1ซามูเอลก็เรียนซาอูลว่า "พระเยโฮวาห์ทรงใช้ให้ข้าพเจ้ามาเจิมท่านเป็นกษัตริย์เหนืออิสราเอลประชาชนของพระองค์ เพราะฉะนั้นบัดนี้ขอท่านฟังเสียงพระวจนะของพระเยโฮวาห์
1Samuel said to Saul, “Yahweh sent me to anoint you to be king over his people, over Israel. Now therefore listen to the voice of the words of Yahweh.
2พระเยโฮวาห์จอมโยธาตรัสดังนี้ว่า `เราจะลงโทษอามาเลขในการที่สกัดทางอิสราเอลเมื่อเขาออกจากอียิปต์
2Thus says Yahweh of Armies, ‘I have marked that which Amalek did to Israel, how he set himself against him in the way, when he came up out of Egypt.
3บัดนี้ท่านจงไปโจมตีอามาเลข และทำลายบรรดาที่เขามีนั้นเสียให้สิ้นเชิง อย่าปรานีเขาเลย จงฆ่าเสียทั้งผู้ชายผู้หญิง ทั้งทารกและเด็กที่ยังดูดนม ทั้งวัว แกะ อูฐและลา'"
3Now go and strike Amalek, and utterly destroy all that they have, and don’t spare them; but kill both man and woman, infant and nursing baby, ox and sheep, camel and donkey.’”
4ดังนั้นซาอูลจึงรวบรวมพวกพลและตรวจพลที่ตำบลเทลาอิม ได้ทหารราบสองแสนคนและคนยูดาห์หนึ่งหมื่นคน
4Saul summoned the people, and numbered them in Telaim, two hundred thousand footmen, and ten thousand men of Judah.
5ซาอูลก็ทรงยกกองทัพมายังเมืองแห่งหนึ่งของคนอามาเลข และตั้งซุ่มอยู่ในหุบเขา
5Saul came to the city of Amalek, and laid wait in the valley.
6และซาอูลตรัสแก่คนเคไนต์ว่า "ไปเถิด จงแยกไปเสีย ลงไปเสียจากคนอามาเลข เกรงว่าเราจะทำลายพวกท่านไปพร้อมกับเขา เพราะท่านทั้งหลายได้แสดงความเมตตาต่อคนอิสราเอลทั้งหลายเมื่อเขายกออกมาจากอียิปต์" ดังนั้นคนเคไนต์ก็แยกออกไปจากคนอามาเลข
6Saul said to the Kenites, “Go, depart, go down from among the Amalekites, lest I destroy you with them; for you showed kindness to all the children of Israel, when they came up out of Egypt.” So the Kenites departed from among the Amalekites.
7และซาอูลก็ทรงกระทำให้คนอามาเลขพ่ายแพ้ ตั้งแต่เมืองฮาวีลาห์ไกลไปจนถึงเมืองชูร์ ซึ่งอยู่ด้านหน้าอียิปต์
7Saul struck the Amalekites, from Havilah as you go to Shur, that is before Egypt.
8ทรงจับอากักกษัตริย์ของคนอามาเลขได้ทั้งเป็น และได้ฆ่าฟันประชาชนเสียอย่างสิ้นเชิงด้วยคมดาบ
8He took Agag the king of the Amalekites alive, and utterly destroyed all the people with the edge of the sword.
9แต่ซาอูลและประชาชนได้ไว้ชีวิตอากัก และที่ดีที่สุดของแกะกับวัวและสัตว์อ้วนพีกับลูกแกะ และสิ่งดีๆทั้งหมด ไม่ยอมทำลายเสียอย่างสิ้นเชิง ทุกสิ่งที่เขาดูถูกและไร้ค่า เขาก็ทำลายเสียสิ้น
9But Saul and the people spared Agag, and the best of the sheep, and of the cattle, and of the fatlings, and the lambs, and all that was good, and wouldn’t utterly destroy them: but everything that was vile and refuse, that they destroyed utterly.
