1เมื่อพลไพร่เห็นโมเสสล่าช้าอยู่ ไม่ลงมาจากภูเขาจึงได้พากันมาหาอาโรน เรียนว่า "ลุกขึ้น ขอท่านสร้างพระให้แก่พวกข้าพเจ้า ซึ่งจะนำพวกข้าพเจ้าไป ด้วยว่าโมเสสคนนี้ที่ได้นำข้าพเจ้าออกมาจากประเทศอียิปต์เป็นอะไรไปเสียแล้ว ข้าพเจ้าไม่ทราบ"
1When the people saw that Moses delayed to come down from the mountain, the people gathered themselves together to Aaron, and said to him, “Come, make us gods, which shall go before us; for as for this Moses, the man who brought us up out of the land of Egypt, we don’t know what has become of him.”
2ฝ่ายอาโรนได้กล่าวแก่เขาว่า "จงปลดตุ้มหูทองคำออกจากหูภรรยา และหูบุตรชายหญิงของเจ้าทั้งหลายแล้วนำมาให้เราเถิด"
2Aaron said to them, “Take off the golden rings, which are in the ears of your wives, of your sons, and of your daughters, and bring them to me.”
3พลไพร่ทั้งปวงจึงได้ปลดตุ้มหูทองคำจากหูของตนมามอบให้กับอาโรน
3All the people took off the golden rings which were in their ears, and brought them to Aaron.
4เมื่ออาโรนได้รับทองคำจากมือเขาแล้ว จึงใช้เครื่องมือสลักหล่อรูปเป็นวัวหนุ่ม แล้วเขาทั้งหลายประกาศว่า "โอ อิสราเอล สิ่งเหล่านี้แหละเป็นพระของเจ้า ซึ่งนำเจ้าออกจากแผ่นดินอียิปต์"
4He received what they handed him, and fashioned it with an engraving tool, and made it a molten calf; and they said, “These are your gods, Israel, which brought you up out of the land of Egypt.”
5เมื่ออาโรนได้ยินดังนั้นแล้วจึงสร้างแท่นบูชาไว้ตรงหน้ารูปวัวหนุ่มนั้น แล้วอาโรนประกาศว่า "พรุ่งนี้จะเป็นวันเทศกาลเลี้ยงถวายพระเยโฮวาห์"
5When Aaron saw this, he built an altar before it; and Aaron made a proclamation, and said, “Tomorrow shall be a feast to Yahweh.”
6ครั้นรุ่งขึ้นเขาตื่นขึ้นแต่เช้ามืด ถวายเครื่องเผาบูชา และนำเครื่องสันติบูชามา พลไพร่ก็นั่งลงกินและดื่มแล้วก็ลุกขึ้นเล่นสนุกกัน
6They rose up early on the next day, and offered burnt offerings, and brought peace offerings; and the people sat down to eat and to drink, and rose up to play.
7ฝ่ายพระเยโฮวาห์ตรัสกับโมเสสว่า "เจ้าลงไปเถิด ด้วยว่าชนชาติของเจ้าซึ่งเจ้าได้นำออกจากแผ่นดินอียิปต์นั้น ได้ทำความเสื่อมเสียมากแล้ว
7Yahweh spoke to Moses, “Go, get down; for your people, who you brought up out of the land of Egypt, have corrupted themselves!
8เขาได้หันเหออกจากทางซึ่งเราสั่งเขาไว้อย่างรวดเร็ว คือหล่อรูปวัวขึ้นรูปหนึ่งสำหรับตน และกราบไหว้รูปนั้น และถวายสัตวบูชาแก่รูปนั้นและกล่าวว่า `โอ อิสราเอล สิ่งเหล่านี้แหละเป็นพระของเจ้า ซึ่งนำเจ้าออกจากแผ่นดินอียิปต์'"
8They have turned aside quickly out of the way which I commanded them. They have made themselves a molten calf, and have worshiped it, and have sacrificed to it, and said, ‘These are your gods, Israel, which brought you up out of the land of Egypt.’”
9แล้วพระเยโฮวาห์ตรัสกับโมเสสว่า "เราเห็นพลไพร่นี้แล้ว ดูเถิด เขาเป็นชนชาติคอแข็ง
9Yahweh said to Moses, “I have seen these people, and behold, they are a stiff-necked people.
