¹ชุมนุมชนชาติอิสราเอลทั้งหมด ยกออกจากถิ่นทุรกันดารสีน ไปเป็นระยะๆตามพระบัญชาของพระเยโฮวาห์และมาตั้งค่ายที่เรฟีดิม ที่นั่นไม่มีน้ำให้พลไพร่ดื่ม

¹All the congregation of the children of Israel traveled from the wilderness of Sin, by their journeys, according to Yahweh’s commandment, and encamped in Rephidim; but there was no water for the people to drink.

²เหตุฉะนั้นพลไพร่จึงกล่าวหาโมเสสว่า "ให้น้ำพวกข้าดื่มซิ" โมเสสจึงบอกเขาว่า "พวกเจ้าหาเรื่องเราทำไม เหตุไฉนพวกเจ้าจึงบังอาจลองดีกับพระเยโฮวาห์"

²Therefore the people quarreled with Moses, and said, “Give us water to drink.” Moses said to them, “Why do you quarrel with me? Why do you test Yahweh?”

³พลไพร่กระหายน้ำที่ตำบลนั้น จึงบ่นต่อโมเสสว่า "ทำไมท่านจึงพาพวกข้า ทั้งบุตรและฝูงสัตว์ของข้า ออกมาจากประเทศอียิปต์ให้อดน้ำตาย"

³The people were thirsty for water there; and the people murmured against Moses, and said, “Why have you brought us up out of Egypt, to kill us, our children, and our livestock with thirst?”

⁴โมเสสจึงร้องทูลพระเยโฮวาห์ว่า "ข้าพระองค์จะทำอย่างไรกับชนชาตินี้ดี เขาเกือบจะเอาหินขว้างข้าพระองค์ให้ตายอยู่แล้ว"

⁴Moses cried to Yahweh, saying, “What shall I do with these people? They are almost ready to stone me.”

⁵พระเยโฮวาห์จึงตรัสกับโมเสสว่า "จงเดินล่วงหน้าพลไพร่ไปและนำพวกผู้ใหญ่บางคนของอิสราเอลไปด้วย ให้ถือไม้เท้าที่เจ้าใช้ตีแม่น้ำนั้นไปด้วย

⁵Yahweh said to Moses, “Walk on before the people, and take the elders of Israel with you, and take the rod in your hand with which you struck the Nile, and go.

⁶ดูเถิด เราจะยืนอยู่ต่อหน้าเจ้าที่นั่นบนศิลาที่ภูเขาโฮเรบ เจ้าจงตีศิลานั้น แล้วน้ำจะไหลออกมาจากศิลาให้พลไพร่ดื่ม" โมเสสก็ทำดังนั้นท่ามกลางสายตาพวกผู้ใหญ่ของอิสราเอล

⁶Behold, I will stand before you there on the rock in Horeb. You shall strike the rock, and water will come out of it, that the people may drink.” Moses did so in the sight of the elders of Israel.

⁷โมเสสเรียกชื่อตำบลนั้นว่า มัสสาห์ และเมรบาห์ ด้วยเหตุว่า คนอิสราเอลกล่าวหาตน ณ ที่นั้น และลองดีกับพระเยโฮวาห์ว่า "พระเยโฮวาห์ทรงสถิตอยู่ท่ามกลางพวกข้าพเจ้าจริงหรือ"

⁷He called the name of the place Massah, Massah means testing. and Meribah, Meribah means quarreling. because the children of Israel quarreled, and because they tested Yahweh, saying, “Is Yahweh among us, or not?”

⁸ครั้งนั้น คนอามาเลขยกมารบกับคนอิสราเอลที่ตำบลเรฟีดิม

⁸Then Amalek came and fought with Israel in Rephidim.

⁹โมเสสสั่งโยชูวาว่า "จงเลือกชายฉกรรจ์ฝ่ายเราออกไปสู้รบกับพวกอามาเลข พรุ่งนี้เราจะยืนถือไม้เท้าของพระเจ้าอยู่บนยอดภูเขา"

⁹Moses said to Joshua, “Choose men for us, and go out, fight with Amalek. Tomorrow I will stand on the top of the hill with God’s rod in my hand.”

¹⁰โยชูวาก็ทำตามคำสั่งของโมเสส ออกสู้รบกับพวกอามาเลข ส่วนโมเสส อาโรน และเฮอร์ ก็ขึ้นไปบนยอดภูเขานั้น

¹⁰So Joshua did as Moses had told him, and fought with Amalek; and Moses, Aaron, and Hur went up to the top of the hill.

¹¹ต่อมาโมเสสยกมือขึ้นเมื่อไร อิสราเอลก็ได้เปรียบเมื่อนั้น ท่านลดมือลงเมื่อไร พวกอามาเลขก็เป็นต่อเมื่อนั้น

¹¹It happened, when Moses held up his hand, that Israel prevailed; and when he let down his hand, Amalek prevailed.

¹²แต่มือของโมเสสเมื่อยล้า เขาทั้งสองก็นำก้อนหินมาวางไว้ให้โมเสส ท่านนั่ง อาโรนกับเฮอร์ก็ช่วยยกมือท่านขึ้นคนละข้าง มือของท่านก็ชูอยู่จนตะวันตกดิน

¹²But Moses’ hands were heavy; and they took a stone, and put it under him, and he sat on it. Aaron and Hur held up his hands, the one on the one side, and the other on the other side. His hands were steady until sunset.

¹³ฝ่ายโยชูวาปราบอามาเลขกับพลไพร่ของเขาพ่ายแพ้ไปด้วยคมดาบ

¹³Joshua defeated Amalek and his people with the edge of the sword.

¹⁴พระเยโฮวาห์ตรัสกับโมเสสว่า "จงเขียนข้อความต่อไปนี้ลงไว้ในหนังสือเพื่อเป็นที่ระลึก ทั้งเล่าให้โยชูวาฟังคือว่าเราจะลบล้างชื่อชนชาติอามาเลขไม่ให้ปรากฏในความทรงจำของพลไพร่ภายใต้ฟ้านี้เลย"

¹⁴Yahweh said to Moses, “Write this for a memorial in a book, and rehearse it in the ears of Joshua: that I will utterly blot out the memory of Amalek from under the sky.”

¹⁵โมเสสจึงสร้างแท่นเรียกชื่อว่า เยโฮวาห์นิสสี

¹⁵Moses built an altar, and called its name Yahweh our Banner. Hebrew, Yahweh Nissi

¹⁶กล่าวว่า "เพราะพระเยโฮวาห์ได้ทรงปฏิญาณว่าพระเยโฮวาห์จะทรงกระทำสงครามกับอามาเลขต่อไปทุกชั่วอายุ"

¹⁶He said, “Yah has sworn: ‘Yahweh will have war with Amalek from generation to generation.’”
