1Ţofar din Naama a luat cuvîntul şi a zis:
1Then Zophar the Naamathite answered,
2,,Gîndurile mele mă silesc să răspund, şi frămîntarea mea nu-mi dă pace.
2“Therefore do my thoughts give answer to me, even by reason of my haste that is in me.
3Am auzit mustrări cari mă umplu de ruşine, şi din adîncul minţii mele duhul mă face să răspund.
3I have heard the reproof which puts me to shame. The spirit of my understanding answers me.
4Nu ştii tu că, de mult de tot, de cînd a fost aşezat omul pe pămînt,
4Don’t you know this from old time, since man was placed on earth,
5biruinţa celor răi a fost scurtă, şi bucuria nelegiuitului numai de o clipă?
5that the triumphing of the wicked is short, the joy of the godless but for a moment?
6Chiar dacă s'ar înălţa pînă la ceruri, şi capul i-ar ajunge pînă la nori,
6Though his height mount up to the heavens, and his head reach to the clouds,
7va pieri pentru totdeauna, ca murdăria lui, şi cei ce -l vedeau vor zice: ,Unde este?`
7yet he shall perish forever like his own dung. Those who have seen him shall say, ‘Where is he?’
8Va sbura ca un vis, şi nu -l vor mai găsi; va pieri ca o vedenie de noapte.
8He shall fly away as a dream, and shall not be found. Yes, he shall be chased away like a vision of the night.
9Ochiul care -l privea nu -l va mai privi, locul în care locuia nu -l va mai zări.
9The eye which saw him shall see him no more, neither shall his place any more see him.
10Peste fiii lui vor năvăli cei săraci, şi mînile lui vor da înapoi ce a răpit cu sila.
10His children shall seek the favor of the poor. His hands shall give back his wealth.
11Oasele lui, pline de vlaga tinereţii, îşi vor avea culcuşul cu el în ţărînă.
11His bones are full of his youth, but youth shall lie down with him in the dust.
12Dulce era răul în gura lui, îl ascundea subt limbă,
12“Though wickedness is sweet in his mouth, though he hide it under his tongue,
13îl mesteca într'una şi nu -l lăsa, îl ţinea în cerul gurii:
13though he spare it, and will not let it go, but keep it still within his mouth;
14dar hrana lui se va preface în măruntaiele lui, va ajunge în trupul lui o otravă de aspidă.
14yet his food in his bowels is turned. It is cobra venom within him.
15Bogăţiile înghiţite le va vărsa, Dumnezeu le va scoate din pîntecele lui.
15He has swallowed down riches, and he shall vomit them up again. God will cast them out of his belly.
16Otravă de aspidă a supt, şi de aceea, limba năpîrcii îl va ucide.
16He shall suck cobra venom. The viper’s tongue shall kill him.
17Nu-şi va mai plimba privirile peste pîraiele şi rîurile de miere şi de lapte,
17He shall not look at the rivers, the flowing streams of honey and butter.
18va da înapoi ce a cîştigat, şi nu va mai trage folos din cîştig; va da înapoi tot ce a luat, şi nu se va mai bucura de el,
18That for which he labored he shall restore, and shall not swallow it down. According to the substance that he has gotten, he shall not rejoice.
19căci a asuprit pe săraci, şi i -a lăsat să piară, a dărîmat case şi nu le -a zidit la loc.
19For he has oppressed and forsaken the poor. He has violently taken away a house, and he shall not build it up.
20Lăcomia lui n'a cunoscut margini; dar nu va scăpa ce are mai scump.
20“Because he knew no quietness within him, he shall not save anything of that in which he delights.
21Nimic nu scapă de lăcomia lui, dar bună starea lui nu va ţinea.
21There was nothing left that he didn’t devour, therefore his prosperity shall not endure.
22În mijlocul belşugului va fi în nevoie; mîna tuturor ticăloşilor se va ridica asupra lui.
22In the fullness of his sufficiency, distress shall overtake him. The hand of everyone who is in misery shall come on him.
23Şi iată, ca să -i umple pîntecele, Dumnezeu va trimete peste el focul mîniei Lui, şi -l va sătura cu o ploaie de săgeţi.
23When he is about to fill his belly, God will cast the fierceness of his wrath on him. It will rain on him while he is eating.
24Dacă va scăpa de armele de fer, îl va străpunge arcul de aramă.
24He shall flee from the iron weapon. The bronze arrow shall strike him through.
25Îşi smulge din trup săgeata, care schinteie la ieşirea din fierea lui, şi îl apucă spaimele morţii.
25He draws it forth, and it comes out of his body. Yes, the glittering point comes out of his liver. Terrors are on him.
26Toate nenorocirile sînt păstrate pentru comorile lui; va fi mistuit de un foc pe care nu -l va aprinde omul,
26All darkness is laid up for his treasures. An unfanned fire shall devour him. It shall consume that which is left in his tent.
27Cerurile îi vor desveli fărădelegea, şi pămîntul se va ridica împotriva lui.
27The heavens shall reveal his iniquity. The earth shall rise up against him.
28Veniturile casei lui se vor perde, vor pieri în ziua mîniei lui Dumnezeu.
28The increase of his house shall depart. They shall rush away in the day of his wrath.
29Aceasta este soarta pe care o păstrează Dumnezeu celui rău, aceasta este moştenirea pe care i -o hotărăşte Dumnezeu.``
29This is the portion of a wicked man from God, the heritage appointed to him by God.”
