¹Hear, ye children, the instruction of a father, and attend to know intelligence;

¹ ای فرزندان من، به آنچه من، پدرتان به شما تعلیم می‌دهم گوش کنید. توجّه کنید تا معرفت پیدا کنید.

²for I give you good doctrine: forsake ye not my law.

² زیرا چیزهای خوبی به شما یاد می‌دهم، پس آنها را فراموش نکنید.

³For I was a son unto my father, tender and an only one in the sight of my mother.

³ وقتی در خانهٔ والدین خود پسر بچّه کوچکی بودم و تنها فرزند مادرم،

⁴And he taught me, and said unto me, Let thy heart retain my words; keep my commandments and live.

⁴ پدرم مرا تعلیم داده می‌گفت: «سخنان مرا با دل و جان بشنو و دستورات مرا انجام بده تا رستگار شوی.

⁵Get wisdom, get intelligence: forget [it] not; neither decline from the words of my mouth.

⁵ به دنبال کسب حکمت برو و عقل و بینش پیدا کن. آنچه را می‌گویم فراموش مکن و از آنها سرپیچی منما.

⁶Forsake her not, and she shall keep thee; love her, and she shall preserve thee.

⁶ خردمندی را ترک مکن تا تو را محافظت نماید. آن را دوست بدار تا از تو مواظبت کند.

⁷The beginning of wisdom [is], Get wisdom; and with all thy getting get intelligence.

⁷ تحصیل حکمت از هر کاری ارزنده‌تر است، پس علاوه بر همهٔ چیزهایی که به‌‌ دست می‌آوری، بینش را هم بیاموز.

⁸Exalt her, and she shall promote thee; she shall bring thee to honour when thou dost embrace her.

⁸ حکمت را دوست بدار تا تو را بزرگ و محترم سازد. آن را با اشتیاق طلب نما تا به تو عزّت و شکوه ببخشد.

⁹She shall give to thy head a garland of grace; a crown of glory will she bestow upon thee.

⁹ حکمت برای تو تاج افتخار خواهد بود.»

¹⁰Hear, my son, and receive my sayings, and the years of thy life shall be multiplied.

¹⁰ ای فرزند من، به آنچه می‌گویم خوب گوش کن و آن را جدّی بگیر تا عمری طولانی داشته باشی.

¹¹I will teach thee in the way of wisdom, I will lead thee in paths of uprightness.

¹¹ حکمت را به تو آموختم و راه راست را به تو نشان دادم.

¹²When thou goest, thy steps shall not be straitened; and when thou runnest, thou shalt not stumble.

¹² پس، در سفر زندگی خسته نخواهی شد و اگر بدوی، به زمین نخواهی خورد.

¹³Take fast hold of instruction, let [her] not go: keep her, for she is thy life.

¹³ آنچه را که یاد گرفته‌ای، پیوسته به‌خاطر داشته‌ باش. آنها را فراموش مکن، چون آنها زندگی تو را می‌سازند.

¹⁴Enter not into the path of the wicked, and go not in the way of evil [men]:

¹⁴ از مردم شریر پیروی مکن و از راه مردمان ظالم دوری کن.

¹⁵avoid it, pass not by it; turn from it, and pass away.

¹⁵ کارهای آنها را انجام نده، از آنها دوری نما و راه خود را ادامه بده.

¹⁶For they sleep not except they have done mischief, and their sleep is taken away unless they have caused [some] to fall.

¹⁶ آنها تا کار خلافی نکرده باشند نمی‌خوابند و تا به کسی صدمه نزده باشند، آرام نمی‌گیرند.

¹⁷For they eat the bread of wickedness, and drink the wine of violence.

¹⁷ چون ظلم و شرارت برای آنها مثل نان و آبی است که می‌خورند و می‌‌نوشند.

¹⁸But the path of the righteous is as the shining light, going on and brightening until the day be fully come.

¹⁸ راه مردم نیکوکار مانند سپیده‌دَم است که هر لحظه روشنایی آن بیشتر می‌شود تا روز برسد.

¹⁹The way of the wicked is as darkness: they know not at what they stumble.

¹⁹ امّا راه مردم شریر مثل شب، تاریک است. آنها به زمین می‌خورند امّا علّت آن را نمی‌دانند.

²⁰My son, attend to my words; incline thine ear unto my sayings.

²⁰ ای فرزند من، به سخنان من گوش بده و به آنچه می‌گویم توجّه داشته باش.

²¹Let them not depart from thine eyes; keep them in the midst of thy heart.

²¹ آنها را در قلب خود حفظ کن و هرگز از یاد مبر.

²²For they are life unto those that find them, and health to all their flesh.

²² کسی‌که آنها را بفهمد دارای سلامتی و زندگی بهتری خواهد شد.

²³Keep thy heart more than anything that is guarded; for out of it are the issues of life.

²³ توجّه داشته باش که چطور فکر می‌‌کنی، زیرا افکار تو سرچشمهٔ زندگی توست.

²⁴Put away from thee perverseness of mouth, and corrupt lips put far from thee.

²⁴ سخنان دروغ و بیهوده را از دهان خود دور کن

²⁵Let thine eyes look right on, and let thine eyelids look straight before thee.

²⁵ با جرأت و اطمینان به جلو نگاه کن و سرافکنده مباش.

²⁶Ponder the path of thy feet, and let all thy ways be well-ordered.

²⁶ برای هر کاری که می‌‌کنی، خوب نقشه بکش تا کارهایت به خوبی انجام شود. حتّی یک قدم از راه راست منحرف مشو و از بدی دوری نما.

²⁷Turn not to the right hand nor to the left; remove thy foot from evil.

²⁷ حتّی یک قدم از راه راست منحرف مشو و از بدی دوری نما.
