¹"บัดนี้ โอ คนอิสราเอลทั้งหลาย จงฟังกฎเกณฑ์และคำตัดสินซึ่งข้าพเจ้าสอนท่านทั้งหลาย จงประพฤติตามเพื่อท่านทั้งหลายจะมีชีวิตอยู่ และเข้าไปยึดครองแผ่นดินซึ่งพระเยโฮวาห์พระเจ้าแห่งบรรพบุรุษของท่านประทานแก่ท่าน

¹Now, Israel, listen to the statutes and to the ordinances, which I teach you, to do them; that you may live, and go in and possess the land which Yahweh, the God of your fathers, gives you.

²ท่านทั้งหลายอย่าเสริมเติมคำที่ข้าพเจ้าได้บัญชาท่านไว้และอย่าตัดออก เพื่อท่านทั้งหลายจะรักษาพระบัญญัติของพระเยโฮวาห์พระเจ้าของท่าน ซึ่งข้าพเจ้าได้บัญชาท่าน

²You shall not add to the word which I command you, neither shall you diminish from it, that you may keep the commandments of Yahweh your God which I command you.

³นัยน์ตาของท่านทั้งหลายได้เห็นการซึ่งพระเยโฮวาห์ทรงกระทำ เพราะเหตุพระบาอัลเปโอร์แล้ว ด้วยว่าพระเยโฮวาห์พระเจ้าของท่านทั้งหลายได้ทรงทำลายบรรดาคนที่ติดตามพระบาอัลเปโอร์จากท่ามกลางท่าน

³Your eyes have seen what Yahweh did because of Baal Peor; for all the men who followed Baal Peor, Yahweh your God has destroyed them from the midst of you.

⁴แต่ท่านทั้งหลายผู้ได้ยึดพระเยโฮวาห์พระเจ้าของท่านทั้งหลายมั่นคงอยู่ทุกคนได้มีชีวิตอยู่ถึงวันนี้

⁴But you who were faithful to Yahweh your God are all alive this day.

⁵ดูเถิด ข้าพเจ้าได้สั่งสอนกฎเกณฑ์และคำตัดสินแก่ท่าน ดังที่พระเยโฮวาห์พระเจ้าของข้าพเจ้าได้ทรงบัญชาข้าพเจ้าไว้ เพื่อท่านทั้งหลายจะกระทำตามในแผ่นดินซึ่งท่านทั้งหลายกำลังเข้าไปยึดครองนั้น

⁵Behold, I have taught you statutes and ordinances, even as Yahweh my God commanded me, that you should do so in the midst of the land where you go in to possess it.

⁶จงรักษากฎเหล่านั้นและกระทำตาม เพราะนี่เป็นสติปัญญาของท่านทั้งหลายและความเข้าใจของท่านทั้งหลายท่ามกลางสายตาของชนชาติทั้งหลาย ซึ่งจะได้ยินถึงกฎเกณฑ์เหล่านี้แล้วเขาจะกล่าวว่า `แน่ทีเดียวประชาชาติใหญ่นี้เป็นชนชาติที่มีปัญญาและความเข้าใจ'

⁶Keep therefore and do them; for this is your wisdom and your understanding in the sight of the peoples, who shall hear all these statutes, and say, “Surely this great nation is a wise and understanding people.”

⁷เพราะมีประชาชาติใหญ่ชาติใดเล่าซึ่งมีพระเจ้าอยู่ใกล้ตน อย่างกับพระเยโฮวาห์พระเจ้าของพวกเราทรงอยู่ใกล้เราในสิ่งสารพัดเมื่อเราร้องทูลต่อพระองค์

⁷For what great nation is there, that has a god so near to them, as Yahweh our God is whenever we call on him?

⁸และมีประชาชาติใหญ่ชาติใดเล่า ซึ่งมีกฎเกณฑ์และคำตัดสินอันชอบธรรมอย่างกับพระราชบัญญัติทั้งหมดนี้ ซึ่งข้าพเจ้าได้ตั้งไว้ต่อหน้าท่านทั้งหลายในวันนี้

⁸What great nation is there, that has statutes and ordinances so righteous as all this law, which I set before you this day?

