¹And Job answered and said,

¹A Job odpovedal a riekol:

²Even to-day is my complaint bitter: my stroke is heavier than my groaning.

²Ešte i dnes bude moje úpenie spúrou! Môj údel strádania je ťažší nad moje vzdychanie.

³Oh that I knew where I might find him, that I might come to his seat!

³Oj, aby som vedel, kde by som ho našiel! Išiel by som až pred jeho prestol.

⁴I would order the cause before him, and fill my mouth with arguments;

⁴Predložil by som pred neho súd a svoje ústa by som naplnil dôkazmi.

⁵I would know the words he would answer me, and understand what he would say unto me.

⁵Chcel by som zvedieť slová, ktorými by mi odpovedal, a porozumieť tomu, čo by mi riekol.

⁶Would he plead against me with [his] great power? Nay; but he would give heed unto me.

⁶Či by sa pravotil so mnou vo svojej veľkej sile? Nie to, ale by ma pozorne vypočul.

⁷There would an upright man reason with him; and I should be delivered for ever from my judge.

⁷Tam by sa pravotil s ním priamy človek spravedlivý, a navždy by som uniknul svojmu sudcovi.

⁸Lo, I go forward, but he is not there; and backward, but I do not perceive him;

⁸Ale hľa, keď pojdem napred, neni ho, a keď nazad, nespozorujem ho.

⁹On the left hand, where he doth work, but I behold [him] not; he hideth himself on the right hand, and I see [him] not.

⁹naľavo, ak robí niečo, neuvidím ho; ak zahne napravo, neuzriem ho.

¹⁰But he knoweth the way that I take; he trieth me, I shall come forth as gold.

¹⁰Lebo zná, jaká je cesta u mňa; keď ma bude zkúšať, vyjdem ako zlato.

¹¹My foot hath held to his steps; his way have I kept, and not turned aside.

¹¹Moja noha sa držala jeho kroku; ostríhal som jeho cestu a neodchýlil som sa

¹²Neither have I gone back from the commandment of his lips; I have laid up the words of his mouth more than the purpose of my own heart.

¹²ani som neuhnul od prikázania jeho rtov; nad svoj stanovený diel pokrmu som schoval reči jeho úst.

¹³But he is in one [mind], and who can turn him? And what his soul desireth, that will he do.

¹³Ale keď on trvá na jednom, ktože ho odvráti? A keď si zažiada niečo jeho duša, aj to učiní.

¹⁴For he will perform [what] is appointed for me; and many such things are with him.

¹⁴A istotne vykoná i to, čo ustanovil o mne. A podobných vecí je mnoho pri ňom.

¹⁵Therefore am I troubled at his presence; I consider, and I am afraid of him.

¹⁵Preto sa desím jeho tvári, keď premýšľam o tom, strachujem sa pred ním.

¹⁶For ùGod hath made my heart soft, and the Almighty troubleth me;

¹⁶A silný Bôh zmalátnil moje srdce, a Všemohúci ma predesil.

¹⁷Because I was not cut off before the darkness, neither hath he hidden the gloom from me.

¹⁷Oj, že nie som zničený od tmy! A bol by tak ukryl predo mnou mrákotu.
