌بخشد.

³Let not loving-kindness and truth forsake thee; bind them about thy neck, write them upon the tablet of thy heart:

³ هرگز صداقت و وفاداری را از خود دور مکن، آنها را به گردنت ببند و بر قلبت بنویس.

⁴and thou shalt find favour and good understanding in the sight of God and man.

⁴ اگر چنین کنی، خدا و مردم از تو راضی خواهند شد.

⁵Confide in Jehovah with all thy heart, and lean not unto thine own intelligence;

⁵ با دل و جان بر خداوند توکّل کن. بر عقل خود تکیه مکن.

⁶in all thy ways acknowledge him, and he will make plain thy paths.

⁶ در تمام کارهایت خداوند را به‌خاطر داشته‌ باش. او راه راست را به تو نشان خواهد داد.

⁷Be not wise in thine own eyes; fear Jehovah, and depart from evil:

⁷ خیال نکن که خیلی عاقل هستی. از خدا بترس و از بدی دوری کن.

⁸it shall be health for thy navel, and moisture for thy bones.

⁸ اگر چنین کنی، مانند داروی شفا بخش، به تو سلامتی و قوّت می‌بخشد.

⁹Honour Jehovah with thy substance, and with the first-fruits of all thine increase;

⁹ خداوند را احترام نما و از دارایی خود و از نوبر محصول زمین خود قسمتی را به او تقدیم کن.

¹⁰so shall thy barns be filled with plenty, and thy vats shall overflow with new wine.

¹⁰ اگر چنین کنی انبارهایت پر از نعمت و خمره‌هایت پر از شیرهٔ انگور خواهد شد.

¹¹My son, despise not the instruction of Jehovah, neither be weary of his chastisement;

¹¹ ای فرزند من وقتی خداوند تو را تنبیه می‌کند، خوب توجّه کن و وقتی تو را سرزنش می‌کند، دلگیر نشو.

¹²for whom Jehovah loveth he chasteneth, even as a father the son in whom he delighteth.

¹² چون خداوند کسانی را که دوست دارد، تربیت می‌نماید؛ مانند والدینی که فرزند عزیز خود را تربیت می‌کنند.

¹³Blessed is the man that findeth wisdom, and the man that getteth understanding.

¹³ خوشا به حال کسی‌که حکمت و دانایی پیدا می‌کند.

¹⁴For the gain thereof is better than the gain of silver, and her revenue than fine gold.

¹⁴ زیرا ارزش آن از طلا و نقره بیشتر است.

¹⁵She is more precious than rubies; and all the things thou canst desire are not equal unto her.

¹⁵ حکمت از جواهرات گرانبهاتر و از هرچه آرزو کنی باارزشتر است.

¹⁶Length of days is in her right hand; in her left hand riches and honour.

¹⁶ حکمت به تو عمر دراز و ثروت و احترام می‌بخشد.

¹⁷Her ways are ways of pleasantness, and all her paths are peace.

¹⁷ حکمت در زندگی تو را کامیاب کرده و به راه امنیّت و شادمانی هدایت می‌کند.

¹⁸She is a tree of life to them that lay hold upon her; and happy is he that retaineth her.

¹⁸ کسانی‌که حکیم می‌شوند، شادمان خواهند بود. جان و حیات را خدا می‌بخشد.

¹⁹Jehovah by wisdom founded the earth; by understanding he established the heavens.

¹⁹ خداوند زمین با از روی حکمت خود آفرید، و آسمانها را با دانایی خود بنیان نهاد.

²⁰By his knowledge the deeps were broken up, and the skies drop down the dew.

²⁰ عقل او رودخانه‌ها را روان نمود، و باران را از ابرها بر زمین بارانید.

²¹My son, let them not depart from thine eyes; keep sound wisdom and discretion:

²¹ ای فرزند من، دانایی و فهم خود را حفظ کن و نگذار از تو دور شوند.

²²so shall they be life unto thy soul, and grace unto thy neck.

²² اینها به تو زندگی می‌بخشند و آن را پر از خوشی می‌کنند.

²³Then shalt thou walk in thy way securely, and thy foot shall not stumble;

²³ آنگاه به سلامتی، راه خود را طی می‌‌کنی و شکست نمی‌خوری.

²⁴when thou liest down, thou shalt not be afraid, but thou shalt lie down and thy sleep shall be sweet.

²⁴ بدون ترس می‌خوابی و تمام شب به راحتی استراحت می‌‌کنی.

²⁵Be not afraid of sudden fear, neither of the destruction of the wicked, when it cometh;

²⁵ از بلاهای ناگهانی -‌مثل آنچه که توفان بر سر شریران می‌آورد- نخواهی ترسید.

²⁶for Jehovah shall be thy confidence, and he will keep thy foot from being taken.

²⁶ خداوند از تو محافظت می‌کند و نمی‌گذارد که در دام گرفتار شوی.

²⁷Withhold not good from them to whom it is due, when it is in the power of thy hand to do it.

²⁷ هرگاه که از دستت برمی‌آید، از احسان کردن به محتاجان کوتاهی مکن.

²⁸Say not unto thy neighbour, Go, and come again, and to-morrow I will give, when thou hast it by thee.

²⁸ اگر می‌توانی اکنون به همسایه‌ات کمک کنی، به او نگو برو و فردا بیا.

²⁹Devise not evil against thy neighbour, seeing he dwelleth securely by thee.

²⁹ در مورد همسایه‌ات که نزدیک تو زندگی می‌کند و به تو اعتماد دارد، قصد بدی مکن.

³⁰Strive not with a man without cause, if he have done thee no harm.

³⁰ با کسی‌که به تو بدی نکرده است، بی‌سبب جدل مکن.

³¹Envy not the man of violence, and choose none of his ways.

³¹ به مردمان زورگو حسادت نورز و از آنها تقلید مکن.

³²For the perverse is an abomination to Jehovah; but his secret is with the upright.

³² چون خداوند از مردم ظالم متنفّر است، امّا درستکاران از اسرار الهی آگاهند.

³³The curse of Jehovah is in the house of the wicked; but he blesseth the habitation of the righteous.

³³ لعنت خداوند بر خانهٔ شریران است امّا خانهٔ عادلان را برکت می‌دهد.

³⁴He indeed scorneth the scorners; but he giveth grace unto the lowly.

³⁴ خداوند به مردم از خود راضی توجّهی ندارد امّا فروتنان را سرافراز می‌نماید. خردمندان عزّت و جلال به ‌دست می‌آورند، امّا نادانان رسوایی خود را بیشتر خواهند کرد.

³⁵The wise shall inherit glory; but shame shall be the promotion of the foolish.

³⁵ خردمندان عزّت و جلال به ‌دست می‌آورند، امّا نادانان رسوایی خود را بیشتر خواهند کرد.
