1Krotká odpoveď odvracia prchlivosť; ale urážlivé slovo vzbudzuje hnev.
1A soft answer turneth back fury, And a grievous word raiseth up anger.
2Jazyk múdrych ozdobuje známosť; ale ústa bláznov vylievajú bláznovstvo.
2The tongue of the wise maketh knowledge good, And the mouth of fools uttereth folly.
3Oči Hospodinove vidia na všetkých miestach, hľadiac pozorujú zlých i dobrých.
3In every place are the eyes of Jehovah, Watching the evil and the good.
4Zdravý jazyk je stromom života; ale prevrátenosť v ňom je skrúšením ducha.
4A healed tongue [is] a tree of life, And perverseness in it — a breach in the spirit.
5Blázon pohŕda kázňou svojho otca; ale ten, kto zachováva karhanie, nadobudne opatrnosti.
5A fool despiseth the instruction of his father, And whoso is regarding reproof is prudent.
6V dome spravedlivého je veľký dostatok; ale v dôchodku bezbožného zmätok.
6[In] the house of the righteous [is] abundant strength, And in the increase of the wicked — trouble.
7Rty múdrych rozsievajú známosť, ale srdce bláznov nie tak.
7The lips of the wise scatter knowledge, And the heart of fools [is] not right.
8Obeť bezbožných je ohavnosťou Hospodinovi; ale modlitba úprimných sa mu ľúbi.
8The sacrifice of the wicked [is] an abomination to Jehovah, And the prayer of the upright [is] His delight.
9Ohavnosťou Hospodinovi je cesta bezbožného; ale toho, kto sa ženie za spravedlivosťou, miluje.
9An abomination to Jehovah [is] the way of the wicked, And whoso is pursuing righteousness He loveth.
10Prísny trest tomu, kto opúšťa cestu; ten, kto nenávidí karhania, zomrie.
10Chastisement [is] grievous to him who is forsaking the path, Whoso is hating reproof dieth.
11Šeol a abaddon sú pred Hospodinom, a pravdaže srdcia synov človeka!
11Sheol and destruction [are] before Jehovah, Surely also the hearts of the sons of men.
12Nemiluje posmievač toho, aby ho niekto karhal; k múdrym nepojde.
12A scorner loveth not his reprover, Unto the wise he goeth not.
13Radostné srdce obveseľuje tvár; ale bolesťou srdca je zronený duch.
13A joyful heart maketh glad the face, And by grief of heart is the spirit smitten.
14Srdce rozumného hľadá známosť; ale ústa bláznov sa pasú na bláznovstve.
14The heart of the intelligent seeketh knowledge, And the mouth of fools enjoyeth folly.
15Všetky dni chudobného človeka utrápeného sú zlé; ale ten, kto je veselého srdca, má vždycky hody.
15All the days of the afflicted [are] evil, And gladness of heart [is] a perpetual banquet.
16Lepšie málo v bázni Hospodinovej ako veliký poklad a v ňom nepokoj.
16Better [is] a little with the fear of Jehovah, Than much treasure, and tumult with it.
17Lepší pokrm zo zeliny, kde je láska, ako vykŕmený vôl a s ním nenávisť.
17Better [is] an allowance of green herbs and love there, Than a fatted ox, and hatred with it.
18Hnevivý človek vzbudzuje svár; ale pomalý do hnevu upokojuje spor.
18A man of fury stirreth up contention, And the slow to anger appeaseth strife.
19Cesta leňocha je ako plot z tŕnia; ale draha úprimných je nasypaná a urovnaná.
19The way of the slothful [is] as a hedge of briers, And the path of the upright is raised up.
20Múdry syn robí otcovi radosť; ale bláznivý človek pohŕda svojou matkou.
20A wise son rejoiceth a father. And a foolish man is despising his mother.
21Bláznovstvo je radosťou tomu, kto je bez rozumu; ale umný muž kráča rovno.
21Folly is joy to one lacking heart, And a man of intelligence directeth [his] going.
22Keď neni rady, bývajú zmarené úmysly; ale vo množstve radcov bude stáť.
22Without counsel [is] the making void of purposes, And in a multitude of counsellors it is established.
23Človek má radosť z odpovedi svojich úst, a slovo na svoj čas, oj, aké je dobré.
23Joy [is] to a man in the answer of his mouth, And a word in its season — how good!
24Cestou života je rozumnému ísť hore, aby sa odchýlil od pekla dole.
24A path of life [is] on high for the wise, To turn aside from Sheol beneath.
25Dom pyšných vytrhne Hospodin a postaví pevne medzu vdovy.
25The house of the proud Jehovah pulleth down, And He setteth up the border of the widow.
26Ohavnosťou sú Hospodinovi myšlienky zlého, ale čistými sú mu príjemné reči.
26An abomination to Jehovah [are] thoughts of wickedness, And pure [are] sayings of pleasantness.
27Lakomec, ktorý dychtí po zisku, trápi svoj dom; ale ten, kto nenávidí darov, bude žiť.
27A dishonest gainer is troubling his house, And whoso is hating gifts liveth.
28Srdce spravedlivého rozmýšľa, čo odpovedať; ale ústa bezbožných vylievajú všelijakú zlosť.
28The heart of the righteous meditateth to answer, And the mouth of the wicked uttereth evil things.
29Hospodin je ďaleko od bezbožných, ale modlitbu spravedlivých čuje.
29Far [is] Jehovah from the wicked, And the prayer of the righteous He heareth.
30Svetlo očí pôsobí srdcu radosť; dobrá zvesť dodáva kostiam tuku.
30The light of the eyes rejoiceth the heart, A good report maketh fat the bone.
31Ucho, ktoré poslúcha karhanie života, bude bývať medzi múdrymi.
31An ear that is hearing the reproof of life Doth lodge among the wise.
32Ten, kto opúšťa kázeň, opovrhuje svojou dušou; ale ten, kto poslúcha karhanie, nadobúda rozumu.
32Whoso is refusing instruction is despising his soul, And whoso is hearing reproof Is getting understanding.
33Bázeň Hospodinova je kázňou múdrosti, a pred slávou ide pokora.
33The fear of Jehovah [is] the instruction of wisdom, And before honour [is] humility!
