¹Siis rääkis Iiob ja ütles:

¹And Job answered and said,

²'Mu kaebus on tänagi mässuline. Minu käsi lasub raskesti mu ohkamise kohal.

²Even to-day is my complaint bitter: my stroke is heavier than my groaning.

³Oh, kui ma teaksin, kuidas ma teda leian, kuidas ma saaksin minna tema aujärje ette!

³Oh that I knew where I might find him, that I might come to his seat!

⁴Siis ma paneksin oma kohtuasja tema ette ja täidaksin oma suu vastulausetega.

⁴I would order the cause before him, and fill my mouth with arguments;

⁵Ma tahaksin teada sõnu, millega ta mulle vastab, ja mõista, mis tal mulle on öelda.

⁵I would know the words he would answer me, and understand what he would say unto me.

⁶Kas ta oma kõikvõimsuses peaks minuga vaidlema? Ei, hea, kui ta mind tähelegi paneb.

⁶Would he plead against me with [his] great power? Nay; but he would give heed unto me.

⁷Siis võiks õiglane temaga arutada ja ma pääseksin oma kohtumõistjast igaveseks.

⁷There would an upright man reason with him; and I should be delivered for ever from my judge.

⁸Vaata, kui ma lähen itta, siis ei ole teda seal; või läände, siis ma teda ei märka.

⁸Lo, I go forward, but he is not there; and backward, but I do not perceive him;

⁹Kui ta on põhjas tegutsemas, siis ma teda ei silma; kui ta pöörab lõunasse, siis ma teda ei näe.

⁹On the left hand, where he doth work, but I behold [him] not; he hideth himself on the right hand, and I see [him] not.

¹⁰Kuid tema tunneb teed, mida ma käin. Katsub ta mind läbi - ma tulen sellest välja nagu kuld.

¹⁰But he knoweth the way that I take; he trieth me, I shall come forth as gold.

¹¹Mu jalg on püsinud tema jälgedes, ma olen pidanud tema teed ega ole kõrvale läinud.

¹¹My foot hath held to his steps; his way have I kept, and not turned aside.

¹²Tema huulte käskudest ei ole ma taganenud, ma olen oma põues talletanud sõnad tema suust.

¹²Neither have I gone back from the commandment of his lips; I have laid up the words of his mouth more than the purpose of my own heart.

¹³Aga tema on ainus ja kes saaks teda keelata? Mida tema hing ihaldab, seda ta ka teeb.

¹³But he is in one [mind], and who can turn him? And what his soul desireth, that will he do.

¹⁴Sest ta viib täide, mis mulle on määratud, ja seesugust on tal palju.

¹⁴For he will perform [what] is appointed for me; and many such things are with him.

¹⁵Seepärast ma tunnen hirmu tema palge ees, ja kui ma järele mõtlen, siis ma kardan teda.

¹⁵Therefore am I troubled at his presence; I consider, and I am afraid of him.

¹⁶Jumal on teinud araks mu südame ja Kõigevägevam on see, kes mind hirmutab.

¹⁶For ùGod hath made my heart soft, and the Almighty troubleth me;

¹⁷Kas ma pole hävinud pimeduse pärast, ja pilkane pimedus katab mu palet?

¹⁷Because I was not cut off before the darkness, neither hath he hidden the gloom from me.
