1एप्रैमले आफ्नो समय नष्ट गर्छ। “इस्राएल दिनभरि हावाको पछि पछि भागिहिंड्छ। प्रजाहरू ज्यादा भन्दा ज्यादा झूटो बोल्छन्, र चोरी गर्छन्। तिनीहरूले अश्शूरहरूसंग सन्धि गर्छन् अनि आफ्नो भद्राक्षको तेल मिश्र देश लिएर जान्छन्।
1Ephraim feedeth on wind, and pursueth after the east wind: all day long he multiplieth lies and desolation; and they make a covenant with Assyria, and oil is carried into Egypt.
2परमप्रभु भन्नुहुन्छ, “मेरो तर्क यहूदाको विरूद्धमा छ। याकुबलाई उसले गरेको कर्मका निम्ति दण्ड दिनुपर्छ। उसलाई उसले गरेको कु-कर्मका निम्ति निश्चय नै दण्ड दिनुपर्छ।
2Jehovah hath also a controversy with Judah, and he will punish Jacob according to his ways; according to his doings will he recompense him.
3जब याकूब आफ्नो आमाको गर्भमा थियो, अनि गर्भमा हुँदै उसले आफ्नो दाज्यूलाई छल्न शुरू गर्यो। याकूब एकजना शक्तिशाली युवक थियो अनि त्यसै समय उसले परमेश्वरसँग कुश्ती लड्यो।
3He took his brother by the heel in the womb, and in his strength he wrestled with God.
4याकूबले परमेश्वरका स्वर्गदूतसित ऊ युद्ध गर्यो अनि विजय भयो। ऊ रोयो अनि दयाको निम्ति विन्ति गर्यो। यो घट्ना बेतेलमा भएको थियो, त्यहाँ उसले परमेश्वरसंग बातचीत गर्यो।
4Yea, he wrestled with the Angel, and prevailed; he wept, and made supplication unto him: he found him in Bethel, and there he spoke with us,
5यहोवा सेनाहरूका परमेश्वर हुनुहुन्छ। उहाँको नाउँ यहोवा हो।
5-- even Jehovah, the God of hosts, -- Jehovah is his memorial.
6यसकारण आफ्नो परमेश्वरतिर आऊ। उहाँ प्रति साँचो होऊ। राम्रो कर्म गर। परमेश्वरमाथि सधैं निर्भर गर।
6And thou, return unto thy God: keep loving-kindness and judgment, and wait on thy God continually.
7“याकूब एक व्यापारी हो। ऊ आफ्नो साथीहरू समेतलाई ठग्छ। उसको तराजु झूटो छ।
7[He is] a merchant, balances of deceit are in his hand; he loveth to oppress.
8एप्रैम भन्छ, ‘म धनी छु। मैले साँचो धन प्राप्त गरेको छु। मेरो अपराधको बिषयमा कसैले पनि थहा पाउने छैन।’
8And Ephraim saith, Nevertheless I am become rich, I have found me out substance; in all my labours they shall find none iniquity in me that were sin.
9“तर जबदेखि तिमी मिश्रदेशमा थियौ म त त्यही समयदेखि नै परमप्रभु तिम्रो परमेश्वर हुँ। म तिमीलाई भेट हुने पालका दिनहरूमा जस्तै पालमा राख्नेछु।
9But I [that am] Jehovah thy God from the land of Egypt will again make thee to dwell in tents, as in the days of the solemn feast.
10मैले अगमवक्तासित कुरा गरेकोछु र बारम्बार दर्शन दिएकोछु। मैले अगमवक्तालाई तिमीहरूको आफ्नो पाठ पढाउन धेरै तरीका पनि दिएकोछु।
10And I have spoken to the prophets, and I have multiplied visions, and by means of the prophets have I used similitudes.
11तर गिलादमा फेरि पनि पाप छ। अनुपयोगी मूर्तिहरू धेरै छन्। गिलगालमा तिनीहरू गोरूहरू बलिको रूपमा चढाउँछन्। तिनीहरूका धेरै जस्ता वेदीहरू जोतेको खेतमा थुपारेको ढुङ्गाका थुप्राहरू जस्ता छन्।
11If Gilead is iniquity, surely they are but vanity: they sacrifice bullocks in Gilgal; yea, their altars are as heaps in the furrows of the fields.
12“याकूब आरामको खेतमा भागेर गए। यस जग्गामा इस्राएलले पत्नीको निम्ति काम गरेको थियो। स्वास्नी पाउनको निम्ति उसले भेडाहरूको हेरचाह गर्यो।
12And Jacob fled into the country of Syria, and Israel served for a wife, and for a wife he kept [sheep].
13तर परमप्रभुले एउटा अगमवक्ताद्वारा इस्राएललाई मिश्र देशबाट लिएर आउनुभयो। परमप्रभुले एकजना अगमवक्तद्वारा इस्राएललाई सुरक्षित राख्नुभयो।
13And by a prophet Jehovah brought Israel out of Egypt, and by a prophet was he preserved.
14तर एप्रैमले परमप्रभुलाई धेरै रिस उठाइदियो। एप्रैम मृत्यु-दण्ड पाउने अपराधको दोषी छ। यसैकारण उसलाई उसको अपराधको निम्ति दण्ड दिइनेछ। उसको मालिकले उसलाई लज्जित पार्नुहुनेछ।”
14Ephraim provoked [him] to anger most bitterly; and his Lord shall leave his blood upon him, and recompense unto him his reproach.