⁹แต่จงระวังตัว และรักษาจิตวิญญาณของตัวให้ดี เกรงว่าพวกท่านจะลืมสิ่งซึ่งนัยน์ตาได้เห็นนั้น และเกรงว่าสิ่งเหล่านั้นจะประลาตเสียจากใจของท่านตลอดวันคืนแห่งชีวิตของพวกท่าน

⁹Only take heed to yourself, and keep your soul diligently, lest you forget the things which your eyes saw, and lest they depart from your heart all the days of your life; but make them known to your children and your children’s children;

¹⁰ในวันนั้นที่พวกท่านได้ยืนอยู่ต่อพระพักตร์พระเยโฮวาห์พระเจ้าของพวกท่านที่โฮเรบ พระเยโฮวาห์ตรัสกับข้าพเจ้าว่า `จงรวบประชาชนให้เข้ามาหน้าเรา เพื่อเราจะให้เขาได้ยินคำของเรา เพื่อเขาทั้งหลายจะได้ฝึกตนที่จะยำเกรงเราตลอดวันคืนที่เขามีชีวิตอยู่ในโลก และเพื่อว่าเขาจะได้สอนลูกหลานของเขาด้วย'

¹⁰the day that you stood before Yahweh your God in Horeb, when Yahweh said to me, “Assemble me the people, and I will make them hear my words, that they may learn to fear me all the days that they live on the earth, and that they may teach their children.”

¹¹ท่านทั้งหลายได้เข้ามาใกล้ยืนอยู่ที่เชิงภูเขา และภูเขานั้นมีเพลิงลุกขึ้นถึงท้องฟ้า มีความมืด เมฆ และความมืดคลุ้มคลุมอยู่

¹¹You came near and stood under the mountain; and the mountain burned with fire to the heart of the sky, with darkness, cloud, and thick darkness.

¹²แล้วพระเยโฮวาห์ตรัสกับท่านทั้งหลายออกมาจากท่ามกลางเพลิง ท่านทั้งหลายได้ยินสำเนียงพระวจนะ แต่ไม่เห็นรูปสัณฐาน มีแต่ได้ยินพระสุรเสียงเท่านั้น

¹²Yahweh spoke to you out of the midst of the fire: you heard the voice of words, but you saw no form; you only heard a voice.

¹³และพระองค์ทรงประกาศพันธสัญญาของพระองค์แก่ท่าน ซึ่งพระองค์ทรงบัญชาให้ท่านทั้งหลายปฏิบัติตามคือ พระบัญญัติสิบประการ และพระองค์ทรงจารึกพระบัญญัตินั้นไว้บนศิลาสองแผ่น

¹³He declared to you his covenant, which he commanded you to perform, even the ten commandments; and he wrote them on two tables of stone.

¹⁴ในครั้งนั้นพระเยโฮวาห์ทรงบัญชาให้ข้าพเจ้าสั่งสอนกฎเกณฑ์และคำตัดสินแก่ท่านทั้งหลาย เพื่อท่านทั้งหลายจะได้กระทำตามในแผ่นดินซึ่งท่านกำลังจะข้ามไปยึดครองนั้น

¹⁴Yahweh commanded me at that time to teach you statutes and ordinances, that you might do them in the land where you go over to possess it.

¹⁵เหตุฉะนั้นท่านทั้งหลายจงระวังตัวให้ดี เพราะในวันนั้นพวกท่านไม่เห็นสัณฐานอันใด เมื่อพระเยโฮวาห์ตรัสกับท่านทั้งหลายที่โฮเรบจากท่ามกลางเพลิง

¹⁵Take therefore good heed to yourselves; for you saw no kind of form on the day that Yahweh spoke to you in Horeb out of the midst of the fire.

