¹Acum dar, Iov, ascultă cuvîntările mele, ia aminte la toate cuvintele mele!

¹“However, Job, please hear my speech, and listen to all my words.

²Iată, deschid gura, şi mi se mişcă limba în cerul gurii.

²See now, I have opened my mouth. My tongue has spoken in my mouth.

³Cu curăţie de inimă voi vorbi, buzele mele vor spune adevărul curat:

³My words shall utter the uprightness of my heart. That which my lips know they shall speak sincerely.

⁴Duhul lui Dumnezeu m'a făcut, şi suflarea Celui Atotputernic îmi dă viaţă.

⁴The Spirit of God has made me, and the breath of the Almighty gives me life.

⁵Dacă poţi, răspunde-mi, apără-ţi pricina, fii gata!

⁵If you can, answer me. Set your words in order before me, and stand forth.

⁶Înaintea lui Dumnezeu eu sînt semenul tău, şi eu ca şi tine am fost făcut din noroi.

⁶Behold, I am toward God even as you are. I am also formed out of the clay.

⁷Astfel frica de mine nu te va turbura, şi greutatea mea nu te va copleşi.

⁷Behold, my terror shall not make you afraid, neither shall my pressure be heavy on you.

⁸Dar tu ai spus în auzul meu, şi am auzit sunetul cuvintelor tale:

⁸“Surely you have spoken in my hearing, I have heard the voice of your words, saying,

⁹,Sînt curat, sînt fără păcat, sînt fără prihană, nu este fărădelege în mine.

⁹‘I am clean, without disobedience. I am innocent, neither is there iniquity in me.

¹⁰Şi Dumnezeu caută pricină de ură împotriva mea, mă socoteşte vrăjmaş al Lui;

¹⁰Behold, he finds occasions against me. He counts me for his enemy.

¹¹îmi pune picioarele în butuci, îmi pîndeşte toate mişcările.`

¹¹He puts my feet in the stocks. He marks all my paths.’

¹²Îţi voi răspunde că aici n'ai dreptate, căci Dumnezeu este mai mare decît omul.

¹²“Behold, I will answer you. In this you are not just, for God is greater than man.

¹³Vrei dar să te cerţi cu El, pentrucă nu dă socoteală fiecăruia de faptele Lui?

¹³Why do you strive against him, because he doesn’t give account of any of his matters?

¹⁴Dumnezeu vorbeşte însă, cînd într'un fel, cînd într'altul. dar omul nu ia seama.

¹⁴For God speaks once, yes twice, though man pays no attention.

¹⁵El vorbeşte prin visuri, prin vedenii de noapte, cînd oamenii sînt cufundaţi într'un somn adînc, cînd dorm în patul lor.

¹⁵In a dream, in a vision of the night, when deep sleep falls on men, in slumbering on the bed;

¹⁶Atunci El le dă înştiinţări, şi le întipăreşte învăţăturile Lui,

¹⁶Then he opens the ears of men, and seals their instruction,

¹⁷ca să abată pe om de la rău, şi să -l ferească de mîndrie,

¹⁷That he may withdraw man from his purpose, and hide pride from man.

¹⁸ca să -i păzească sufletul de groapă şi viaţa de loviturile săbiei.

¹⁸He keeps back his soul from the pit, and his life from perishing by the sword.

¹⁹Şi prin durere este mustrat omul în culcuşul lui, cînd o luptă necurmată îi frămîntă oasele.

¹⁹He is chastened also with pain on his bed, with continual strife in his bones;

²⁰Atunci îi este greaţă de pîne, chiar şi de bucatele cele mai alese.

²⁰So that his life abhors bread, and his soul dainty food.

²¹Carnea i se prăpădeşte şi piere, oasele cari nu i se vedeau rămîn goale;

²¹His flesh is so consumed away, that it can’t be seen. His bones that were not seen stick out.

²²sufletul i se apropie de groapă, şi viaţa de vestitorii morţii.

²²Yes, his soul draws near to the pit, and his life to the destroyers.

²³Dar dacă se găseşte un înger mijlocitor pentru el, unul din miile acelea, cari vestesc omului calea pe care trebuie s'o urmeze,

²³“If there is beside him an angel, an interpreter, one among a thousand, to show to man what is right for him;

²⁴Dumnezeu Se îndură de el şi zice îngerului: ,Izbăveşte -l, ca să nu se pogoare în groapă; am găsit un preţ de răscumpărare pentru el!`

²⁴then God is gracious to him, and says, ‘Deliver him from going down to the pit, I have found a ransom.’

²⁵Şi atunci carnea lui se face mai fragedă ca în copilărie, se întoarce la zilele tinereţei lui.

²⁵His flesh shall be fresher than a child’s. He returns to the days of his youth.

²⁶Se roagă lui Dumnezeu, şi Dumnezeu îi este binevoitor, îl lasă să -I vadă Faţa cu bucurie, şi -i dă înapoi nevinovăţia.

²⁶He prays to God, and he is favorable to him, so that he sees his face with joy. He restores to man his righteousness.

²⁷Atunci el cîntă înaintea oamenilor, şi zice: ,Am păcătuit, am călcat dreptatea, şi n'am fost pedepsit după faptele mele;

²⁷He sings before men, and says, ‘I have sinned, and perverted that which was right, and it didn’t profit me.

²⁸Dumnezeu mi -a izbăvit sufletul ca să nu intre în groapă, şi viaţa mea vede lumina!`

²⁸He has redeemed my soul from going into the pit. My life shall see the light.’

²⁹Iată, acestea le face Dumnezeu, de două ori, de trei ori, omului,

²⁹“Behold, God works all these things, twice, yes three times, with a man,

³⁰ca să -l ridice din groapă, ca să -l lumineze cu lumina celor vii.

³⁰to bring back his soul from the pit, that he may be enlightened with the light of the living.

³¹Ia aminte, Iov, şi ascultă-mă! Taci, şi voi vorbi!

³¹Mark well, Job, and listen to me. Hold your peace, and I will speak.

³²Dacă ai ceva de spus, răspunde-mi! Vorbeşte, căci aş vrea să-ţi dau dreptate.

³²If you have anything to say, answer me. Speak, for I desire to justify you.

³³Dacă n'ai nimic de zis, ascultă-mă! Taci, şi te voi învăţa înţelepciunea.``

³³If not, listen to me. Hold your peace, and I will teach you wisdom.”
