¹Aux cxu vi ne scias, fratoj (cxar mi parolas al konantoj de la legxo), ke la legxo regas la homon tiel longe, kiel li vivas?

¹Or don’t you know, brothers The word for “brothers” here and where context allows may also be correctly translated “brothers and sisters” or “siblings.” (for I speak to men who know the law), that the law has dominion over a man for as long as he lives?

²CXar la edzinigita virino estas legxe alligita al sia edzo dum lia vivo; sed se la edzo mortas, sxi liberigxas el la legxo de la edzo.

²For the woman that has a husband is bound by law to the husband while he lives, but if the husband dies, she is discharged from the law of the husband.

³Se do, dum la edzo vivas, sxi kunigxas kun alia viro, sxi estos nomata adultulino; sed se la edzo mortis, sxi estas libera de la legxo, kaj ne estas adultulino, kvankam kunigxinte kun alia viro.

³So then if, while the husband lives, she is joined to another man, she would be called an adulteress. But if the husband dies, she is free from the law, so that she is no adulteress, though she is joined to another man.

⁴Tiel, miaj fratoj, vi same mortis al la legxo per la korpo de Kristo, por kunigxi kun alia, nome kun tiu, kiu levigxis el la mortintoj, por ke ni donu frukton al Dio.

⁴Therefore, my brothers, you also were made dead to the law through the body of Christ, that you would be joined to another, to him who was raised from the dead, that we might bring forth fruit to God.

⁵CXar dum ni estis en karno, la lauxpekaj pasioj, kiuj estis per la legxo, energiis en niaj membroj, por doni frukton al morto.

⁵For when we were in the flesh, the sinful passions which were through the law, worked in our members to bring forth fruit to death.

⁶Sed ni jam liberigxis el la legxo, mortinte rilate tion, en kio ni estis tenataj, por ke ni servu en noveco de spirito, kaj ne en malnoveco de litero.

⁶But now we have been discharged from the law, having died to that in which we were held; so that we serve in newness of the spirit, and not in oldness of the letter.

⁷Kion do ni diru? CXu la legxo estas peko? Nepre ne! Tamen mi ne konus pekon, krom per la legxo; cxar mi ne konus deziron, se la legxo ne dirus:Ne deziru;

⁷What shall we say then? Is the law sin? May it never be! However, I wouldn’t have known sin, except through the law. For I wouldn’t have known coveting, unless the law had said, “You shall not covet.” Exodus 20:17; Deuteronomy 5:21

⁸sed la peko, trovante pretekston, estigis en mi per la ordono cxian deziremon, cxar ekster legxo la peko estas senviva.

⁸But sin, finding occasion through the commandment, produced in me all kinds of coveting. For apart from the law, sin is dead.

⁹Kaj iam mi vivadis ekster la legxo; sed kiam la ordono venis, la peko vivigxis, kaj mi mortis;

⁹I was alive apart from the law once, but when the commandment came, sin revived, and I died.

¹⁰kaj tiun ordonon, kiu estas por vivo, mi trovis por morto;

¹⁰The commandment, which was for life, this I found to be for death;

¹¹cxar la peko, trovinte pretekston, per la ordono min trompis, kaj per gxi min mortigis.

¹¹for sin, finding occasion through the commandment, deceived me, and through it killed me.

¹²Tiel la legxo estas sankta, kaj la ordono estas sankta kaj justa kaj bona.

¹²Therefore the law indeed is holy, and the commandment holy, and righteous, and good.

¹³CXu do tio, kio estas bona, farigxis morto por mi? Nepre ne! Sed la peko, por ke gxi montrigxu peko, estigante morton en mi per la bono-por ke per la ordono la peko farigxu treege peka.

¹³Did then that which is good become death to me? May it never be! But sin, that it might be shown to be sin, by working death to me through that which is good; that through the commandment sin might become exceeding sinful.

¹⁴CXar ni scias, ke la legxo estas spirita; sed mi estas karna, vendite sub pekon.

¹⁴For we know that the law is spiritual, but I am fleshly, sold under sin.

¹⁵CXar mi ne havas certecon pri tio, kion mi faradas; cxar mi ne agas laux tio, kion mi volas; sed kion mi malamas, tion mi faras.

¹⁵For I don’t know what I am doing. For I don’t practice what I desire to do; but what I hate, that I do.

¹⁶Sed se mi faras tion, kion mi ne volas fari, mi konsentas al la legxo, ke gxi estas bona.

¹⁶But if what I don’t desire, that I do, I consent to the law that it is good.

¹⁷La faranto do estas jam ne mi, sed la peko, logxanta en mi.

¹⁷So now it is no more I that do it, but sin which dwells in me.

¹⁸CXar mi scias, ke en mi (tio estas, en mia karno) bono ne logxas; cxar cxe mi estas la volo, sed ne la elfaro de la bono.

¹⁸For I know that in me, that is, in my flesh, dwells no good thing. For desire is present with me, but I don’t find it doing that which is good.

¹⁹CXar la bonon, kiun mi volas fari, mi ne faras; sed la malbonon, kiun mi ne volas fari, mi faradas.

¹⁹For the good which I desire, I don’t do; but the evil which I don’t desire, that I practice.

²⁰Sed se mi faras tion, kion mi ne volas fari, faras gxin jam ne mi, sed la peko, logxanta en mi.

²⁰But if what I don’t desire, that I do, it is no more I that do it, but sin which dwells in me.

²¹Mi do trovas legxon, ke kiam mi volas fari bonon, la malbono estas cxe mi.

²¹I find then the law, that, to me, while I desire to do good, evil is present.

²²CXar mi gxojas en la legxo de Dio laux la interna homo;

²²For I delight in God’s law after the inward man,

²³sed mi vidas alian legxon en miaj membroj, militantan kontraux la legxo de mia menso, kaj forkaptantan min sub la legxon de la peko, kiu estas en miaj membroj.

²³but I see a different law in my members, warring against the law of my mind, and bringing me into captivity under the law of sin which is in my members.

²⁴Ho ve, mi malfelicxulo! kiu min liberigos el la korpo de cxi tiu morto?

²⁴What a wretched man I am! Who will deliver me out of the body of this death?

²⁵Danko estu al Dio, per Jesuo Kristo, nia Sinjoro. Per la menso do mi mem servas al la legxo de Dio, sed per la karno al la legxo de peko.

²⁵I thank God through Jesus Christ, our Lord! So then with the mind, I myself serve God’s law, but with the flesh, the sin’s law.