¹⁶เกรงว่าท่านทั้งหลายจะหลงทำรูปเคารพแกะสลักสำหรับตัวท่านทั้งหลายเป็นสัณฐานสิ่งหนึ่งสิ่งใด เป็นรูปตัวผู้หรือตัวเมีย

¹⁶Lest you corrupt yourselves, and make yourself an engraved image in the form of any figure, the likeness of male or female,

¹⁷เหมือนสัตว์เดียรัจฉานอย่างใดในโลก เหมือนนกที่มีปีกบินไปในอากาศ

¹⁷the likeness of any animal that is on the earth, the likeness of any winged bird that flies in the sky,

¹⁸เหมือนสิ่งใดๆที่คลานอยู่บนดิน เหมือนปลาอย่างใดที่อยู่ในน้ำใต้แผ่นดินโลก

¹⁸the likeness of anything that creeps on the ground, the likeness of any fish that is in the water under the earth;

¹⁹เกรงว่าพวกท่านเงยหน้าขึ้นดูท้องฟ้าและเมื่อท่านเห็นดวงอาทิตย์ ดวงจันทร์ และดวงดาว คือบริวารของท้องฟ้า พวกท่านจะถูกเหนี่ยวรั้งให้นมัสการและปรนนิบัติสิ่งเหล่านั้น เป็นสิ่งซึ่งพระเยโฮวาห์พระเจ้าของพวกท่านทรงแบ่งแก่ชนชาติทั้งหลายทั่วใต้ฟ้าทั้งสิ้น

¹⁹and lest you lift up your eyes to the sky, and when you see the sun and the moon and the stars, even all the army of the sky, you are drawn away and worship them, and serve them, which Yahweh your God has allotted to all the peoples under the whole sky.

²⁰แต่พระเยโฮวาห์ทรงเลือกท่านทั้งหลายและนำท่านออกมาจากเตาเหล็ก คือจากอียิปต์ ให้เป็นประชาชนในกรรมสิทธิ์ของพระองค์ อย่างที่เป็นอยู่ทุกวันนี้

²⁰But Yahweh has taken you, and brought you forth out of the iron furnace, out of Egypt, to be to him a people of inheritance, as at this day.

²¹ยิ่งกว่านั้น เพราะท่านทั้งหลายเป็นเหตุ พระเยโฮวาห์ทรงพระพิโรธต่อข้าพเจ้า และทรงปฏิญาณว่าข้าพเจ้าจะไม่ได้ข้ามแม่น้ำจอร์แดน และข้าพเจ้าจะไม่ได้เข้าไปในแผ่นดินดีซึ่งพระเยโฮวาห์พระเจ้าของท่านทั้งหลายประทานแก่ท่านให้เป็นมรดก

²¹Furthermore Yahweh was angry with me for your sakes, and swore that I should not go over the Jordan, and that I should not go in to that good land, which Yahweh your God gives you for an inheritance:

²²แต่ข้าพเจ้าจะตายเสียในแผ่นดินนี้ ข้าพเจ้าจะไม่ได้ข้ามแม่น้ำจอร์แดน แต่ท่านทั้งหลายจะได้ข้ามไป และถือแผ่นดินดีนั้นเป็นกรรมสิทธิ์

²²but I must die in this land, I must not go over the Jordan; but you shall go over, and possess that good land.

²³จงระวังตัวให้ดี เกรงว่าท่านทั้งหลายจะลืมพันธสัญญาของพระเยโฮวาห์พระเจ้าของท่านทั้งหลาย ซึ่งพระองค์ทรงกระทำไว้แก่ท่าน และสร้างรูปเคารพสลักเป็นสัณฐานสิ่งหนึ่งสิ่งใดซึ่งพระเยโฮวาห์พระเจ้าของท่านทั้งหลายทรงห้ามไว้นั้น

²³Take heed to yourselves, lest you forget the covenant of Yahweh your God, which he made with you, and make you an engraved image in the form of anything which Yahweh your God has forbidden you.

²⁴เพราะว่าพระเยโฮวาห์พระเจ้าของท่านเป็นเพลิงที่เผาผลาญ เป็นพระเจ้าผู้ทรงหวงแหน

²⁴For Yahweh your God is a devouring fire, a jealous God.

