1In beseda GOSPODOVA mi pride, govore:
1The word of Yahweh came to me, saying,
2Sin človečji, je li les vinske trte boljši mimo drugega lesa, mladika, ki je med gozdnimi drevesi?
2Son of man, what is the vine tree more than any tree, the vine-branch which is among the trees of the forest?
3Vzamejo li lesa od nje, da ga porabijo pri kaki pripravi? ali pa vzamejo klin od nje, da bi nanj obesili kako orodje?
3Shall wood be taken of it to make any work? or will men take a pin of it to hang any vessel thereon?
4Glej, v ogenj ga vržejo, da zgori. Ko je ogenj sežgal obadva konca in sredino njegovo prežgal, je li še čemu v prid?
4Behold, it is cast into the fire for fuel; the fire has devoured both its ends, and its midst is burned: is it profitable for any work?
5Glej, ko je bil nepoškodovan, se ni mogel porabiti za nobeno pripravo: koliko manj je pripraven za kaj, ko ga je ogenj sežgal in prežgal?
5Behold, when it was whole, it was meet for no work: how much less, when the fire has devoured it, and it is burned, shall it yet be meet for any work!
6Zato pravi tako Gospod Jehova: Kakor sem dal les vinske trte med gozdnimi drevesi ognju, da ga sežge, tako dam prebivalce jeruzalemske;
6Therefore thus says the Lord Yahweh: As the vine tree among the trees of the forest, which I have given to the fire for fuel, so will I give the inhabitants of Jerusalem.
7in obrnem obličje svoje zoper nje: ven pojdejo iz ognja, a ogenj jih požre. In spoznate, da sem jaz GOSPOD, ko obrnem obličje svoje zoper nje.Deželo pa naredim v pustinjo, zato ker so zakrivili nezvestobo, govori Gospod Jehova.
7I will set my face against them; they shall go forth from the fire, but the fire shall devour them; and you shall know that I am Yahweh, when I set my face against them.

8I will make the land desolate, because they have committed a trespass, says the Lord Yahweh.
