1เยโฮชาฟัทกษัตริย์แห่งยูดาห์เสด็จกลับไปโดยสวัสดิภาพถึงพระราชวังของพระองค์ในกรุงเยรูซาเล็ม
1Jehoshaphat the king of Judah returned to his house in peace to Jerusalem.
2แต่เยฮูบุตรชายฮานานีผู้ทำนายได้ออกไปเฝ้าพระองค์ ทูลกษัตริย์เยโฮชาฟัทว่า "ควรที่พระองค์จะช่วยคนอธรรมและรักผู้ที่เกลียดชังพระเยโฮวาห์หรือ เพราะเรื่องนี้พระพิโรธของพระเยโฮวาห์ได้ออกมาถึงพระองค์
2Jehu the son of Hanani the seer went out to meet him, and said to king Jehoshaphat, “Should you help the wicked, and love those who hate Yahweh? Because of this, wrath is on you from before Yahweh.
3อย่างไรก็ดีพระองค์ทรงพบความดีในพระองค์บ้าง เพราะพระองค์ได้ทำลายบรรดาเสารูปเคารพเสียจากแผ่นดิน และได้มุ่งพระทัยแสวงหาพระเจ้า"
3Nevertheless there are good things found in you, in that you have put away the Asheroth out of the land, and have set your heart to seek God.”
4เยโฮชาฟัทประทับที่เยรูซาเล็ม และพระองค์ทรงออกไปท่ามกลางประชาชนอีก ตั้งแต่เบเออร์เชบาถึงถิ่นเทือกเขาเอฟราอิม และนำเขาทั้งหลายกลับมายังพระเยโฮวาห์พระเจ้าแห่งบรรพบุรุษของเขา
4Jehoshaphat lived at Jerusalem: and he went out again among the people from Beersheba to the hill country of Ephraim, and brought them back to Yahweh, the God of their fathers.
5พระองค์ทรงตั้งผู้วินิจฉัยในแผ่นดินนั้น ในหัวเมืองที่มีป้อมทั้งสิ้นของยูดาห์ ทีละหัวเมือง
5He set judges in the land throughout all the fortified cities of Judah, city by city,
6และตรัสกับผู้วินิจฉัยเหล่านั้นว่า "จงพิจารณาสิ่งที่ท่านทั้งหลายจะกระทำ เพราะท่านมิได้พิพากษาเพื่อมนุษย์แต่เพื่อพระเยโฮวาห์ พระองค์ทรงสถิตกับท่านในการพิพากษา
6and said to the judges, “Consider what you do: for you don’t judge for man, but for Yahweh; and he is with you in the judgment.
7ฉะนั้นจงให้ความยำเกรงพระเยโฮวาห์อยู่เหนือท่าน จงระมัดระวังสิ่งที่ท่านกระทำ เพราะพระเยโฮวาห์พระเจ้าของเราไม่มีความชั่วช้า ไม่เห็นแก่หน้าคนใด และไม่มีการรับสินบน"
7Now therefore let the fear of Yahweh be on you. Take heed and do it: for there is no iniquity with Yahweh our God, nor respect of persons, nor taking of bribes.”
8ยิ่งกว่านั้นอีก ในเยรูซาเล็ม เยโฮชาฟัททรงตั้งคนเลวี และปุโรหิตบ้าง กับประมุขของบรรพบุรุษแห่งอิสราเอลบ้าง เพื่อจะให้การพิพากษาแห่งพระเยโฮวาห์ และวินิจฉัยคดีที่โต้แย้งกัน เขาทั้งหลายมีตำแหน่งในเยรูซาเล็ม
8Moreover in Jerusalem Jehoshaphat appointed Levites and priests, and of the heads of the fathers’ households of Israel, for the judgment of Yahweh, and for controversies. They returned to Jerusalem.
9และพระองค์ทรงกำชับเขาทั้งหลายว่า "ท่านทั้งหลายจงกระทำการนี้ด้วยความยำเกรงพระเยโฮวาห์ ด้วยความสัตย์ซื่อ และด้วยสิ้นสุดใจของท่าน
9He commanded them, saying, “Thus you shall do in the fear of Yahweh, faithfully, and with a perfect heart.
10เมื่อมีคดีมาถึงท่านจากพี่น้องของท่านผู้อาศัยอยู่ในหัวเมืองของเขาทั้งหลาย เกี่ยวกับเรื่องฆ่าฟันกัน พระราชบัญญัติหรือพระบัญญัติ กฎเกณฑ์หรือคำตัดสิน ท่านทั้งหลายก็ควรจะตักเตือนเขา เพื่อเขาจะไม่ละเมิดต่อพระเยโฮวาห์ พระพิโรธจึงจะไม่มาเหนือท่าน และพี่น้องของท่าน ท่านจงกระทำเช่นนี้ และท่านจะไม่ละเมิด
10Whenever any controversy shall come to you from your brothers who dwell in their cities, between blood and blood, between law and commandment, statutes and ordinances, you shall warn them, that they not be guilty towards Yahweh, and so wrath come on you and on your brothers. Do this, and you shall not be guilty.
11และดูเถิด อามาริยาห์ปุโรหิตใหญ่ก็อยู่เหนือท่านในสรรพกิจของพระเยโฮวาห์ และเศบาดิยาห์บุตรชายอิชมาเอลเจ้านายของวงศ์วานยูดาห์ก็อยู่เหนือท่านในสรรพกิจของกษัตริย์ และเลวีจะเป็นเจ้าหน้าที่ปรนนิบัติท่าน จงประกอบกิจอย่างแกล้วกล้า และขอพระเยโฮวาห์ทรงสถิตอยู่กับผู้เที่ยงธรรม"
11Behold, Amariah the chief priest is over you in all matters of Yahweh; and Zebadiah the son of Ishmael, the ruler of the house of Judah, in all the king’s matters: also the Levites shall be officers before you. Deal courageously, and may Yahweh be with the good.”