²⁵เมื่อพวกท่านมีลูกและมีหลานและได้อยู่ในแผ่นดินนั้นมาช้านาน และท่านกระทำตัวให้เสื่อมทรามโดยการทำรูปเคารพสลักเป็นสัญฐานสิ่งใด และกระทำชั่วในสายพระเนตรพระเยโฮวาห์พระเจ้าของท่านทั้งหลาย ซึ่งเป็นการยั่วยุให้พระองค์ทรงกริ้วโกรธ

²⁵When you shall father children, and children’s children, and you shall have been long in the land, and shall corrupt yourselves, and make an engraved image in the form of anything, and shall do that which is evil in the sight of Yahweh your God, to provoke him to anger;

²⁶ข้าพเจ้าขออัญเชิญฟ้าและดินมาเป็นพยานกล่าวโทษท่านในวันนี้ว่า ท่านทั้งหลายจะพินาศอย่างสิ้นเชิงจากแผ่นดิน ซึ่งท่านทั้งหลายกำลังจะข้ามแม่น้ำจอร์แดนไปยึดครองนั้น ท่านจะไม่ได้อยู่ในแผ่นดินนั้นนาน แต่ท่านจะถูกทำลายอย่างสิ้นเชิง

²⁶I call heaven and earth to witness against you this day, that you shall soon utterly perish from off the land whereunto you go over the Jordan to possess it; you shall not prolong your days on it, but shall utterly be destroyed.

²⁷และพระเยโฮวาห์จะทรงกระทำให้ท่านทั้งหลายกระจัดกระจายไปอยู่ท่ามกลางชนชาติทั้งหลาย และท่านทั้งหลายจะเหลือจำนวนน้อยในท่ามกลางประชาชาติซึ่งพระเยโฮวาห์ทรงขับไล่ให้ท่านเข้าไปอยู่นั้น

²⁷Yahweh will scatter you among the peoples, and you shall be left few in number among the nations, where Yahweh shall lead you away.

²⁸ณ ที่นั่นท่านทั้งหลายจะปรนนิบัติพระที่ทำด้วยไม้และศิลา เป็นงานที่มือคนทำไว้ ซึ่งไม่ดู ไม่ฟัง ไม่รับประทาน ไม่ดมกลิ่น

²⁸There you shall serve gods, the work of men’s hands, wood and stone, which neither see, nor hear, nor eat, nor smell.

²⁹แต่ ณ ที่นั่นแหละท่านทั้งหลายจะแสวงหาพระเยโฮวาห์พระเจ้าของท่าน ถ้าพวกท่านค้นหาพระองค์ด้วยสุดจิตและสุดใจ พวกท่านจะพบพระองค์

²⁹But from there you shall seek Yahweh your God, and you shall find him, when you search after him with all your heart and with all your soul.

³⁰เมื่อพวกท่านมีความทุกข์ลำบาก ซึ่งสิ่งสารพัดเหล่านี้มาถึงท่าน ในกาลภายหลัง ถ้าพวกท่านจะกลับมาหาพระเยโฮวาห์พระเจ้าของท่าน และเชื่อฟังพระสุรเสียงของพระองค์

³⁰When you are in oppression, and all these things have come on you, in the latter days you shall return to Yahweh your God, and listen to his voice:

³¹(เพราะว่าพระเยโฮวาห์พระเจ้าของท่านทั้งหลายเป็นพระเจ้าผู้ทรงกอปรด้วยพระเมตตา) พระองค์จะไม่ทรงละทิ้งหรือทำลายท่านทั้งหลาย หรือลืมพันธสัญญาซึ่งพระองค์ทรงกระทำไว้กับบรรพบุรุษของท่านโดยการปฏิญาณ

³¹for Yahweh your God is a merciful God; he will not fail you, neither destroy you, nor forget the covenant of your fathers which he swore to them.

³²เพราะบัดนี้จงถามดูเถอะว่า ในกาลวันที่ล่วงมาแล้วนั้น คือวันที่อยู่ก่อนท่านทั้งหลาย ตั้งแต่วันที่พระเจ้าทรงสร้างมนุษย์ไว้บนโลก และถามดูจากฟ้าข้างนี้ถึงฟ้าข้างโน้นว่า เคยมีเรื่องใหญ่โตอย่างนี้เกิดขึ้นบ้างหรือ หรือเคยได้ยินถึงเรื่องอย่างนี้บ้างหรือ

³²For ask now of the days that are past, which were before you, since the day that God created man on the earth, and from the one end of the sky to the other, whether there has been anything as this great thing is, or has been heard like it?

