¹А Јов одговори и рече:

¹But Job answered and said,

²Слушајте добро речи моје, и то ће ми бити од вас утеха.

²Hear diligently my speech, and let this be your consolations.

³Потрпите ме да ја говорим, а кад изговорим, подсмевајте ми се.

³Suffer me that I may speak; and after that I have spoken, mock on.

⁴Еда ли се ја човеку тужим? И како не би био жалостан дух мој?

⁴As for me, is my complaint to man? and if it were so, why should not my spirit be troubled?

⁵Погледајте на ме, и дивите се, и метните руку на уста.

⁵Mark me, and be astonished, and lay your hand upon your mouth.

⁶Ја кад помислим, страх ме је, и гроза подузима тело моје.

⁶Even when I remember I am afraid, and trembling taketh hold on my flesh.

⁷Зашто безбожници живе? Старе? И богате се?

⁷Wherefore do the wicked live, become old, yea, are mighty in power?

⁸Семе њихово стоји тврдо пред њима заједно с њима, и натражје њихово пред њиховим очима.

⁸Their seed is established in their sight with them, and their offspring before their eyes.

⁹Куће су њихове на миру без страха, и прут Божји није над њима.

⁹Their houses are safe from fear, neither is the rod of God upon them.

¹⁰Бикови њихови скачу, и не промашују; краве њихове теле се, и не јалове се.

¹⁰Their bull gendereth, and faileth not; their cow calveth, and casteth not her calf.

¹¹Испуштају као стадо децу своју, и синови њихови поскакују.

¹¹They send forth their little ones like a flock, and their children dance.

¹²Подвикују уз бубањ и уз гусле, веселе се уза свиралу.

¹²They take the timbrel and harp, and rejoice at the sound of the organ.

¹³Проводе у добру дане своје, и за час силазе у гроб.

¹³They spend their days in wealth, and in a moment go down to the grave.

¹⁴А Богу кажу: Иди од нас, јер нећемо да знамо за путеве твоје.

¹⁴Therefore they say unto God, Depart from us; for we desire not the knowledge of thy ways.

¹⁵Шта је свемогући да му служимо? И каква нам је корист, да му се молимо?

¹⁵What is the Almighty, that we should serve him? and what profit should we have, if we pray unto him?

¹⁶Гле, добро њихово није у њиховој руци; намера безбожничка далеко је од мене.

¹⁶Lo, their good is not in their hand: the counsel of the wicked is far from me.

¹⁷Колико се пута гаси жижак безбожнички и долази им погибао, дели им муке у делу свом Бог?

¹⁷How oft is the candle of the wicked put out! and how oft cometh their destruction upon them! God distributeth sorrows in his anger.

¹⁸Бивају као плева на ветру, као прах који разноси вихор?

¹⁸They are as stubble before the wind, and as chaff that the storm carrieth away.

¹⁹Чува ли Бог синовима његовим погибао њихову, плаћа им да осете?

¹⁹God layeth up his iniquity for his children: he rewardeth him, and he shall know it.

²⁰Виде ли својим очима погибао своју, и пију ли гнев Свемогућег?

²⁰His eyes shall see his destruction, and he shall drink of the wrath of the Almighty.

²¹Јер шта је њима стало до куће њихове након њих, кад се број месеца њихових прекрати?

²¹For what pleasure hath he in his house after him, when the number of his months is cut off in the midst?

²²Еда ли ће Бога ко учити мудрости, који суди високима?

²²Shall any teach God knowledge? seeing he judgeth those that are high.

²³Један умире у потпуној сили својој, у миру и у срећи.

²³One dieth in his full strength, being wholly at ease and quiet.

²⁴Музилице су му пуне млека, и кости су му влажне од мождина.

²⁴His breasts are full of milk, and his bones are moistened with marrow.

²⁵А други умире ојађене душе, који није уживао добра.

²⁵And another dieth in the bitterness of his soul, and never eateth with pleasure.

²⁶Обојица леже у праху, и црви их покривају.

²⁶They shall lie down alike in the dust, and the worms shall cover them.

²⁷Ето, знам ваше мисли и судове, којима ми чините криво.

²⁷Behold, I know your thoughts, and the devices which ye wrongfully imagine against me.

²⁸Јер говорите: Где је кућа силног, и где је шатор у коме наставају безбожници?

²⁸For ye say, Where is the house of the prince? and where are the dwelling places of the wicked?

²⁹Нисте ли никад питали путника? И шта вам казаше нећете да знате,

²⁹Have ye not asked them that go by the way? and do ye not know their tokens,

³⁰Да се на дан погибли оставља задац, кад се пусти гнев.

³⁰That the wicked is reserved to the day of destruction? they shall be brought forth to the day of wrath.

³¹Ко ће га укорити у очи за живот његов? И ко ће му вратити шта је учинио?

³¹Who shall declare his way to his face? and who shall repay him what he hath done?

³²Али се износи у гробље и остаје у гомили.

³²Yet shall he be brought to the grave, and shall remain in the tomb.

³³Слатке су му груде од долине, и вуче за собом све људе, а онима који га претекоше нема броја.

³³The clods of the valley shall be sweet unto him, and every man shall draw after him, as there are innumerable before him.

³⁴Како ме, дакле, напразно тешите кад у одговорима вашим остаје превара?

³⁴How then comfort ye me in vain, seeing in your answers there remaineth falsehood?
