¹Pavel, apoštol Ježiša Krista podľa nariadenia Boha, našeho Spasiteľa, a Pána Ježiša Krista, našej nádeje,

¹Paul, an apostle of Jesus Christ, according to a command of God our Saviour, and of the Lord Jesus Christ our hope,

²Timoteovi, svojmu pravému dieťaťu vo viere: milosť, milosrdenstvo, pokoj od Boha, nášho Otca, a od Krista Ježiša, nášho Pána.

²to Timotheus — genuine child in faith: Grace, kindness, peace, from God our Father, and Christ Jesus our Lord,

³Jako som ťa prosil, keď som išiel do Macedonie, žeby si zostal v Efeze, aby si prikázal niektorým, aby neučili iného učenia

³according as I did exhort thee to remain in Ephesus — I going on to Macedonia — that thou mightest charge certain not to teach any other thing,

⁴ani nedbali na bájky a na rodopravy, nemajúce konca - kraja, ktoré poskytujú skôr škriepky než správu Božiu vo viere.

⁴nor to give heed to fables and endless genealogies, that cause questions rather than the building up of God that is in faith: —

⁵Ale cieľom prikázania je láska z čistého srdca a dobrého svedomia a z nepokryteckej viery,

⁵And the end of the charge is love out of a pure heart, and of a good conscience, and of faith unfeigned,

⁶od čoho niektorí sťa od cieľa zablúdili a uchýlili sa k márnosloviu

⁶from which certain, having swerved, did turn aside to vain discourse,

⁷a chcúc byť učiteľmi zákona, kým nerozumejú, ani čo hovoria ani čo tvrdia.

⁷willing to be teachers of law, not understanding either the things they say, nor concerning what they asseverate,

⁸Ale vieme, že zákon je dobrý, keby ho niekto zákonne používal,

⁸and we have known that the law [is] good, if any one may use it lawfully;

⁹vediac to, že zákon nie je daný pre spravedlivého, ale pre bezzákonných a nepoddajných, pre bezbožných a hriešnych, pre nesvätých a obecných, pre otcovrahov a materovrahov a pre vrahov vôbec,

⁹having known this, that for a righteous man law is not set, but for lawless and insubordinate persons, ungodly and sinners, impious and profane, parricides and matricides, men-slayers,

¹⁰pre smilníkov, samcoložníkov, pre tých, ktorí kupčia s ľuďmi, pre lhárov, krivoprísažníkov, a jestli je čo iné, čo sa protiví zdravému učeniu

¹⁰whoremongers, sodomites, men-stealers, liars, perjured persons, and if there be any other thing that to sound doctrine is adverse,

¹¹podľa evanjelia slávy blahoslaveného Boha, ktorým to evanjeliom som ja poverený.

¹¹according to the good news of the glory of the blessed God, with which I was entrusted.

¹²A ďakujem tomu, ktorý ma posilnil, Kristu Ježišovi, nášmu Pánovi, že ma povážil za verného a postavil do služby,

¹²And I give thanks to him who enabled me — Christ Jesus our Lord — that he did reckon me stedfast, having put [me] to the ministration,

¹³ktorý som bol predtým ruhač a prenasledovník a trýzniteľ, ale som dostal milosrdenstvo, lebo som to robil v nevedomosti v nevere.

¹³who before was speaking evil, and persecuting, and insulting, but I found kindness, because, being ignorant, I did [it] in unbelief,

¹⁴Ale sa preveľmi rozmnožila milosť našeho Pána s vierou a láskou, ktorá je v Kristu Ježišovi.

¹⁴and exceedingly abound did the grace of our Lord, with faith and love that [is] in Christ Jesus:

¹⁵Verné je to slovo a hodno každého prijatia, že Kristus Ježiš prišiel na svet spasiť hriešnikov, z ktorých prvý som ja.

¹⁵stedfast [is] the word, and of all acceptation worthy, that Christ Jesus came to the world to save sinners — first of whom I am;

¹⁶Ale preto som dostal milosrdenstvo, aby na mne prvom dokázal Ježiš Kristus celú zhovievavosť za príklad tým, ktorí majú veriť v neho cieľom večného života.

¹⁶but because of this I found kindness, that in me first Jesus Christ might shew forth all long-suffering, for a pattern of those about to believe on him to life age-during:

¹⁷A Kráľovi vekov, neporušiteľnému, neviditeľnému, jedinému, múdremu Bohu, česť a sláva na veky vekov. Ameň.

¹⁷and to the King of the ages, the incorruptible, invisible, only wise God, [is] honour and glory — to the ages of the ages! Amen.

¹⁸Toto prikázanie ti predkladám, dieťa Timotee, podľa predošlých, na teba sa vzťahujúcich sa proroctiev, aby si v nich bojoval dobrý boj

¹⁸This charge I commit to thee, child Timotheus, according to the prophesies that went before upon thee, that thou mayest war in them the good warfare,

¹⁹majúc vieru a dobré svedomie, ktoré odstrčiac niektorí od seba stroskotali čo do viery,

¹⁹having faith and a good conscience, which certain having thrust away, concerning the faith did make shipwreck,

²⁰z ktorých je Hymeneus a Alexander, ktorých som vydal satanovi, aby sa naučili nerúhať sa.

²⁰of whom are Hymenaeus and Alexander, whom I did deliver to the Adversary, that they might be instructed not to speak evil.
