¹Davíð ráðgaðist um við þúsundhöfðingjana og við hundraðshöfðingjana, við alla höfðingjana.

¹David consulted with the captains of thousands and of hundreds, even with every leader.

²Og Davíð mælti við Ísraelssöfnuð: ,,Ef yður líkar svo, og virðist það vera komið frá Drottni, Guði vorum, þá skulum vér senda til frænda vorra, sem eftir eru orðnir í öllum héruðum Ísraels, svo og til prestanna og levítanna í borgunum með beitilöndunum, er að þeim liggja, og skulu þeir safnast til vor.

²David said to all the assembly of Israel, “If it seems good to you, and if it is of Yahweh our God, let us send abroad everywhere to our brothers who are left in all the land of Israel, with whom the priests and Levites are in their cities that have suburbs, that they may gather themselves to us;

³Skulum vér sækja örk Guðs vors, því að á dögum Sáls höfum vér ekki spurt um hana.``

³and let us bring again the ark of our God to us. For we didn’t seek it in the days of Saul.”

⁴Svaraði þá allur söfnuður, að svo skyldi gjöra, því að öllum lýðnum leist þetta rétt vera.

⁴All the assembly said that they would do so; for the thing was right in the eyes of all the people.

⁵Kallaði þá Davíð saman allan Ísrael, frá Síhór í Egyptalandi, allt þar til, er leið liggur til Hamat, til þess að flytja örk Guðs frá Kirjat Jearím.

⁵So David assembled all Israel together, from the Shihor the brook of Egypt even to the entrance of Hamath, to bring the ark of God from Kiriath Jearim.

⁶Og Davíð og allur Ísrael fór til Baala, til Kirjat Jearím, sem er í Júda, til þess að flytja þaðan örk Guðs, sem kennd er við nafn Drottins, hans, sem situr uppi yfir kerúbunum.

⁸Og Davíð og allur Ísrael dansaði fyrir Guði af öllum mætti, með söng, gígjum, hörpum, bumbum, skálabumbum og lúðrum.

⁸David and all Israel played before God with all their might, even with songs, and with harps, and with stringed instruments, and with tambourines, and with cymbals, and with trumpets.

⁹When they came to the threshing floor of Chidon, Uzza put forth his hand to hold the ark; for the oxen stumbled.

¹¹David was displeased, because Yahweh had broken forth on Uzza; and he called that place Perez Uzza, to this day.

¹²Davíð varð hræddur við Guð á þeim degi og sagði: ,,Hvernig má ég þá flytja örk Guðs til mín?``

¹²David was afraid of God that day, saying, “How shall I bring the ark of God home to me?”

¹³Og Davíð flutti ekki örkina til sín í Davíðsborg, heldur sneri hann með hana til húss Óbeð Edóms í Gat.Og örk Guðs var þrjá mánuði í húsi Óbeð Edóms, í húsi hans, og Drottinn blessaði hús Óbeð Edóms og allt það, er hans var.

¹³So David didn’t move the ark to him into the city of David, but carried it aside into the house of Obed-Edom the Gittite.

¹⁴Og örk Guðs var þrjá mánuði í húsi Óbeð Edóms, í húsi hans, og Drottinn blessaði hús Óbeð Edóms og allt það, er hans var.

¹⁴The ark of God remained with the family of Obed-Edom in his house three months: and Yahweh blessed the house of Obed-Edom, and all that he had.