10ฉะนั้นบัดนี้เจ้าจงปล่อยเราตามลำพัง เพื่อความพิโรธของเราจะเดือดพลุ่งขึ้นต่อเขาและเพื่อเราจะผลาญทำลายเขาเสีย ส่วนเจ้าเราจะให้เป็นประชาชาติใหญ่"
10Now therefore leave me alone, that my wrath may burn hot against them, and that I may consume them; and I will make of you a great nation.”
11ฝ่ายโมเสสก็วิงวอนกราบทูลพระเยโฮวาห์พระเจ้าของท่านว่า "ข้าแต่พระเยโฮวาห์ ไฉนพระองค์จึงทรงพระพิโรธอย่างแรงกล้าต่อพลไพร่ของพระองค์ ซึ่งพระองค์ทรงนำออกมาจากแผ่นดินอียิปต์ ด้วยฤทธานุภาพอันใหญ่ยิ่ง และด้วยพระหัตถ์อันทรงฤทธิ์ของพระองค์เล่า
11Moses begged Yahweh his God, and said, “Yahweh, why does your wrath burn hot against your people, that you have brought out of the land of Egypt with great power and with a mighty hand?
12เหตุไฉนจะให้ชนชาวอียิปต์กล่าวว่า `พระองค์ทรงนำเขาออกมาเพื่อจะทรงทำร้ายเขา เพื่อจะประหารชีวิตเขาที่ภูเขาและทำลายเขาเสียจากพื้นแผ่นดินโลก' ขอพระองค์ทรงหันกลับเสียจากความพิโรธอันแรงกล้าของพระองค์ และทรงกลับพระทัยอย่าทำอันตรายแก่พลไพร่ของพระองค์เอง
12Why should the Egyptians speak, saying, ‘He brought them forth for evil, to kill them in the mountains, and to consume them from the surface of the earth?’ Turn from your fierce wrath, and repent of this evil against your people.
13ขอพระองค์ได้ทรงระลึกถึงอับราฮัม อิสอัค และอิสราเอลผู้รับใช้ของพระองค์ เป็นผู้ซึ่งพระองค์ได้ทรงปฏิญาณด้วยพระองค์เองแก่เขาเหล่านั้นไว้ว่า `เราจะให้เชื้อสายของเจ้าทวีขึ้นดุจดวงดาวในท้องฟ้า และแผ่นดินนี้ทั้งหมดซึ่งเราสัญญาไว้แล้ว เราจะยกให้แก่เชื้อสายของเจ้า และเขาจะรับไว้เป็นมรดกตลอดไป'"
13Remember Abraham, Isaac, and Israel, your servants, to whom you swore by your own self, and said to them, ‘I will multiply your seed as the stars of the sky, and all this land that I have spoken of I will give to your seed, and they shall inherit it forever.’”
14แล้วพระเยโฮวาห์จึงทรงกลับพระทัย มิได้ทรงทำอันตรายอย่างที่พระองค์ทรงดำริว่าจะกระทำแก่พลไพร่ของพระองค์
14Yahweh repented of the evil which he said he would do to his people.
15ฝ่ายโมเสสกลับลงมาจากภูเขาถือแผ่นศิลาพระโอวาทมาสองแผ่น ซึ่งจารึกทั้งสองด้าน จารึกทั้งด้านนี้และด้านนั้น
15Moses turned, and went down from the mountain, with the two tablets of the testimony in his hand; tablets that were written on both their sides; on the one side and on the other they were written.
16แผ่นศิลาเหล่านั้นเป็นงานจากฝีพระหัตถ์ของพระเจ้า และอักษรที่จารึกนั้นเป็นลายพระหัตถ์ของพระเจ้า สลักไว้บนแผ่นศิลานั้น
16The tablets were the work of God, and the writing was the writing of God, engraved on the tables.
17เมื่อโยชูวาได้ยินเสียงพลไพร่อื้ออึงอยู่เขาจึงเรียนโมเสสว่า "ที่ค่ายมีเสียงเหมือนเกิดสงคราม"
17When Joshua heard the noise of the people as they shouted, he said to Moses, “There is the noise of war in the camp.”
18ฝ่ายโมเสสตอบว่า "ที่เราได้ยินมิใช่เสียงอื้ออึงของคนที่มีชัยชนะ และมิใช่เสียงคนที่แพ้ แต่เป็นเสียงคนร้องเพลงกัน"
18He said, “It isn’t the voice of those who shout for victory, neither is it the voice of those who cry for being overcome; but the noise of those who sing that I hear.”