³³มีชนชาติใดได้ยินพระสุรเสียงของพระเจ้าตรัสออกมาจากท่ามกลางเพลิง ดังที่ท่านได้ยินและยังมีชีวิตอยู่ได้

³³Did a people ever hear the voice of God speaking out of the midst of the fire, as you have heard, and live?

³⁴หรือมีพระเจ้าองค์ใดได้ทรงเพียรพยายามไปนำประชาชาติหนึ่งจากท่ามกลางอีกประชาชาติหนึ่งด้วยการลองใจ ด้วยการทำหมายสำคัญ ด้วยการมหัศจรรย์ ด้วยการสงคราม ด้วยพระหัตถ์ทรงฤทธิ์ และด้วยพระกรที่ทรงเหยียดออก และด้วยเหตุน่ากลัวยิ่ง ตามสิ่งสารพัดซึ่งพระเยโฮวาห์พระเจ้าของท่านทั้งหลายทรงกระทำเพื่อท่านในอียิปต์ต่อหน้าต่อตาท่าน

³⁴Or has God tried to go and take a nation for himself from the midst of another nation, by trials, by signs, and by wonders, and by war, and by a mighty hand, and by an outstretched arm, and by great terrors, according to all that Yahweh your God did for you in Egypt before your eyes?

³⁵ที่ได้ทรงสำแดงแก่ท่านทั้งหลายนั้นก็เพื่อท่านจะได้ทราบว่า พระเยโฮวาห์ทรงเป็นพระเจ้า นอกจากพระองค์แล้ว ไม่มีพระเจ้าอื่นใดอีกเลย

³⁵It was shown to you so that you might know that Yahweh is God. There is no one else besides him.

³⁶พระองค์ทรงโปรดให้พวกท่านได้ยินพระสุรเสียงของพระองค์จากฟ้าสวรรค์ เพื่อว่าท่านจะอยู่ในวินัยปกครอง พระองค์ทรงโปรดให้ท่านเห็นเพลิงใหญ่ของพระองค์ในโลก และพวกท่านได้ยินพระวจนะของพระองค์จากกองเพลิง

³⁶Out of heaven he made you to hear his voice, that he might instruct you: and on earth he made you to see his great fire; and you heard his words out of the midst of the fire.

³⁷และเพราะพระองค์ทรงรักบรรพบุรุษของพวกท่าน จึงทรงเลือกเชื้อสายของเขาที่มาภายหลังเขา และทรงพาท่านออกจากอียิปต์ท่ามกลางสายพระเนตรของพระองค์ ด้วยเดชานุภาพยิ่งใหญ่ของพระองค์

³⁷Because he loved your fathers, therefore he chose their seed after them, and brought you out with his presence, with his great power, out of Egypt;

³⁸ทรงขับไล่ประชาชาติที่ใหญ่กว่าและมีกำลังมากกว่าพวกท่านเสียให้พ้นหน้าท่าน และนำท่านเข้ามา และทรงประทานแผ่นดินของเขาให้แก่ท่านเป็นมรดกดังทุกวันนี้

³⁸to drive out nations from before you greater and mightier than you, to bring you in, to give you their land for an inheritance, as at this day.

³⁹เหตุฉะนั้นจงทราบเสียในวันนี้ และตรึกตรองอยู่ในใจว่า พระเยโฮวาห์ทรงเป็นพระเจ้าในฟ้าสวรรค์เบื้องบนและบนแผ่นดินเบื้องล่าง หามีพระเจ้าอื่นใดอีกไม่เลย

³⁹Know therefore this day, and lay it to your heart, that Yahweh he is God in heaven above and on the earth beneath; there is none else.

