1[] Οστις αγαπα παιδειαν, αγαπα γνωσιν· αλλ' οστις μισει ελεγχον, ειναι αφρων.
1Whoso loveth discipline loveth knowledge, but he that hateth reproof is brutish.
2[] Ο καλος ευρισκει χαριν παρα Κυριου· τον δε μηχανευομενον κακα θελει καταδικασει.
2A good [man] obtaineth favour of Jehovah; but a man of mischievous devices will he condemn.
3[] Δεν θελει στερεωθη ανθρωπος δια της ανομιας· η ριζα δε των δικαιων θελει μενει ασαλευτος.
3A man shall not be established by wickedness; but the root of the righteous shall not be moved.
4[] Η εναρετος γυνη ειναι στεφανος εις τον ανδρα αυτης· η δε προξενουσα αισχυνην ειναι ως σαπρια εις τα οστα αυτου.
4A woman of worth is a crown to her husband; but she that maketh ashamed is as rottenness in his bones.
5[] Οι λογισμοι των δικαιων ειναι ευθυτης· αι δε βουλαι των ασεβων δολος.
5The thoughts of the righteous are right; the counsels of the wicked are deceit.
6[] Οι λογοι των ασεβων ενεδρευουσιν αιμα· το δε στομα των ευθεων θελει ελευθερωσει αυτους.
6The words of the wicked are a lying-in-wait for blood; but the mouth of the upright shall deliver them.
7[] Οι ασεβεις καταστρεφονται και δεν υπαρχουσιν· ο οικος δε των δικαιων θελει διαμενει.
7Overthrow the wicked, and they are no [more]; but the house of the righteous shall stand.
8[] Ο ανθρωπος εγκωμιαζεται κατα την συνεσιν αυτου· ο δε διεστραμμενος την καρδιαν θελει εισθαι εις καταφρονησιν.
8A man is commended according to his wisdom; but he that is of a perverted heart shall be despised.
9[] Καλητερος ο ανθρωπος ο μη τιμωμενος και επαρκων εις εαυτον, παρα ο κενοδοξων και στερουμενος αρτου.
9Better is he that is lightly esteemed, and hath a servant, than he that honoureth himself, and lacketh bread.
10[] Ο δικαιος επιμελειται την ζωην του κτηνους αυτου· τα δε σπλαγχνα των ασεβων ειναι ανελεημονα.
10A righteous man is concerned for the life of his beast; but the tender mercies of the wicked are cruel.
11[] Ο εργαζομενος την γην αυτου θελει χορτασθη αρτον· ο δε ακολουθων τους ματαιοφρονας ειναι ενδεης φρενων.
11He that tilleth his land shall be satisfied with bread; but he that followeth the worthless is void of understanding.
12[] Ο ασεβης ζητει την υπερασπισιν των κακων· αλλ' η ριζα του δικαιου αναδιδει.
12The wicked desireth the net of evil [men]; but the root of the righteous yieldeth [fruit].
13[] Δι' αμαρτιαν χειλεων παγιδευεται ο ασεβης· ο δε δικαιος εξερχεται εκ στενοχωριας.
13In the transgression of the lips is an evil snare; but a righteous [man] shall go forth out of trouble.
14[] Εκ των καρπων του στοματος αυτου ο ανθρωπος θελει εμπλησθη αγαθων· και η αμοιβη των χειρων του ανθρωπου θελει επιστρεψει εις αυτον.
14A man is satisfied with good by the fruit of his mouth; and the recompense of a man's hands shall be rendered unto him.
15[] Η οδος του αφρονος ειναι ορθη εις τους οφθαλμους αυτου· ο δε ακουων συμβουλας ειναι σοφος.
15The way of a fool is right in his own eyes; but he that is wise hearkeneth unto counsel.
16[] Ο αφρων φανερονει ευθυς την οργην αυτου· ο δε φρονιμος σκεπαζει το ονειδος αυτου.
16The vexation of the fool is presently known; but a prudent [man] covereth shame.
17[] Ο λαλων αληθειαν αναγγελλει το δικαιον· ο δε ψευδομαρτυς δολον.
17He that uttereth truth sheweth forth righteousness; but a false witness deceit.
18[] Ο φλυαρος ειναι ως τραυματα μαχαιρας· η δε γλωσσα των σοφων, ιασις.
18There is that babbleth like the piercings of a sword; but the tongue of the wise is health.
19[] Τα χειλη της αληθειας θελουσιν εισθαι σταθερα διαπαντος· η δε ψευδης γλωσσα μονον στιγμιαια.
19The lip of truth shall be established for ever; but a lying tongue is but for a moment.
20[] Δολος ειναι εν τη καρδια των μηχανευομενων κακα· ευφροσυνη δε εις τους βουλευομενους ειρηνην.
20Deceit is in the heart of them that devise evil; but to the counsellors of peace is joy.
21[] Ουδεμια βλαβη θελει συμβη εις τον δικαιον· οι δε ασεβεις θελουσιν εμπλησθη κακων.
21There shall no evil happen to a righteous [man]; but the wicked shall be filled with mischief.
22[] Ψευδη χειλη βδελυγμα εις τον Κυριον· οι δε ποιουντες αληθειαν ειναι δεκτοι εις αυτον.
22Lying lips are an abomination to Jehovah; but they that deal truly are his delight.
23[] Ο φρονιμος ανθρωπος καλυπτει γνωσιν· η δε καρδια των αφρονων διακηρυττει μωριαν.
23A prudent man concealeth knowledge; but the heart of the foolish proclaimeth folly.
24[] Η χειρ των επιμελων θελει εξουσιαζει· οι δε οκνηροι θελουσιν εισθαι υποτελεις.
24The hand of the diligent shall bear rule; but the slothful [hand] shall be under tribute.
25[] Η λυπη εν τη καρδια του ανθρωπου ταπεινονει αυτην· ο δε καλος λογος ευφραινει αυτην.
25Heaviness in the heart of man maketh it stoop; but a good word maketh it glad.
26[] Ο δικαιος υπερεχει του πλησιον αυτου· η δε οδος των ασεβων πλανα αυτους.
26The righteous guideth his neighbour; but the way of the wicked misleadeth them.
27[] Ο οκνηρος δεν επιτυγχανει του θηραματος αυτου· τα δε υπαρχοντα του επιμελους ανθρωπου ειναι πολυτιμα.
27The slothful roasteth not what he took in hunting; but man's precious substance is to the diligent.
28[] Εν τη οδω της δικαιοσυνης ειναι ζωη· και η πορεια της οδου αυτης δεν φερει εις θανατον.
28In the path of righteousness is life, and in the pathway thereof there is no death.
