1Pris Herren, påkall hans navn, kunngjør blandt folkene hans store gjerninger!
1Give ye thanks unto Jehovah, call upon his name; make known his acts among the peoples.
2Syng for ham, lovsyng ham, grund på alle hans undergjerninger!
2Sing unto him, sing psalms unto him; meditate upon all his wondrous works.
3Ros eder av hans hellige navn! Deres hjerte glede sig som søker Herren!
3Glory ye in his holy name: let the heart of them rejoice that seek Jehovah.
4Spør efter Herren og hans makt, søk hans åsyn all tid!
4Seek Jehovah and his strength, seek his face continually;
5Kom i hu hans undergjerninger som han har gjort, hans undere og hans munns dommer,
5Remember his wondrous works which he hath done, his miracles and the judgments of his mouth:
6I, hans tjener Abrahams avkom, Jakobs barn, hans utvalgte!
6Ye seed of Abraham his servant, ye sons of Jacob, his chosen ones.
7Han er Herren vår Gud, hans dommer er over all jorden.
7He, Jehovah, is our God; his judgments are in all the earth.
8Han kommer evindelig sin pakt i hu, det ord han fastsatte for tusen slekter,
8He is ever mindful of his covenant, -- the word which he commanded to a thousand generations, --
9den pakt han gjorde med Abraham, og sin ed til Isak;
9Which he made with Abraham, and of his oath unto Isaac;
10og han stadfestet den som en rett for Jakob, som en evig pakt for Israel,
10And he confirmed it unto Jacob for a statute, unto Israel for an everlasting covenant,
11idet han sa: Dig vil jeg gi Kana'ans land til arvelodd.
11Saying, Unto thee will I give the land of Canaan, the lot of your inheritance;
12Da de var en liten flokk, få og fremmede der,
12When they were a few men in number, of small account, and strangers in it.
13og vandret fra folk til folk, fra et rike til et annet folk,
13And they went from nation to nation, from one kingdom to another people.
14tillot han ikke noget menneske å gjøre vold imot dem, og han straffet konger for deres skyld:
14He suffered no man to oppress them, and reproved kings for their sakes,
15Rør ikke ved mine salvede, og gjør ikke mine profeter noget ondt!
15[Saying,] Touch not mine anointed ones, and do my prophets no harm.
16Og han kalte hunger inn over landet, han brøt sønder hver støtte av brød*. / {* JES 3, 1.}
16And he called for a famine upon the land; he broke the whole staff of bread.
17Han sendte en mann foran dem, til træl blev Josef solgt.
17He sent a man before them: Joseph was sold for a bondman.
18De plaget hans føtter med lenker, hans sjel kom i jern*, / {* d.e. hans lenker voldte hans sjel bitter smerte.}
18They afflicted his feet with fetters; his soul came into irons;
19inntil den tid da hans ord slo til, da Herrens ord viste hans uskyld.
19Until the time when what he said came about: the word of Jehovah tried him.
20Da sendte kongen bud og lot ham løs, herskeren over folkeslag gav ham fri.
20The king sent and loosed him -- the ruler of peoples -- and let him go free.
21Han satte ham til herre over sitt hus og til hersker over alt sitt gods,
21He made him lord of his house, and ruler over all his possessions:
22forat han skulde binde hans fyrster efter sin vilje og lære hans eldste visdom.
22To bind his princes at his pleasure, and teach his elders wisdom.
23Så kom Israel til Egypten, og Jakob bodde som fremmed i Kams land.
23And Israel came into Egypt, and Jacob sojourned in the land of Ham.
24Og han* gjorde sitt folk såre fruktbart og gjorde det sterkere enn dets motstandere. / {* Gud.}
24And he made his people exceeding fruitful, and made them mightier than their oppressors.
25Han vendte deres hjerte til å hate hans folk, til å gå frem med svik mot hans tjenere.
25He turned their heart to hate his people, to deal subtilly with his servants.
26Han sendte Moses, sin tjener, Aron som han hadde utvalgt.
26He sent Moses his servant, [and] Aaron whom he had chosen:
27De gjorde hans tegn iblandt dem og undere i Kams land.
27They set his signs among them, and miracles in the land of Ham.
28Han sendte mørke og gjorde det mørkt, og de var ikke gjenstridige mot hans ord.
28He sent darkness, and made it dark; and they rebelled not against his word.
29Han gjorde deres vann til blod, og han drepte deres fisker.
29He turned their waters into blood, and caused their fish to die.
30Deres land vrimlet av frosk, endog i deres kongers saler.
30Their land swarmed with frogs, -- in the chambers of their kings.
31Han talte, og det kom fluesvermer, mygg innen hele deres landemerke.
31He spoke, and there came dog-flies, [and] gnats in all their borders.
32Han gav dem hagl for regn, luende ild i deres land,
32He gave them hail for rain, [and] flaming fire in their land;
33og han slo ned deres vintrær og deres fikentrær, og brøt sønder trærne innen deres landemerke.
33And he smote their vines and their fig-trees, and broke the trees of their borders.
34Han talte, og det kom gresshopper og gnagere* uten tall, / {* d.e. gresshopper.}
34He spoke, and the locust came, and the cankerworm, even without number;
35og de åt op hver urt i deres land, og de åt op frukten på deres mark.
35And they devoured every herb in their land, and ate up the fruit of their ground.
36Og han slo alt førstefødt i deres land, førstegrøden av all deres kraft.
36And he smote every firstborn in their land, the firstfruits of all their vigour.
37Og han førte dem ut med sølv og gull, og det fantes ingen i hans stammer som snublet.
37And he brought them forth with silver and gold; and there was not one feeble among their tribes.
38Egypten gledet sig da de drog ut; for frykt for dem var falt på dem.
38Egypt rejoiced at their departure; for the fear of them had fallen upon them.
39Han bredte ut en sky til dekke og ild til å lyse om natten.
39He spread a cloud for a covering, and fire to give light in the night.
40De krevde, og han lot vaktler komme og mettet dem med himmelbrød.
40They asked, and he brought quails, and satisfied them with the bread of heaven.
41Han åpnet klippen, og det fløt vann; det løp gjennem det tørre land som en strøm.
41He opened the rock, and waters gushed forth; they ran in the dry places [like] a river.
42For han kom i hu sitt hellige ord, Abraham, sin tjener,
42For he remembered his holy word, [and] Abraham his servant;
43og han førte sitt folk ut med glede, sine utvalgte med fryderop,
43And he brought forth his people with gladness, his chosen with rejoicing;
44og han gav dem hedningefolks land, og hvad folkeslag med møie hadde vunnet, tok de til eie,
44And he gave them the lands of the nations, and they took possession of the labour of the peoples:
45forat de skulde holde hans forskrifter og ta vare på hans lover. Halleluja!
45That they might keep his statutes, and observe his laws. Hallelujah!
