1[] Καλεσον τωρα, εαν τις σοι αποκριθη; και προς τινα των αγιων θελεις αποβλεψει;
1Call, I pray thee! Is there any that answereth thee? and to which of the holy ones wilt thou turn?
2Διοτι η οργη φονευει τον αφρονα, και η αγανακτησις θανατονει τον μωρον.
2For vexation killeth the foolish man, and envy slayeth the simple.
3Εγω ειδον τον αφρονα ριζουμενον· αλλ' ευθυς προειπα κατηραμενην την κατοικιαν αυτου.
3I myself saw the foolish taking root, but suddenly I cursed his habitation.
4Οι υιοι αυτου ειναι μακραν απο της σωτηριας, και καταπιεζονται εμπροσθεν της πυλης, και ουδεις ο ελευθερων·
4His children are far from safety, and they are crushed in the gate, and there is no deliverer:
5των οποιων τον θερισμον κατατρωγει ο πεινων, και αρπαζει αυτον εκ των ακανθων και την περιουσιαν αυτων καταπινει ο διψων.
5Whose harvest the hungry eateth up, and taketh even out of the thorns; and the snare gapeth for his substance.
6[] Διοτι εκ του χωματος δεν εξερχεται η θλιψις, ουδε η λυπη βλαστανει εκ της γης·
6For evil cometh not forth from the dust, neither doth trouble spring out of the ground;
7αλλ' ο ανθρωπος γενναται δια την λυπην, και οι νεοσσοι των αετων δια να πετωσιν υψηλα.
7For man is born to trouble, as the sparks fly upwards.
8Αλλ' εγω τον Θεον θελω επικαλεσθη, και εν τω Θεω θελω εναποθεσει την υποθεσιν μου·
8But as for me I will seek unto ùGod, and unto God commit my cause;
9οστις καμνει μεγαλεια ανεξιχνιαστα, θαυμασια αναριθμητα·
9Who doeth great things and unsearchable, marvellous things without number;
10οστις διδει βροχην επι το προσωπον της γης, και πεμπει υδατα επι το προσωπον των αγρων·
10Who giveth rain on the face of the earth, and sendeth waters on the face of the fields;
11οστις υψονει τους ταπεινους, και ανεγειρει εις σωτηριαν τους τεθλιμμενους·
11Setting up on high those that are low; and mourners are exalted to prosperity.
12οστις διασκεδαζει τας βουλας των πανουργων, και δεν δυνανται αι χειρες αυτων να εκτελεσωσι την επιχειρησιν αυτων·
12He disappointeth the devices of the crafty, and their hands carry not out the enterprise.
13οστις συλλαμβανει τους σοφους εν τη πανουργια αυτων· και η βουλη των δολιων ανατρεπεται·
13He taketh the wise in their own craftiness; and the counsel of the wily is carried headlong:
14την ημεραν απαντωσι σκοτος, και εν μεσημβρια ψηλαφωσι καθως εν νυκτι.
14They meet with darkness in a the daytime, and grope at midday as in the night.
15Τον πτωχον ομως λυτρονει εκ της ρομφαιας, εκ του στοματος αυτων και εκ της χειρος του ισχυρου.
15And he saveth the needy from the sword, from their mouth, and from the hand of the mighty.
16Και ο πτωχος εχει ελπιδα, της δε ανομιας το στομα εμφραττεται.
16So the poor hath what he hopeth for, and unrighteousness stoppeth her mouth.
17[] Ιδου, μακαριος ο ανθρωπος, τον οποιον ελεγχει ο Θεος· δια τουτο μη καταφρονει την παιδειαν του Παντοδυναμου·
17Behold, happy is the man whom +God correcteth; therefore despise not the chastening of the Almighty.
18διοτι αυτος πληγονει και επιδενει· κτυπα, και αι χειρες αυτου ιατρευουσιν.
18For he maketh sore, and bindeth up; he woundeth, and his hands make whole.
19Εν εξ θλιψεσι θελει σε ελευθερωσει· και εν τη εβδομη δεν θελει σε εγγισει κακον.
19He will deliver thee in six troubles, and in seven there shall no evil touch thee.
20Εν τη πεινη θελει σε λυτρωσει εκ θανατου· και εν πολεμω εκ χειρος ρομφαιας.
20In famine he will redeem thee from death, and in war from the power of the sword.
21Απο μαστιγος γλωσσης θελεις εισθαι πεφυλαγμενος· και δεν θελεις φοβηθη απο του επερχομενου ολεθρου.
21Thou shalt be hidden from the scourge of the tongue; and thou shalt not be afraid of destruction when it cometh.
22Τον ολεθρον και την πειναν θελεις καταγελα· και δεν θελεις φοβηθη απο των θηριων της γης.
22At destruction and famine thou shalt laugh, and of the beasts of the earth thou shalt not be afraid.
23Διοτι θελεις εχει συμμαχιαν μετα των λιθων της πεδιαδος· και τα θηρια του αγρου θελουσιν ειρηνευει μετα σου.
23For thou shalt be in league with the stones of the field, and the beasts of the field shall be at peace with thee.
24Και θελεις γνωρισει οτι ειρηνη ειναι εν τη σκηνη σου, και θελεις επισκεφθη την κατοικιαν σου, και δεν θελει σοι λειπει ουδεν.
24And thou shalt know that thy tent is in peace; and thou wilt survey thy fold, and miss nothing.
25Και θελεις γνωρισει οτι ειναι πολυ το σπερμα σου, και οι εκγονοι σου ως η βοτανη της γης.
25And thou shalt know that thy seed is numerous, and thine offspring as the herb of the earth.
26Θελεις ελθει εις τον ταφον εν βαθει γηρατι, καθως συσσωρευεται η θημωνια του σιτου εν τω καιρω αυτης.
26Thou shalt come to the grave in a ripe age, as a shock of corn is brought in in its season.
27Ιδου, τουτο εξιχνιασαμεν, ουτως εχει· ακουσον αυτο και γνωρισον εν σεαυτω.
27Behold this, we have searched it out, so it is; hear it, and know thou it for thyself.
