1मुबलक अन्नाने भरलेल्या भांडणयुक्त घरापेक्षा कोरड्या भाकरीच्या तुकडा शांतीने खाणे बरे!
1Better [is] a dry morsel, and rest with it, Than a house full of the sacrifices of strife.
2सेवकाचा हुशार मुलगा मालकाच्या आळशी मुलावर ताबा मिळवील. तो हुशार मुलगा मालकाचे सर्व काही घेईल.
2A wise servant ruleth over a son causing shame, And in the midst of brethren He apportioneth an inheritance.
3सोने आणि चांदी शुध्द करण्यासाठी आगीत टाकतात. लोकांची मने मात्र परमेश्वर शुध्द करतो.
3A refining pot [is] for silver, and a furnace for gold, And the trier of hearts [is] Jehovah.
4दुष्ट माणूस इतर लोक वाईट गोष्टी सांगतात त्या ऐकतो. जे लोक खोटे बोलतात ते खोटे ऐकतात सुध्दा.
4An evil doer is attentive to lips of vanity, Falsehood is giving ear to a mischievous tongue.
5काही लोक गरीबांची थट्टी करतात. ज्यांच्यापुढे समस्या असतात त्यांना ते हसतात. या वरुन असे दिसते की ते वाईट लोक, ज्या देवाने त्यांची निर्मिती केली त्या देवाचा आदर करीत नाहीत. त्यांना शिक्षा होईल.
5Whoso is mocking at the poor Hath reproached his Maker, Whoso is rejoicing at calamity is not acquitted.
6नातवंडे म्हाताऱ्या माणसांना आनंदी बनवतात. आणि मुलांना त्यांच्या आईवडिलांचा अभिमान असतो.
6Sons` sons [are] the crown of old men, And the glory of sons [are] their fathers.
7मूर्खाने खूप बोलणे शहाणपणाचे नसते. तसेच राज्यकर्त्याने खोटे बोलणे शहाणपणाचे नसते.
7Not comely for a fool is a lip of excellency, Much less for a noble a lip of falsehood.
8काही लोकांना कुठेही गेले तरी लाच म्हणजे दैवी मंत्र वाटते आणि ती कामही करते असे वाटते.
8A stone of grace [is] the bribe in the eyes of its possessors, Whithersoever it turneth, it prospereth.
9एखाद्याने तुमचे काही वाईट केल्यानंतर जर तुम्ही त्याला क्षमा करु शकला तर तुम्ही मित्र बनू शकता. पण जर तुम्ही त्याची करणी सतत मनात ठेवली तर त्यामुळे मैत्रीत बाधा येईल.
9Whoso is covering transgression is seeking love, And whoso is repeating a matter Is separating a familiar friend.
10हुशार माणूस तंबी दिल्या बरोबर शिकतो. परंतु मूर्ख माणूस शंभर फटके मारल्यावरही शिकत नाही.
10Rebuke cometh down on the intelligent More than a hundred stripes on a fool.
11वाईट माणसाला केवळ चुकाच करायच्या असतात. शेवटी देव त्याला शिक्षा करायला देवदूत पाठवेल.
11An evil man seeketh only rebellion, And a fierce messenger is sent against him.
12मूर्खाला भेटण्यापेक्षा, जीची पिल्ले चोरीला गेलीत अशा चवताळलेल्या अस्वलाच्या मादीला तोंड देणे बरे!
12The meeting of a bereaved bear by a man, And — not a fool in his folly.
13जे लोक तुमच्यासाठी चांगल्या गोष्टी करतात त्यांच्यासाठी तुम्ही वाईट गोष्टी करु नका. तुम्ही जर तसे केलेत तर तुम्हाला आयुष्यभर संकटांना सामोर जावे लागेल.
13Whoso is returning evil for good, Evil moveth not from his house.
14वादाला तोंड फोडणे हे धरणात भोक करण्यासारखे आहे. वाद मोठा होण्याच्या आतच तो बंद करा.
14The beginning of contention [is] a letting out of waters, And before it is meddled with leave the strife.
15दोषी नसणाऱ्याला शिक्षा करणे आणि दोषी असणाऱ्यांचे समर्थन करणे या दोन गोष्टी परमेश्वराला आवडत नाहीत.
15Whoso is justifying the wicked, And condemning the righteous, Even both of these [are] an abomination to Jehovah.
16मूर्खाकडचा पैसा वाया जातो. का? कराण तो मूर्ख पैशाचा वापर शहाणा होण्यासाठी करत नाही.
16Why [is] this — a price in the hand of a fool to buy wisdom, And a heart there is none?
17मित्र नेहमी प्रेम करतो. खरा भाऊ संकटाच्या वेळीसुध्दा मदत करतो.
17At all times is the friend loving, And a brother for adversity is born.
18केवळ मूर्खच दुसऱ्या माणसाच्या कर्जाची हमी देईल.
18A man lacking heart is striking hands, A surety he becometh before his friend.
19ज्या माणसाला वाद घालायला आवडतो त्याला पाप करायलाही आवडते. जर तुम्ही स्वत:चीच भलावण केली तर तुम्ही संकटांना आमंत्रण देता.
19Whoso is loving transgression is loving debate, Whoso is making high his entrance is seeking destruction.
20वाईट माणसाला नफा होणार नाही. जो माणूस खोटे बोलतो त्याच्यावर संकटे येतील.
20The perverse of heart findeth not good, And the turned in his tongue falleth into evil.
21मूर्ख मुलगा असलेले वडील दु:खी होतील. मूर्खाचे वडील सुखी नसतील.
21Whoso is begetting a fool hath affliction for it, Yea, the father of a fool rejoiceth not.
22आनंद चांगल्या औषधासारखा असतो. पण दु:ख हे आजारासारखे असते.
22A rejoicing heart doth good to the body, And a smitten spirit drieth the bone.
23वाईट माणूस दुसऱ्यांना फसवण्यासाठी गुप्ततेने पैसे घेतो.
23A bribe from the bosom the wicked taketh, To turn aside the paths of judgment.
24शहाणा माणूस नेहमी सर्वांत चांगली गोष्ट करण्याचा विचार करतो. पण मूर्ख माणूस दूरच्या जगाचे स्वप्न पाहातो.
24The face of the intelligent [is] to wisdom, And the eyes of a fool — at the end of the earth.
25मूर्ख मुलगा वडिलांसाठी दु:ख आणतो आणि जिने त्याला जन्म दिला त्या आईसाठी वेदना आणतो.
25A provocation to his father [is] a foolish son, And bitterness to her that bare him.
26काहीही चूक केली नसताना एखाद्याला शिक्षा करणे चूक आहे. जे नेते प्रामाणिक असतात त्यांना शिक्षा करणे चूक आहे.
26Also, to fine the righteous is not good, To smite nobles for uprightness.
27शहाणा माणूस शब्द काळजीपूर्वक वापरतो. शहाणा माणूस लवकर रागावत नाही.
27One acquainted with knowledge is sparing his words, And the cool of temper [is] a man of understanding.
28मूर्ख माणूस जर गप्प बसला तर तो सुध्दा शहाणा वाटतो. जर तो काही बोलला नाही तर तो शहाणा आहे असे लोकांना वाटते.
28Even a fool keeping silence is reckoned wise, He who is shutting his lips intelligent!
