¹Vidzte, jakú lásku nám dal Otec - aby sme sa volali deťmi Božími, a sme nimi! Preto nás svet nezná, pretože jeho nepoznal.

¹Behold, how great a love the Father has bestowed on us, that we should be called children of God! For this cause the world doesn’t know us, because it didn’t know him.

²Milovaní, teraz sme deťmi Božími, a ešte sa neukázalo, čo budeme. Ale vieme, že keď sa ukáže, budeme jemu podobní, lebo ho budeme vidieť tak, ako je.

²Beloved, now we are children of God, and it is not yet revealed what we will be. But we know that, when he is revealed, we will be like him; for we will see him just as he is.

³A každý, kto má túto nádej na neho, očisťuje sa, tak ako je aj on čistý.

³Everyone who has this hope set on him purifies himself, even as he is pure.

⁴Každý, kto robí hriech, robí aj proti zákonu, a hriech je prestúpením zákona.

⁴Everyone who sins also commits lawlessness. Sin is lawlessness.

⁵A viete, že sa on ukázal nato, aby sňal naše hriechy, a hriechu v ňom niet.

⁵You know that he was revealed to take away our sins, and in him is no sin.

⁶Nikto, kto zostáva v ňom, nehreší, a nikto, kto hreší, ho nevidel ani ho nepoznal.

⁶Whoever remains in him doesn’t sin. Whoever sins hasn’t seen him, neither knows him.

⁷Dieťatká, nech vás nikto nezvodí! Ten, kto činí spravedlivosť, je spravedlivý, tak ako je on spravedlivý.

⁷Little children, let no one lead you astray. He who does righteousness is righteous, even as he is righteous.

⁸He who sins is of the devil, for the devil has been sinning from the beginning. To this end the Son of God was revealed, that he might destroy the works of the devil.

⁹Whoever is born of God doesn’t commit sin, because his seed remains in him; and he can’t sin, because he is born of God.

¹⁰Po tom poznať deti Božie a deti diablove. Nikto, kto nečiní spravedlivosť, nie je z Boha, a ten, kto nemiluje svojho brata.

¹⁰In this the children of God are revealed, and the children of the devil. Whoever doesn’t do righteousness is not of God, neither is he who doesn’t love his brother.

¹¹Lebo to je tá zvesť, ktorú ste počuli od počiatku, aby sme milovali jeden druhého.

¹¹For this is the message which you heard from the beginning, that we should love one another;

¹²Nie tak, ako čo Kain bol z toho zlého a zabil svojho brata. A prečože ho zabil? Preto, že jeho skutky boly zlé a jeho bratove spravedlivé.

¹²unlike Cain, who was of the evil one, and killed his brother. Why did he kill him? Because his works were evil, and his brother’s righteous.

¹³Nedivte sa, moji bratia, ak vás svet nenávidí.

¹³Don’t be surprised, my brothers, if the world hates you.

¹⁴My vieme, že sme prešli zo smrti do života, lebo milujeme bratov. Ten, kto nemiluje brata, zostáva v smrti.

¹⁴We know that we have passed out of death into life, because we love the brothers. He who doesn’t love his brother remains in death.

¹⁵Každý, kto nenávidí svojho brata, je vrahom, a viete, že niktorý vrah nemá večného života, zostávajúceho v sebe.

¹⁵Whoever hates his brother is a murderer, and you know that no murderer has eternal life remaining in him.

¹⁶Po tom sme poznali lásku Božiu, že on položil za nás svoju dušu. Aj my sme povinní klásť duše za bratov.

¹⁶By this we know love, because he laid down his life for us. And we ought to lay down our lives for the brothers.

¹⁷A kto by mal majetok tohoto sveta a videl by svojho brata, že má nedostatok, a zavrel by pred ním svoje srdce, jako potom zostáva v ňom láska Božia?

¹⁷But whoever has the world’s goods, and sees his brother in need, and closes his heart of compassion against him, how does the love of God remain in him?

¹⁸Moje dieťatká, nemilujme slovom ani jazykom, ale skutkom a pravdou.

¹⁸My little children, let’s not love in word only, neither with the tongue only, but in deed and truth.

¹⁹A po tom známe, že sme z pravdy a upokojíme pred ním svoje srdcia,

¹⁹And by this we know that we are of the truth, and persuade our hearts before him,

²⁰že keď nás obviňuje naše srdce, že Bôh je väčší, ako je naše srdce, a vie všetko.

²⁰because if our heart condemns us, God is greater than our heart, and knows all things.

²¹Milovaní, keď nás neobviňuje naše srdce, máme smelú dôveru k Bohu

²¹Beloved, if our hearts don’t condemn us, we have boldness toward God;

²²a všetko, čokoľvek prosíme, berieme od neho, lebo zachovávame jeho prikázania a činíme to, čo je ľúbe pred ním.

²²and whatever we ask, we receive from him, because we keep his commandments and do the things that are pleasing in his sight.

²³A toto je to jeho prikázanie: aby sme verili menu jeho Syna, Ježiša Krista, a milovali jedni druhých tak, ako nám dal prikázanie.

²³This is his commandment, that we should believe in the name of his Son, Jesus Christ, and love one another, even as he commanded.

²⁴A ten, kto zachováva jeho prikázania, zostáva v ňom a on tiež v ňom. A po tomto známe, že zostáva v nás - z Ducha, ktorého nám dal.

²⁴He who keeps his commandments remains in him, and he in him. By this we know that he remains in us, by the Spirit which he gave us.
