1Tsy mahafantatra izay ratsy va ny vavako? Tsy mpiantafika va ny zanak'olombelona etỳ ambonin'ny tany? Ary tsy tahaka ny andron'ny mpikarama va ny androny?
1Is there not a warfare to man on earth? And as the days of an hireling his days?
2Toy ny mpanompo maniry alokaloka, ary toy ny mpikarama miandry ny karaman'ny asany,
2As a servant desireth the shadow, And as a hireling expecteth his wage,
3Dia toy izany no anaovana ahy hahita volana mampahory, ary alina mahadisadisa no tendrena ho ahy.
3So I have been caused to inherit months of vanity, And nights of misery they numbered to me.
4Raha vao mandry aho, dia mieritreritra hoe: Rahoviana re no hifoha aho? Fa mihalava izany ny alina, ary mivadibadika indrindra aho mandra-pahazavan'ny andro.[Heb. hariva]
4If I lay down then I said, `When do I rise!` And evening hath been measured, And I have been full of tossings till dawn.
5Ny nofoko mitafy olitra sy baingan-tany; efa maina ny hoditro, kanjo mitsiranorano indray.
5Clothed hath been my flesh [with] worms, And a clod of dust, My skin hath been shrivelled and is loathsome,
6Faingana noho ny famahanan-tenona ny androko ka lany tsy misy fanantenana.
6My days swifter than a weaving machine, And they are consumed without hope.
7Tsarovy fa rivotra ny aiko: ary tsy hahita soa intsony ny masoko.
7Remember Thou that my life [is] a breath, Mine eye turneth not back to see good.
8Tsy hahita ahy intsony ny mason'izay mijery ahy: Ny masonao hizaha ahy, fa tsy ho ao aho.
8The eye of my beholder beholdeth me not. Thine eyes [are] upon me — and I am not.
9Tahaka ny rahona misava ka levona, dia tahaka izany koa, izay midina any amin'ny fiainan-tsi-hita tsy mba hiakatra intsony;[Heb. Sheola]
9Consumed hath been a cloud, and it goeth, So he who is going down to Sheol cometh not up.
10Tsy hiverina any an-tranony intsony izy. Ary tsy hahalala azy intsony ny fonenany.
10He turneth not again to his house, Nor doth his place discern him again.
11Ary izaho dia tsy hamehy vava, Fa hiteny noho ny fahorian'ny fanahiko sy hitaraina noho ny fangidian'ny aiko.
11Also I — I withhold not my mouth — I speak in the distress of my spirit, I talk in the bitterness of my soul.
12Ranomasina va aho, na trozona, No dia asianao fiambenana?
12A sea-[monster] am I, or a dragon, That thou settest over me a guard?
13Raha hoy izaho: Hampionona ahy ny farafarako, hampitony ny fitarainako ny fandriako.
13When I said, `My bed doth comfort me,` He taketh away in my talking my couch.
14Dia mampitahotra ahy amin'ny nofy Hianao ary mampihorohoro ahy amin'ny tsindrimandry;
14And thou hast affrighted me with dreams, And from visions thou terrifiest me,
15Ka dia aleon'ny fanahiko ny hokendaina, eny, aleoko ny fahafatesana aza toy izay izato fitofezako izato;[Heb. taolako]
15And my soul chooseth strangling, Death rather than my bones.
16Maharikoriko ahy izao, tsy tiako ny ho velona ela; Ilaozy miala aho, fa fofona foana ny androko.
16I have wasted away — not to the age do I live. Cease from me, for my days [are] vanity.
17Inona moa ny zanak'olombelona, no ekenao ho lehibe, ka ampandinihinao azy ny fonao,
17What [is] man that Thou dost magnify him? And that Thou settest unto him Thy heart?
18Sady fantarinao isa-maraina izy; sy izahanao toetra isaky ny indray mipi-maso?
18And inspectest him in the mornings, In the evenings dost try him?
19Mandra-pahoviana re vao hihodina tsy hijery ahy Hianao, ka mba hiala amiko mandra-piteliko rora?
19How long dost Thou not look from me? Thou dost not desist till I swallow my spittle.
20Na dia ho nanota aza aho, nampaninona Anao moa izany, ry Mpandinika ny olombelona? Nahoana no dia nataonao fikendry aho, ka efa tonga enta-mavesatra amiko aho?Ary nahoana no tsy mamela ny fahadisoako sy manaisotra ny heloko Hianao? Fa izao dia efa handry any amin'ny vovoka aho; ary hitady ahy fatratra Hianao, fa tsy ho atỳ intsony aho.
20I have sinned, what do I to Thee, O watcher of man? Why hast Thou set me for a mark to Thee, And I am for a burden to myself — and what?
21Ary nahoana no tsy mamela ny fahadisoako sy manaisotra ny heloko Hianao? Fa izao dia efa handry any amin'ny vovoka aho; ary hitady ahy fatratra Hianao, fa tsy ho atỳ intsony aho.
21Thou dost not take away my transgression, And cause to pass away mine iniquity, Because now, for dust I lie down: And Thou hast sought me — and I am not!