10แล้วพระวจนะแห่งพระเยโฮวาห์มายังซามูเอลว่า
10Then the word of Yahweh came to Samuel, saying,
11"เราเสียใจแล้วที่เราได้ตั้งซาอูลเป็นกษัตริย์ เพราะเขาได้หันกลับเสียจากการตามเรา และไม่ได้กระทำตามบัญญัติของเรา" และซามูเอลก็โกรธจึงร้องทูลต่อพระเยโฮวาห์คืนยังรุ่ง
11“It grieves me that I have set up Saul to be king; for he is turned back from following me, and has not performed my commandments.” Samuel was angry; and he cried to Yahweh all night.
12และซามูเอลลุกขึ้นแต่เข้าตรู่เพื่อจะไปหาซาอูลในเช้าวันนั้น และมีคนไปเรียนซามูเอลว่า "ซาอูลเสด็จมาที่ภูเขาคารเมล และดูเถิด ทรงมาสร้างที่ระลึกของพระองค์แล้วก็หันและผ่านเรื่อยไปจนลงไปถึงกิลกาล"
12Samuel rose early to meet Saul in the morning; and it was told Samuel, saying, “Saul came to Carmel, and behold, he set up a monument for himself, and turned, and passed on, and went down to Gilgal.”
13และซามูเอลก็มาหาซาอูล และซาอูลเรียนท่านว่า "ขอพระเยโฮวาห์อวยพระพรท่านเถิด ข้าพเจ้าได้ปฏิบัติตามพระบัญญัติของพระเยโฮวาห์แล้ว"
13Samuel came to Saul; and Saul said to him, “You are blessed by Yahweh! I have performed the commandment of Yahweh.”
14และซามูเอลกล่าวว่า "ถ้าอย่างนั้นเสียงแกะที่ร้องเข้าหูข้าพเจ้ากับเสียงวัวที่ข้าพเจ้าได้ยินหมายความว่ากระไร"
14Samuel said, “Then what does this bleating of the sheep in my ears, and the lowing of the cattle which I hear mean?”
15ซาอูลตอบว่า "เขาทั้งหลายได้นำมาจากคนอามาเลข เพราะพวกพลได้ไว้ชีวิตแกะและวัวที่ดีที่สุด เพื่อเป็นเครื่องสัตวบูชาแด่พระเยโฮวาห์พระเจ้าของท่าน นอกจากนั้นเราทั้งหลายก็ได้ทำลายเสียสิ้น"
15Saul said, “They have brought them from the Amalekites; for the people spared the best of the sheep and of the cattle, to sacrifice to Yahweh your God. We have utterly destroyed the rest.”
16แล้วซามูเอลจึงเรียนซาอูลว่า "ให้รอก่อน ข้าพเจ้าจะขอเรียนท่านว่า พระเยโฮวาห์ตรัสกับข้าพเจ้าอย่างไรคืนนี้" และซาอูลก็เรียนท่านว่า "จงกล่าวไปเถิด"
16Then Samuel said to Saul, “Stay, and I will tell you what Yahweh has said to me last night.” He said to him, “Say on.”
17และซามูเอลเรียนว่า "แม้ท่านเป็นแต่ผู้เล็กน้อยในสายตาของท่านเอง ท่านก็ได้รับแต่งตั้งให้เป็นประมุขของบรรดาตระกูลอิสราเอล และพระเยโฮวาห์ก็ทรงเจิมท่านไว้เป็นกษัตริย์เหนืออิสราเอลมิใช่หรือ
17Samuel said, “Though you were little in your own sight, weren’t you made the head of the tribes of Israel? Yahweh anointed you king over Israel;
18และพระเยโฮวาห์ทรงใช้ให้ท่านออกไปประกอบกิจ ตรัสว่า `จงไปทำลายคนอามาเลขคนบาปหนาเสียให้สิ้นเชิง และต่อสู้กับเขาจนกว่าเขาจะถูกผลาญเสียหมด'
18and Yahweh sent you on a journey, and said, ‘Go, and utterly destroy the sinners the Amalekites, and fight against them until they are consumed.’
