1Видите какву нам је љубав дао Отац, да се деца Божија назовемо и будемо; зато свет не познаје нас, јер Њега не позна.
1Behold, what manner of love the Father hath bestowed upon us, that we should be called the sons of God: therefore the world knoweth us not, because it knew him not.
2Љубазни! Сад смо деца Божија, и још се не показа шта ћемо бити; него знамо да кад се покаже, бићемо као и Он, јер ћемо Га видети као што јесте.
2Beloved, now are we the sons of God, and it doth not yet appear what we shall be: but we know that, when he shall appear, we shall be like him; for we shall see him as he is.
3И сваки који ову наду има на Њега, чисти се, као и Он што је чист.
3And every man that hath this hope in him purifieth himself, even as he is pure.
4Сваки који чини грех и безакоње чини: и грех је безакоње.
4Whosoever committeth sin transgresseth also the law: for sin is the transgression of the law.
5И знате да се Он јави да грехе наше узме; и греха у Њему нема.
5And ye know that he was manifested to take away our sins; and in him is no sin.
6Који год у Њему стоји не греши; који год греши не виде Га нити Га позна.
6Whosoever abideth in him sinneth not: whosoever sinneth hath not seen him, neither known him.
7Дечице! Нико да вас не вара: који правду твори праведник је, као што је Он праведан;
7Little children, let no man deceive you: he that doeth righteousness is righteous, even as he is righteous.
8Који твори грех од ђавола је, јер ђаво греши од почетка. Зато се јави Син Божји да раскопа дела ђавоља.
8He that committeth sin is of the devil; for the devil sinneth from the beginning. For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that he might destroy the works of the devil.
9Који је год рођен од Бога не чини греха, јер Његово семе стоји у њему, и не може грешити, јер је рођен од Бога.
9Whosoever is born of God doth not commit sin; for his seed remaineth in him: and he cannot sin, because he is born of God.
10По томе се познају деца Божија и деца ђавоља: који год не твори правде, није од Бога, и који не љуби брата свог.
10In this the children of God are manifest, and the children of the devil: whosoever doeth not righteousness is not of God, neither he that loveth not his brother.
11Јер је ово заповест, коју чусте испочетка, да љубимо један другог.
11For this is the message that ye heard from the beginning, that we should love one another.
12Не као што Каин беше од нечастивог и закла брата свог. И за који га узрок закла? Јер дела његова беху зла, а брата му праведна.
12Not as Cain, who was of that wicked one, and slew his brother. And wherefore slew he him? Because his own works were evil, and his brother's righteous.
13Не чудите се, браћо моја, ако свет мрзи на вас.
13Marvel not, my brethren, if the world hate you.
14Ми знамо да пређосмо из смрти у живот, јер љубимо браћу; јер ко не љуби брата остаје у смрти.
14We know that we have passed from death unto life, because we love the brethren. He that loveth not his brother abideth in death.
15Сваки који мрзи на брата свог крвник је људски; и знате да ниједан крвник људски нема у себи вечни живот.
15Whosoever hateth his brother is a murderer: and ye know that no murderer hath eternal life abiding in him.
16По том познасмо љубав што Он за нас душу своју положи: ми смо дужни полагати душе за браћу.
16Hereby perceive we the love of God, because he laid down his life for us: and we ought to lay down our lives for the brethren.
17Који дакле има богатство овог света, и види брата свог у невољи и затвори срце своје од њега, како љубав Божија стоји у њему?
17But whoso hath this world's good, and seeth his brother have need, and shutteth up his bowels of compassion from him, how dwelleth the love of God in him?
18Дечице моја! Да се не љубимо речју ни језиком, него делом и истином.
18My little children, let us not love in word, neither in tongue; but in deed and in truth.
19И по том дознајемо да смо од истине, и пред Њим тешимо срца своја.
19And hereby we know that we are of the truth, and shall assure our hearts before him.
20Јер ако нам зазире срце наше, Бог је већи од срца нашег и зна све.
20For if our heart condemn us, God is greater than our heart, and knoweth all things.
21Љубазни! Ако нам срце наше не зазире, слободу имамо пред Богом;
21Beloved, if our heart condemn us not, then have we confidence toward God.
22И шта год заиштемо, примићемо од Њега, јер заповести Његове држимо и чинимо шта је Њему угодно.
22And whatsoever we ask, we receive of him, because we keep his commandments, and do those things that are pleasing in his sight.
23И ово је заповест Његова да верујемо у име Сина Његовог Исуса Христа, и да љубимо један другог као што нам је дао заповест.
23And this is his commandment, That we should believe on the name of his Son Jesus Christ, and love one another, as he gave us commandment.
24И који држи заповести Његове у Њему стоји, и Он у њему. И по том познајемо да стоји у нама, по Духу кога нам је дао.
24And he that keepeth his commandments dwelleth in him, and he in him. And hereby we know that he abideth in us, by the Spirit which he hath given us.
