¹А Филистеји се побише с Израиљем, и побегоше Израиљци испред Филистеја, и падаху мртви на гори Гелвуји.

¹Now the Philistines fought against Israel; and the men of Israel fled from before the Philistines, and fell down slain in mount Gilboa.

²И стигоше Филистеји Саула и синове његове, и погубише Филистеји Јонатана и Авинадава и Малхисуја, синове Саулове.

²And the Philistines followed hard after Saul, and after his sons; and the Philistines slew Jonathan, and Abinadab, and Malchishua, the sons of Saul.

³И бој поста жешћи око Саула, и нађоше га стрелци, и он се уплаши од стрелаца.

³And the battle went sore against Saul, and the archers hit him, and he was wounded of the archers.

⁴И рече Саул момку који му ношаше оружје: Извади мач свој, и прободи ме да не дођу ти необрезани и наругају ми се. Али не хте момак који му ношаше оружје, јер га беше врло страх. Тада Саул узе мач и баци се на њ.

⁴Then said Saul to his armourbearer, Draw thy sword, and thrust me through therewith; lest these uncircumcised come and abuse me. But his armourbearer would not; for he was sore afraid. So Saul took a sword, and fell upon it.

⁵А кад момак који му ношаше оружје виде где умре Саул, баци се и он на свој мач, и умре.

⁵And when his armourbearer saw that Saul was dead, he fell likewise on the sword, and died.

⁶Тако погибе Саул; и три сина његовог и сва чељад његова погибоше заједно.

⁶So Saul died, and his three sons, and all his house died together.

⁷А кад сви Израиљци који беху у долини видеше где побегоше Израиљци и где погибе Саул и синови његови, оставише градове своје и побегоше те дођоше Филистеји и осташе у њима.

⁷And when all the men of Israel that were in the valley saw that they fled, and that Saul and his sons were dead, then they forsook their cities, and fled: and the Philistines came and dwelt in them.

⁸А сутрадан дођоше Филистеји да свлаче мртве, и нађоше Саула и синове његове где леже на гори Гелвуји.

⁸And it came to pass on the morrow, when the Philistines came to strip the slain, that they found Saul and his sons fallen in mount Gilboa.

⁹И свукавши га узеше главу његову и оружје његово, и послаше у земљу филистејску на све стране да се објави код лажних богова њихових и по народу.

⁹And when they had stripped him, they took his head, and his armor, and sent into the land of the Philistines round about, to carry tidings unto their idols, and to the people.

¹⁰И оставише оружје његово у кући богова својих, а главу му обесише у кући Дагоновој.

¹⁰And they put his armor in the house of their gods, and fastened his head in the temple of Dagon.

¹¹А кад чуше сви у Јавису галадском све што учинише Филистеји од Саула,

¹¹And when all Jabeshgilead heard all that the Philistines had done to Saul,

¹²Подигоше се сви јунаци и узеше тело Саулово и телеса синова његових, и донесоше их у Јавис, и погребоше кости њихове под храстом у Јавису, и постише седам дана.

¹²They arose, all the valiant men, and took away the body of Saul, and the bodies of his sons, and brought them to Jabesh, and buried their bones under the oak in Jabesh, and fasted seven days.

¹³И тако погибе Саул за безакоње своје, које учини Господу што не слуша речи Господње и што тражи да пита дух врачарски,

¹³So Saul died for his transgression which he committed against the LORD, even against the word of the LORD, which he kept not, and also for asking counsel of one that had a familiar spirit, to enquire of it;

¹⁴А не пита Господа; зато га уби, и пренесе царство на Давида, сина Јесејевог.

¹⁴And inquired not of the LORD: therefore he slew him, and turned the kingdom unto David the son of Jesse.
