1एक ज्ञानी छोरोले आफ्नो बाबुको कुरा राम्ररी सुन्छ, तर घमण्डी मानिसले हप्काइलाई ग्रहण गर्दैन।
1A wise son — the instruction of a father, And a scorner — he hath not heard rebuke.
2तिनीहरूले भनेका कुराहरूको लागि असल मानिसहरू पुरस्कृत हुन्छन्, तर दुष्ट मानिस सधैं खराब काम मात्र गर्न चाहान्छन्।
2From the fruit of the mouth a man eateth good, And the soul of the treacherous — violence.
3एकजना मानिस जसले आफ्नो मुखलाई काबुमा राख्छ उसले आफ्नै जीवनलाई रक्षा गर्छ। तर जो मानिस केही नसम्झी अथवा बेफिक्री धेरै बोल्छ त्यसले आफैंमाथि विपत्ति र विनाश ल्याउँछ।
3Whoso is keeping his mouth, is keeping his soul, Whoso is opening wide his lips — ruin to him!
4अल्छे मानिसको धेरै चाहनहरू हुन्छन् तर उसले केही पाउँदैन तर परिश्रमी मानिस सँग उसले चाहे भन्दा ज्यादा चीज हुन्छ।
4The soul of the slothful is desiring, and hath not. And the soul of the diligent is made fat.
5धर्मी मानिसहरूले झूटलाई घृणा गर्छन्। तर दुष्ट मानिसहरूले शर्मलाग्दो अनि बेइज्जतीपूर्ण व्यवहार गर्छन्।
5A false word the righteous hateth, And the wicked causeth abhorrence, and is confounded.
6इमान्दरिताले निर्दोषहरूको रक्षा गर्छ, तर दुष्टताले पापीहरूलाई नष्ट पार्छ।
6Righteousness keepeth him who is perfect in the way, And wickedness overthroweth a sin offering.
7यस्ता मानिसहरू छन् जो धनी छौ भनी बहाना गर्छ, तर उनीहरूसँग केही पनि हुँदैन, अनि यस्ता मानिसहरू छन् जो गरिब भएको वहान गर्छन् तर उनीहरूसँग धेरै सम्पत्ति हुन्छ।
7There is who is making himself rich, and hath nothing, Who is making himself poor, and wealth [is] abundant.
8धनी मानिसले आफ्नो ज्यान जोगाउनुलाई धेरै धन खर्च गर्ला, तर गरीब मानिसलाई त्यस्तो अवस्था कतै आइलाग्दैन।
8The ransom of a man`s life [are] his riches, And the poor hath not heard rebuke.
9एकजना धर्मी मानिस उज्यालोमा चम्कने दीप जस्तै हो तर दुष्ट मानिस प्रकाश नभएको दीप जस्तै हो।
9The light of the righteous rejoiceth, And the lamp of the wicked is extinguished.
10घमण्डले झगडा मात्र बढाउँछ, तर जो मानिस नम्रतापूर्वक अरूको उपदेश सुन्छ त्यो ज्ञानी हुन्छ।
10A vain man through pride causeth debate, And with the counselled [is] wisdom.
11यदि कसैले पैसा ठग्छ भने उसको पैसा चाँडै शेष हुन्छ, तर जसले आफ्नो परिश्रमले एक-एक पैसा गर्दै कमाउँछ उसको धन बढेर जान्छ।
11Wealth from vanity becometh little, And whoso is gathering by the hand becometh great.
12पूरा नभएको र स्थगित रहेको आशाले मन दुःखित बनाउँछ, तर इच्छा पूरा हुनु एउटा जीवनको वृक्ष जस्तो हो।
12Hope prolonged is making the heart sick, And a tree of life [is] the coming desire.
13मानिस जसले अर्तीलाई आदर गर्दैन उसले आफैंमा दुःख ल्याउँछ, तर जसले आज्ञालाई आदर गर्छ ऊ पुरस्कृत हुनेछ।
13Whoso is despising the Word is destroyed for it, And whoso is fearing the Command is repayed.
14बुद्धिमानी मानिसको शिक्षा जीवनको मूल हो, यसले मानिसहरूलाई मृत्युको पासोबाट फर्काउँछ।
14The law of the wise [is] a fountain of life, To turn aside from snares of death.
15बुद्धिमानीले दया पाउछ तर बेईमानको बाटो तिनीहरूको नाश हो।
15Good understanding giveth grace, And the way of the treacherous [is] hard.
16प्रत्येक समझदार मानिसले आफ्नो ज्ञानद्वारा कर्म गर्छ। तर मूर्खले भने आफ्नो मूर्खता मात्र प्रदर्शन गर्छ।
16Every prudent one dealeth with knowledge, And a fool spreadeth out folly.
17सन्देशवाहक अविश्वासनीय छ भने त्यसले कष्ट उब्जाउँछ, तर त्यही सन्देशवाहक विश्वासी भए उसले शान्ति ल्याउँछ।
17A wicked messenger falleth into evil, And a faithful ambassador is healing.
18जसले अर्तीलाई ध्यान दिदैन उसले लाज र दरिद्रताको सामना गर्नु पर्छ। तर जसले शिक्षालाई स्वीकार्छ उसले सम्मान पाउँछ।
18Whoso is refusing instruction — poverty and shame, And whoso is observing reproof is honoured.
19यदि कुनै मानिसले उसले चाहेको केही चिज पाउँछ भने ऊ आनन्दित हुन्छ। तर मूर्खहरू दुष्टता र खराब कर्महरूबाट फर्कन घृणा गर्छन्।
19A desire accomplished is sweet to the soul, And an abomination to fools [is]: Turn from evil.
20जो ज्ञानीको सँगतमा छ ऊ ज्ञानी हुन्छ। तर जो मूर्खसित मित्रता गर्छ उसले दु;ख पाउँछ।
20Whoso is walking with wise men is wise, And a companion of fools suffereth evil.
21पापीहरू जहाँ गए पनि कष्टले पछ्याउँछ, तर असल चिजहरू धर्मी मानिसहरूको लागि एउटा इनाम को रूपमा आउँछन्।
21Evil pursueth sinners, And good recompenseth the righteous.
22इमान्दार तथा सज्जन मानिसले आफ्नो छोरा तथा नाति-नातिनाहरूको लागि सम्पत्ति छोडेर जान्छ, तर एउटा पापीले संचय गरेको समपत्ति धर्मीको हुन्छ।
22A good man causeth sons` sons to inherit, And laid up for the righteous [is] the sinner`s wealth.
23गरीब मानिसले आफ्नो खेतबाट प्रशस्त बाली उब्जाउन सक्छ तर जब त्यहाँ न्याय हुँदैन भने त्यो बाली खोसिन्छ।
23Abundance of food — the tillage of the poor, And substance is consumed without judgment.
24जुन मानिसले आफ्नो छोरा-छोरीलाई सजाय दिंदैन उसले तिनीहरूलाई माया पनि गर्दैन, तर जुन मानिसले आफ्नो छोरालाई प्रेम गर्छ उसलाई अनुशासनमा राख्छ।
24Whoso is sparing his rod is hating his son, And whoso is loving him hath hastened him chastisement.
25एकजना धर्मी मानिसको प्रचुर मात्रमा खाने कुरा हुन्छ, तर दुष्ट मानिसहरूको पेट भर्न प्रयाप्त खाने कुरा हुँदैन।
25The righteous is eating to the satiety of his soul, And the belly of the wicked lacketh!