⁴⁰เพราะฉะนั้นพวกท่านจงรักษากฎเกณฑ์และพระบัญญัติของพระองค์ ซึ่งข้าพเจ้าได้บัญชาแก่ท่านในวันนี้ เพื่อท่านและลูกหลานที่เกิดมาภายหลังท่านจะไปดีมาดี และวันคืนของท่านจะยืนนานอยู่ในแผ่นดิน ซึ่งพระเยโฮวาห์พระเจ้าของพวกท่านประทานแก่ท่านเป็นนิตย์นั้น"

⁴⁰You shall keep his statutes, and his commandments, which I command you this day, that it may go well with you, and with your children after you, and that you may prolong your days in the land, which Yahweh your God gives you, forever.

⁴¹แล้วโมเสสกำหนดหัวเมืองทางดวงอาทิตย์ขึ้นฟากแม่น้ำจอร์แดนข้างนี้สามหัวเมือง

⁴¹Then Moses set apart three cities beyond the Jordan toward the sunrise;

⁴²เพื่อผู้ใดที่ฆ่าคนจะได้หลบหนีไปอยู่ที่นั่น คือผู้ที่ฆ่าเพื่อนบ้านโดยมิได้เจตนา โดยมิได้เกลียดชังเขาแต่ก่อน และเมื่อหนีไปอยู่ในเมืองนี้เมืองใดเมืองหนึ่งก็จะรอดชีวิต

⁴²that the manslayer might flee there, who kills his neighbor unawares, and didn’t hate him in time past; and that fleeing to one of these cities he might live:

⁴³หัวเมืองเหล่านี้คือเมืองเบเซอร์อยู่ในถิ่นทุรกันดารบนที่ราบสูงสำหรับคนรูเบน และเมืองราโมทที่กิเลอาดสำหรับคนกาด และเมืองโกลานในบาชานสำหรับคนมนัสเสห์

⁴³Bezer in the wilderness, in the plain country, for the Reubenites; and Ramoth in Gilead, for the Gadites; and Golan in Bashan, for the Manassites.

⁴⁴ต่อไปนี้เป็นพระราชบัญญัติที่โมเสสได้ตั้งไว้ต่อหน้าคนอิสราเอล

⁴⁴This is the law which Moses set before the children of Israel:

⁴⁵เหล่านี้เป็นพระโอวาท เป็นกฎเกณฑ์และคำตัดสินซึ่งโมเสสกล่าวแก่คนอิสราเอลเมื่อเขาออกจากอียิปต์แล้ว

⁴⁵these are the testimonies, and the statutes, and the ordinances, which Moses spoke to the children of Israel, when they came forth out of Egypt,

⁴⁶ฟากแม่น้ำจอร์แดนข้างนี้ที่หุบเขาตรงข้ามเบธเปโอร์ ในแผ่นดินของสิโหนกษัตริย์คนอาโมไรต์ ผู้อยู่ที่เฮชโบนซึ่งโมเสสและคนอิสราเอลได้ตีพ่ายไปครั้งเมื่อออกมาจากอียิปต์แล้ว

⁴⁶beyond the Jordan, in the valley over against Beth Peor, in the land of Sihon king of the Amorites, who lived at Heshbon, whom Moses and the children of Israel struck, when they came forth out of Egypt.

⁴⁷คนอิสราเอลได้เข้ายึดแผ่นดินของท่านและแผ่นดินของโอกกษัตริย์เมืองบาชาน เป็นกษัตริย์สององค์ของคนอาโมไรต์ ผู้อยู่ทางดวงอาทิตย์ขึ้นฟากแม่น้ำจอร์แดนข้างนี้

⁴⁷They took his land in possession, and the land of Og king of Bashan, the two kings of the Amorites, who were beyond the Jordan toward the sunrise;

⁴⁸ตั้งแต่อาโรเออร์ที่อยู่ริมลุ่มแม่น้ำอารโนน ไปจนถึงภูเขาสีออน คือเฮอร์โมน

⁴⁸from Aroer, which is on the edge of the valley of the Arnon, even to Mount Sion (the same is Hermon),

⁴⁹รวมกับที่ราบทั้งหมด ซึ่งอยู่ฟากตะวันออกของแม่น้ำจอร์แดนข้างนี้ จนถึงทะเลแห่งที่ราบ ที่น้ำพุแห่งปิสกาห์

⁴⁹and all the Arabah beyond the Jordan eastward, even to the sea of the Arabah, under the slopes of Pisgah.