19เหตุใดท่านจึงไม่เชื่อฟังพระสุรเสียงของพระเยโฮวาห์ แต่ไปฉกฉวยทรัพย์สิ่งของต่างๆ และกระทำชั่วในสายพระเนตรของพระเยโฮวาห์"
19Why then didn’t you obey the voice of Yahweh, but took the spoils, and did that which was evil in the sight of Yahweh?”
20และซาอูลเรียนซามูเอลว่า "ข้าพเจ้าได้เชื่อฟังพระสุรเสียงของพระเยโฮวาห์แล้ว ข้าพเจ้าได้ไปประกอบกิจตามที่พระเยโฮวาห์ทรงใช้ข้าพเจ้าไป ข้าพเจ้าได้คุมตัวอากักกษัตริย์แห่งคนอามาเลขมา และข้าพเจ้าก็ได้ทำลายคนอามาเลขเสียอย่างสิ้นเชิง
20Saul said to Samuel, “But I have obeyed the voice of Yahweh, and have gone the way which Yahweh sent me, and have brought Agag the king of Amalek, and have utterly destroyed the Amalekites.
21แต่พวกพลได้เก็บส่วนของทรัพย์เชลยรวมทั้งแกะและวัว ส่วนที่ดีที่สุดจากของซึ่งกำหนดให้ทำลายเสียให้สิ้นเชิงนั้น เพื่อนำมาเป็นเครื่องสัตวบูชาแด่พระเยโฮวาห์พระเจ้าของท่านที่ในเมืองกิลกาล"
21But the people took of the spoil, sheep and cattle, the chief of the devoted things, to sacrifice to Yahweh your God in Gilgal.”
22และซามูเอลกล่าวว่า "พระเยโฮวาห์ทรงพอพระทัยในเครื่องเผาบูชา และเครื่องสัตวบูชามากเท่ากับการที่จะเชื่อฟังพระสุรเสียงของพระเยโฮวาห์หรือ ดูเถิด ที่จะเชื่อฟังก็ดีกว่าเครื่องสัตวบูชา และซึ่งจะสดับฟังก็ดีกว่าไขมันของบรรดาแกะผู้
22Samuel said, “Has Yahweh as great delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices, as in obeying the voice of Yahweh? Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice, and to listen than the fat of rams.
23เพราะการกบฏก็เป็นเหมือนบาปแห่งการถือฤกษ์ถือยาม และความดื้อดึงก็เป็นเหมือนความชั่วช้าและการไหว้รูปเคารพ เพราะเหตุที่ท่านทอดทิ้งพระวจนะของพระเยโฮวาห์ พระองค์จึงทรงถอดท่านออกจากตำแหน่งกษัตริย์"
23For rebellion is as the sin of witchcraft, and stubbornness is as idolatry and teraphim. Because you have rejected the word of Yahweh, he has also rejected you from being king.”
24และซาอูลเรียนซามูเอลว่า "ข้าพเจ้าได้กระทำบาปแล้ว เพราะข้าพเจ้าได้ละเมิดพระบัญญัติของพระเยโฮวาห์และคำของท่าน เพราะข้าพเจ้าเกรงกลัวประชาชนและยอมฟังเสียงของเขาทั้งหลาย
24Saul said to Samuel, “I have sinned; for I have transgressed the commandment of Yahweh, and your words, because I feared the people, and obeyed their voice.
25เพราะฉะนั้นบัดนี้ขอท่านโปรดอภัยบาปของข้าพเจ้า และขอกลับไปกับข้าพเจ้า เพื่อข้าพเจ้าจะได้นมัสการพระเยโฮวาห์"
25Now therefore, please pardon my sin, and turn again with me, that I may worship Yahweh.”
