1แต่ข้าพเจ้าได้ตั้งใจไว้ว่า เมื่อมีความทุกข์อยู่ จะไม่มาหาพวกท่านอีก
1But I determined this for myself, that I would not come to you again in sorrow.
2เพราะถ้าข้าพเจ้าทำให้พวกท่านเป็นทุกข์ ใครเล่าจะทำให้ข้าพเจ้ามีความยินดี ก็คือคนที่ข้าพเจ้าทำให้มีความทุกข์นั่นแหละ
2For if I make you sorry, then who will make me glad but he who is made sorry by me?
3และข้าพเจ้าได้เขียนข้อความนั้นมาถึงท่าน เพื่อว่าเมื่อข้าพเจ้ามา ข้าพเจ้าจะไม่ได้รับความทุกข์จากคนเหล่านั้น ที่ควรจะทำให้ข้าพเจ้ามีความชื่นชมยินดี ข้าพเจ้าไว้ใจในพวกท่านว่า ความยินดีของข้าพเจ้าก็เป็นความยินดีของท่านด้วย
3And I wrote this very thing to you, so that, when I came, I wouldn’t have sorrow from them of whom I ought to rejoice; having confidence in you all, that my joy would be shared by all of you.
4เพราะว่าข้าพเจ้าเขียนถึงท่านเพราะข้าพเจ้ามีความทุกข์ระทมใจมาก และน้ำตาไหลมากมาย มิใช่เพื่อจะทำให้ท่านเป็นทุกข์ แต่เพื่อจะให้ท่านรู้จักความรักอย่างมากมายซึ่งข้าพเจ้ามีต่อท่านทั้งหลาย
4For out of much affliction and anguish of heart I wrote to you with many tears, not that you should be made sorry, but that you might know the love that I have so abundantly for you.
5ถ้าผู้ใดเป็นต้นเหตุทำให้เกิดความทุกข์ ผู้นั้นก็มิได้ทำให้ข้าพเจ้าเป็นทุกข์แต่คนเดียว แต่ได้ทำให้พวกท่านเป็นทุกข์บ้างด้วย เพราะข้าพเจ้าไม่อยากจะปรักปรำพวกท่านจนเหลือเกิน
5But if any has caused sorrow, he has caused sorrow, not to me, but in part (that I not press too heavily) to you all.
6ที่คนส่วนมากได้ลงโทษคนเช่นนั้นก็พอสมควรแล้ว
6Sufficient to such a one is this punishment which was inflicted by the many;
7ฉะนั้นท่านทั้งหลายควรจะยกโทษให้ผู้นั้น และปลอบประโลมใจเขาต่างหาก กลัวว่าคนเช่นนั้นจะจมลงในความทุกข์เหลือล้น
7so that on the contrary you should rather forgive him and comfort him, lest by any means such a one should be swallowed up with his excessive sorrow.
8ดังนั้นข้าพเจ้าขอวิงวอนท่านให้ยืนยันความรักต่อคนนั้นใหม่
8Therefore I beg you to confirm your love toward him.
9นี่คือเหตุที่ข้าพเจ้าได้เขียนถึงท่าน หวังจะลองใจท่านดูว่า ท่านจะยอมเชื่อฟังทุกประการหรือไม่
9For to this end I also wrote, that I might know the proof of you, whether you are obedient in all things.
10ถ้าพวกท่านจะยกโทษให้ผู้ใด ข้าพเจ้าก็ยกโทษให้ผู้นั้นด้วย ถ้าข้าพเจ้ายกโทษให้คนใดๆ ข้าพเจ้าได้ยกโทษให้ผู้นั้นเพราะเห็นแก่ท่านทั้งหลายต่อพระพักตร์พระคริสต์
10Now I also forgive whomever you forgive anything. For if indeed I have forgiven anything, I have forgiven that one for your sakes in the presence of Christ,
11เพื่อไม่ให้ซาตานมีชัยเหนือเรา เพราะเรารู้กลอุบายของมันแล้ว
11that no advantage may be gained over us by Satan; for we are not ignorant of his schemes.
12นอกจากนี้เมื่อข้าพเจ้าไปถึงเมืองโตรอัสเพื่อประกาศข่าวประเสริฐของพระคริสต์นั้น มีประตูเปิดให้แก่ข้าพเจ้าโดยองค์พระผู้เป็นเจ้า
12Now when I came to Troas for the Good News of Christ, and when a door was opened to me in the Lord,
13ข้าพเจ้ายังไม่มีความสบายใจเลย เพราะข้าพเจ้าไม่ได้พบทิตัสน้องของข้าพเจ้าที่นั่น ข้าพเจ้าจึงลาพวกนั้นเดินทางไปยังแคว้นมาซิโดเนีย
13I had no relief for my spirit, because I didn’t find Titus, my brother, but taking my leave of them, I went out into Macedonia.
14แต่ขอบพระคุณพระเจ้าผู้ทรงให้เรามีชัยเสมอโดยพระคริสต์ และทรงโปรดประทานกลิ่นหอมแห่งความรู้ของพระองค์ให้ปรากฏด้วยตัวเราทุกแห่ง
14Now thanks be to God, who always leads us in triumph in Christ, and reveals through us the sweet aroma of his knowledge in every place.
15เพราะว่าเราเป็นกลิ่นอันหอมหวานของพระคริสต์จำเพาะพระเจ้า ในหมู่คนที่รอด และในหมู่คนที่พินาศ
15For we are a sweet aroma of Christ to God, in those who are saved, and in those who perish;
16ฝ่ายหนึ่งเป็นกลิ่นแห่งความตายซึ่งนำไปสู่ความตาย และอีกฝ่ายหนึ่งเป็นกลิ่นหอมแห่งชีวิตซึ่งนำไปสู่ชีวิต ใครเล่าจะมีความสามารถเหมาะสมกับพันธกิจเหล่านี้
16to the one a stench from death to death; to the other a sweet aroma from life to life. Who is sufficient for these things?
17เพราะว่า เราไม่เหมือนคนเป็นอันมากที่ทำให้พระวจนะของพระเจ้าเสื่อมเสีย แต่ว่าเราประกาศโดยอาศัยพระคริสต์ด้วยความจริงใจ อย่างคนที่มาจากพระเจ้าและอยู่ในสายพระเนตรของพระเจ้า
17For we are not as so many, peddling the word of God. But as of sincerity, but as of God, in the sight of God, we speak in Christ.
