¹मुला, दुसन्याच्या कर्जाला जामीन राहू नकोस. त्या माणसाला कर्जांची परतफेड करता आली नाही तर तू ते परत करण्याचे वचन का दिलेस? तू दुसऱ्याच्या कर्जाची हमी घेतलीस का?

¹My son, if you have become collateral for your neighbor, if you have struck your hands in pledge for a stranger;

²तर मग तू अडकलास. तुला तुझ्या शब्दांनीच अडकवले.

²You are trapped by the words of your mouth. You are ensnared with the words of your mouth.

³तू त्या माणसाच्या शक्तीखाली आलास. मग त्याच्याकडे जा आणि स्वत:ला सोडव. त्याच्या कर्जापासून तुझी सुटका करण्यासाठी त्याची भीक माग.

³Do this now, my son, and deliver yourself, since you have come into the hand of your neighbor. Go, humble yourself. Press your plea with your neighbor.

⁴विश्रांतीसाठी वा झोपण्यासाठी सुध्दा थांबू नकोस.

⁴Give no sleep to your eyes, nor slumber to your eyelids.

⁵शिकाऱ्यापासून हरिण जसे दूर पळते तसा तू सापळ्यापासून दूर राहा. जाळ्यातून उडून जाणान्या पक्ष्याप्रमाणे स्वत:ला सोडव.

⁵Free yourself, like a gazelle from the hand of the hunter, like a bird from the snare of the fowler.

⁶आळशी माणसा, तुला मुंगी सारखे व्हायला हवे. मुंगी काय करते ते बघ. मुंगी पासून शीक.

⁶Go to the ant, you sluggard. Consider her ways, and be wise;

⁷मुंगीला राजा नाही, वरिष्ठ नाही की नेता नाही.

⁸पण उन्हाळ्यात ती सगळे अन्न गोळा करते. मुंगी तिचे अन्न साठवते आणि हिवाळ्यात तिच्याजवळ भरपूर अन्न असते.

⁸provides her bread in the summer, and gathers her food in the harvest.

⁹आळशी माणसा, तू किती वेळ झोपून राहाणार आहेस? तू विश्रांतीतून केव्हा उठणार आहेस?

⁹How long will you sleep, sluggard? When will you arise out of your sleep?

¹⁰आळशी माणूस म्हणतो, “मला थोडी झोप हवी. मी हथे थोड्या वेळासाठी पडतो.”

¹⁰A little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of the hands to sleep:

¹¹परंतु तो झोपतच राहातो. आणि गरीब होत राहातो. लवकरच त्याच्याजवळ काहीही नसेल. चोर अचानक येऊन सर्व काही घेऊन जातो त्याचप्रमाणे त्याला अचानक गरीबी येईल.

¹¹so your poverty will come as a robber, and your scarcity as an armed man.

¹²दुष्ट आणि कवडीमोल माणूस खोटे बोलतो. आणि वाईट गोष्टी सांगतो.

¹²A worthless person, a man of iniquity, is he who walks with a perverse mouth;

¹³तो डोळे मिचकावतो आणि लोकांना मूर्ख बनविण्यासाठी खुणा करतो.

¹³who winks with his eyes, who signals with his feet, who motions with his fingers;

¹⁴तो माणूस दुष्ट असतो, तो नेहमी वाईट गोष्टी करण्याच्या योजना आखतो. तो सगळीकडे संकटे आणतो.

¹⁴in whose heart is perverseness, who devises evil continually, who always sows discord.

¹⁵पण त्याला शिक्षा होईल. त्याच्यावर अचानक संकट येईल. त्याचा त्वरित नाश होईल. आणि त्याला काहीही मदत मिळू शकणार नाही.

¹⁵Therefore his calamity will come suddenly. He will be broken suddenly, and that without remedy.

¹⁶परमेश्वर या सहा, नाही सात गोष्टींचा तिरस्कार करतो.

¹⁶There are six things which Yahweh hates; yes, seven which are an abomination to him:

¹⁷डोळे, जे माणूस गर्विष्ठ आहे हे दाखवतात. जीभ, जी खोटे बोलते, हात, जे निरपराध्यांना ठार मारतात.

¹⁷haughty eyes, a lying tongue, hands that shed innocent blood;

¹⁸ह्रदय जे वाईट गोष्टी करण्याच्या योजना आखते. पाय जे वाईट गोष्टी करायला धाव घेतात.

