¹The words of king Lemuel; the oracle which his mother taught him.

²Ce să-ţi spun, fiule? Ce să-ţi spun fiul trupului meu? Ce să-ţi spun, fiule, rodul juruinţelor mele?

²“Oh, my son! Oh, son of my womb! Oh, son of my vows!

³Nu-ţi da femeilor vlaga, şi desmierdările tale celor ce pierd pe împăraţi.

³Don’t give your strength to women, nor your ways to that which destroys kings.

⁴Nu se cade împăraţilor, Lemuele, nu se cade împăraţilor să bea vin, nici voivozilor să umble după băuturi tari;

⁴It is not for kings, Lemuel; it is not for kings to drink wine; nor for princes to say, ‘Where is strong drink?’

⁵ca nu cumva, bînd, să uite legea, şi să calce drepturile tuturor celor nenorociţi.

⁵lest they drink, and forget the law, and pervert the justice due to anyone who is afflicted.

⁶Daţi băuturi tari celui ce piere, şi vin, celui cu sufletul amărît;

⁶Give strong drink to him who is ready to perish; and wine to the bitter in soul:

⁷ca să bea să-şi uite sărăcia, şi să nu-şi mai aducă aminte de necazurile lui. -

⁷Let him drink, and forget his poverty, and remember his misery no more.

⁸Deschide-ţi gura pentru cel mut, pentru pricina tuturor celor părăsiţi!

⁸Open your mouth for the mute, in the cause of all who are left desolate.

⁹Deschide-ţi gura, judecă cu dreptate, şi apără pe cel nenorocit şi pe cel lipsit.

⁹Open your mouth, judge righteously, and serve justice to the poor and needy.”

¹⁰Cine poate găsi o femeie cinstită? Ea este mai de preţ decît mărgăritarele.

¹⁴She is like the merchant ships. She brings her bread from afar.

¹⁵Ea se scoală cînd este încă noapte, şi dă hrană casei sale, şi împarte lucrul de peste zi slujnicelor sale.

¹⁵She rises also while it is yet night, gives food to her household, and portions for her servant girls.

¹⁶Se gîndeşte la un ogor, şi -l cumpără; din rodul muncii ei sădeşte o vie. -

¹⁶She considers a field, and buys it. With the fruit of her hands, she plants a vineyard.

¹⁷Ea îşi încinge mijlocul cu putere, şi îşi oţeleşte braţele.

¹⁷She arms her waist with strength, and makes her arms strong.

¹⁸Vede că munca îi merge bine, lumina ei nu se stinge noaptea.

¹⁸She perceives that her merchandise is profitable. Her lamp doesn’t go out by night.

¹⁹Ea pune mîna pe furcă, şi degetele ei ţin fusul.

¹⁹She lays her hands to the distaff, and her hands hold the spindle.

²⁰Ea îşi întinde mîna către cel nenorocit, îşi întinde braţul către cel lipsit.

²⁰She opens her arms to the poor; yes, she extends her hands to the needy.

²¹Nu se teme de zăpadă pentru casa ei, căci toată casa ei este îmbrăcată cu cărmiziu.

²¹She is not afraid of the snow for her household; for all her household are clothed with scarlet.

²²Ea îşi face învelitori, are haine de in supţire şi purpură.

²²She makes for herself carpets of tapestry. Her clothing is fine linen and purple.

²³Bărbatul ei este bine văzut la porţi, cînd şade cu bătrînii ţării.

²³Her husband is respected in the gates, when he sits among the elders of the land.

²⁴Ea face cămăşi, şi le vinde, şi dă cingători negustorului.

²⁴She makes linen garments and sells them, and delivers sashes to the merchant.

²⁵Ea este îmbrăcată cu tărie şi slavă, şi rîde de ziua de mîne.

²⁵Strength and dignity are her clothing. She laughs at the time to come.

²⁶Ea deschide gura cu înţelepciune, şi învăţături plăcute îi sînt pe limbă.

²⁶She opens her mouth with wisdom. Faithful instruction is on her tongue.

²⁷Ea veghează asupra celor ce se petrec în casa ei, şi nu mănîncă pînea lenevirii.

²⁷She looks well to the ways of her household, and doesn’t eat the bread of idleness.

²⁸Fiii ei se scoală, şi o numesc fericită; bărbatul ei se scoală, şi -i aduce laude zicînd:

²⁸Her children rise up and call her blessed. Her husband also praises her:

²⁹,,Multe fete au o purtare cinstită, dar tu le întreci pe toate.``

²⁹“Many women do noble things, but you excel them all.”

³⁰Desmerdările sînt înşelătoare, şi frumuseţa este deşartă, dar femeia care se teme de Domnul va fi lăudată.

³⁰Charm is deceitful, and beauty is vain; but a woman who fears Yahweh, she shall be praised.

³¹Răsplătiţi -o cu rodul muncii ei, şi faptele ei s'o laude la porţile cetăţii

³¹Give her of the fruit of her hands! Let her works praise her in the gates!