26และซามูเอลเรียนซาอูลว่า "ข้าพเจ้าจะไม่กลับไปกับท่าน เพราะท่านทอดทิ้งพระวจนะของพระเยโฮวาห์ และพระเยโฮวาห์ทรงถอดท่านจากเป็นกษัตริย์เหนืออิสราเอล"
26Samuel said to Saul, “I will not return with you; for you have rejected the word of Yahweh, and Yahweh has rejected you from being king over Israel.”
27พอซามูเอลหันจะไป ซาอูลก็ได้ยึดชายเสื้อของท่านไว้และเสื้อนั้นก็ขาด
27As Samuel turned about to go away, Saul grabbed the skirt of his robe, and it tore.
28และซามูเอลเรียนท่านว่า "ในวันนี้พระเยโฮวาห์ได้ทรงฉีกราชอาณาจักรอิสราเอลเสียจากท่านแล้ว และทรงมอบให้แก่ผู้อื่นที่ดีกว่าท่าน
28Samuel said to him, “Yahweh has torn the kingdom of Israel from you this day, and has given it to a neighbor of yours who is better than you.
29ยิ่งกว่านี่ผู้ทรงเป็นกำลังของอิสราเอลจะไม่มุสาหรือกลับใจ เพราะว่าพระองค์หาใช่มนุษย์ที่จะกลับใจไม่"
29Also the Strength of Israel will not lie nor repent; for he is not a man, that he should repent.”
30ฝ่ายซาอูลจึงเรียนว่า "ข้าพเจ้าได้กระทำบาปแล้ว แต่บัดนี้ขอท่านให้เกียรติแก่ข้าพเจ้า ต่อหน้าพวกผู้ใหญ่ของประชาชนของข้าพเจ้า และต่อหน้าคนอิสราเอล ขอกลับไปกับข้าพเจ้าเพื่อข้าพเจ้าจะได้นมัสการพระเยโฮวาห์พระเจ้าของท่าน"
30Then he said, “I have sinned: yet please honor me now before the elders of my people, and before Israel, and come back with me, that I may worship Yahweh your God.”
31ซามูเอลจึงกลับตามซาอูลไป และซาอูลก็นมัสการพระเยโฮวาห์
31So Samuel went back with Saul; and Saul worshiped Yahweh.
32แล้วซามูเอลกล่าวว่า "ท่านทั้งหลายจงนำอากักกษัตริย์ของคนอามาเลขมาให้ข้าพเจ้า" และอากักก็เข้ามาหาท่านด้วยหน้าตาเบิกบาน อากักกล่าวว่า "ความขมขื่นแห่งความตายก็ผ่านพ้นไปแน่แล้ว"
32Then Samuel said, “Bring here to me Agag the king of the Amalekites!” Agag came to him cheerfully. Agag said, “Surely the bitterness of death is past.”
33ฝ่ายซามูเอลกล่าวว่า "ดาบของท่านได้กระทำให้ผู้หญิงไร้บุตรฉันใด มารดาของท่านจะไร้บุตรในหมู่พวกผู้หญิงทั้งหลายฉันนั้น" และซามูเอลก็ฟันอากักเสียเป็นท่อนๆต่อพระพักตร์พระเยโฮวาห์ที่ในกิลกาล
33Samuel said, “As your sword has made women childless, so your mother will be childless among women!” Samuel cut Agag in pieces before Yahweh in Gilgal.
34ฝ่ายซามูเอลก็ไปรามาห์ และซาอูลก็เสด็จขึ้นไปยังวังของพระองค์ที่กิเบอาห์แห่งซาอูล
34Then Samuel went to Ramah; and Saul went up to his house to Gibeah of Saul.
35และซามูเอลไม่มาพบซาอูลอีกจนวันสิ้นชีพ แต่ซามูเอลได้โศกเศร้าเพราะซาอูล และพระเยโฮวาห์ทรงกลับพระทัยที่ได้ทรงกระทำให้ซาอูลเป็นกษัตริย์เหนืออิสราเอล
35Samuel came no more to see Saul until the day of his death; for Samuel mourned for Saul: and Yahweh grieved that he had made Saul king over Israel.