¹⁸a heart that devises wicked schemes, feet that are swift in running to mischief,

¹⁹माणूस जो खोटे बोलतो आणि कोर्टात खऱ्या नसलेल्या गोष्टी सांगतो. माणूस जो वादविवादाला सुरुवात करतो आणि दुसऱ्यांमध्ये भांडणे लावून देतो.

¹⁹a false witness who utters lies, and he who sows discord among brothers.

²⁰माझ्या मुला, तुझ्या वडिलांची आज्ञा लक्षात ठेव. आणि तुझ्या आईची शिकवण विसरु नकोस.

²⁰My son, keep your father’s commandment, and don’t forsake your mother’s teaching.

²¹त्याचे शब्द नेहमी लक्षात ठेव. त्यांच्या शिकवणीला तुझ्या आयुष्याचाच एक भाग बनव.

²¹Bind them continually on your heart. Tie them around your neck.

²²त्यांची शिकवण तुला जिथे जायचे असेल तिथे नेईल. तू झोपलास की ती तुझ्यावर लक्ष ठेवेल आणि तू जेव्हा उठशील तेव्हा ती तुझ्याशी बोलेल आणि तुला मार्ग दाखवील.

²²When you walk, it will lead you. When you sleep, it will watch over you. When you awake, it will talk with you.

²³तुझ्या आईवडिलांची शिकवण आणि आज्ञा प्रकाशाप्रमाणे असून त्या तुला योग्य मार्ग दाखवतात. ते तुला योग्य मार्ग दाखवतात आणि जीवनाचा मार्ग आचरायला शिकवतात.

²³For the commandment is a lamp, and the law is light. Reproofs of instruction are the way of life,

²⁴त्यांची शिकवण तुला दुष्ट स्त्रीकडे जाण्यापासून परावृत्त करते. नवऱ्याला सोडून आलेल्या बाईच्या भुरळ पाडणाऱ्या बोलण्यापासून ते शब्द तुझे रक्षण करतात.

²⁴to keep you from the immoral woman, from the flattery of the wayward wife’s tongue.

²⁵ती स्त्री सुंदर असेल. पण ते सौंदर्य तुझ्यात जळू देऊ नकोस आणि तुला त्याची भुरळ पडू देऊ नकोस. तू तिच्या डोळ्यांनी जायबंदी होऊ नकोस.

²⁵Don’t lust after her beauty in your heart, neither let her captivate you with her eyelids.

²⁶वेश्येचा मोबदला एक भाकरीचा असेल. पण दुसऱ्याच्या बायकोची किंमत म्हणून तुला तुझे जीवित द्यावे लागेल.

²⁶For a prostitute reduces you to a piece of bread. The adulteress hunts for your precious life.

²⁷जर एखाद्याने स्वत:वर निखारे ओतले तर त्याचे कपडेसुध्दा जळतील.

²⁷Can a man scoop fire into his lap, and his clothes not be burned?

²⁸जरा एखादा माणूस निखाऱ्यांवर चालला तर त्याचे पाय भाजतील.

²⁸Or can one walk on hot coals, and his feet not be scorched?

²⁹दुसऱ्या माणसाच्या बायकोबरोबर झोपणाऱ्याचेही असेच होते. त्या माणसाला दु:ख भोगावे लागते.

²⁹So is he who goes in to his neighbor’s wife. Whoever touches her will not be unpunished.

³¹but if he is found, he shall restore seven times. He shall give all the wealth of his house.

³²पण जो माणूस व्यभिचाराचे पाप करतो तो मूर्ख असतो. तो स्वत:चा नाश करीत असतो. तो स्वत:च त्याच्या नाशाला कारणीभूत असतो.

³²He who commits adultery with a woman is void of understanding. He who does it destroys his own soul.

³³लोकांना त्याच्याबद्दल वाटणारा आदर नाहीसा होतो. आणि त्याच्यावरचा लज्जेचा डाग कधीही धुतला जाणार नाही.

³³He will get wounds and dishonor. His reproach will not be wiped away.

³⁴त्या स्त्रीचा नवरा मत्सरी होईल, त्या नवऱ्याला खूप राग येईल. त्या दुसऱ्या माणसाला शिक्षा करण्यासाठी तो काय वाट्टेल ते करेल.

³⁴For jealousy arouses the fury of the husband. He won’t spare in the day of vengeance.

³⁵त्याचा राग शांत करण्यासाठी कितीही पैसा दिला तरी तो पुरेसा ठरणार नाही.

³⁵He won’t regard any ransom, neither will he rest content, though you give many gifts.