19ต่อมาพอโมเสสเข้ามาใกล้ค่าย ได้เห็นรูปวัวหนุ่มและคนเต้นรำ โทสะของโมเสสก็เดือดพลุ่งขึ้น ท่านโยนแผ่นศิลาทิ้งตกแตกเสียที่เชิงภูเขานั่นเอง
19It happened, as soon as he came near to the camp, that he saw the calf and the dancing: and Moses’ anger grew hot, and he threw the tablets out of his hands, and broke them beneath the mountain.
20แล้วท่านเอารูปวัวหนุ่มที่พลไพร่ทำไว้นั้นเผาเสีย และบดเป็นผงโรยลงในน้ำ และบังคับให้ชนชาติอิสราเอลดื่มน้ำนั้น
20He took the calf which they had made, and burnt it with fire, ground it to powder, and scattered it on the water, and made the children of Israel drink of it.
21โมเสสจึงถามอาโรนว่า "พลไพร่นี้กระทำอะไรแก่ท่านเล่า ท่านจึงนำบาปอันใหญ่นี้มาสู่พวกเขา"
21Moses said to Aaron, “What did these people do to you, that you have brought a great sin on them?”
22ฝ่ายอาโรนตอบว่า "อย่าให้ความโกรธของเจ้านายของข้าพเจ้าเดือดพลุ่งขึ้นเลย ท่านก็รู้จักพลไพร่พวกนี้แล้วว่า เขาเอนเอียงไปในทางชั่ว
22Aaron said, “Don’t let the anger of my lord grow hot. You know the people, that they are set on evil.
23เขามาร้องขอข้าพเจ้าว่า `ขอจงทำพระให้พวกข้าพเจ้า ซึ่งจะนำพวกข้าพเจ้าไป ด้วยว่าโมเสสคนนี้ที่ได้นำพวกข้าพเจ้าออกจากแผ่นดินอียิปต์นั้นเกิดอะไรขึ้นกับเขา ข้าพเจ้าไม่ทราบ'
23For they said to me, ‘Make us gods, which shall go before us; for as for this Moses, the man who brought us up out of the land of Egypt, we don’t know what has become of him.’
24แล้วข้าพเจ้าตอบแก่เขาว่า `ผู้ใดมีทองคำให้ปลดออกมา' เขาก็มอบทองคำให้แก่ข้าพเจ้า และข้าพเจ้าจึงโยนลงไปในไฟแล้ววัวนี้ก็ออกมา"
24I said to them, ‘Whoever has any gold, let them take it off:’ so they gave it to me; and I threw it into the fire, and out came this calf.”
25เมื่อโมเสสเห็นประชาชนแสดงออกถึงการเปลือยเปล่าเสียแล้ว (เพราะว่าอาโรนปล่อยให้เขาเปลือยเปล่าจนน่าละอายท่ามกลางพวกศัตรู)
25When Moses saw that the people had broken loose, (for Aaron had let them loose for a derision among their enemies),
26แล้วโมเสสยืนอยู่ที่ประตูค่ายร้องว่า "ผู้ใดอยู่ฝ่ายพระเยโฮวาห์ให้ผู้นั้นมาหาเราเถิด" ฝ่ายลูกหลานของเลวีได้มาหาโมเสสพร้อมกัน
26then Moses stood in the gate of the camp, and said, “Whoever is on Yahweh’s side, come to me!” All the sons of Levi gathered themselves together to him.
27โมเสสจึงกล่าวแก่เขาว่า "พระเยโฮวาห์พระเจ้าของอิสราเอลตรัสสั่งดังนี้ว่า `จงเอาดาบสะพายทุกคนแล้วจงไปมาตามประตูต่างๆทั่วค่าย ทุกๆคนจงฆ่าพี่น้องและมิตรสหายและเพื่อนบ้านของตัวเอง'"
27He said to them, “Thus says Yahweh, the God of Israel, ‘Every man put his sword on his thigh, and go back and forth from gate to gate throughout the camp, and every man kill his brother, and every man his companion, and every man his neighbor.’”
28ฝ่ายลูกหลานของเลวีก็ทำตามโมเสสสั่ง และพลไพร่ประมาณสามพันคนตายลงในวันนั้น
28The sons of Levi did according to the word of Moses: and there fell of the people that day about three thousand men.
29ด้วยโมเสสกล่าวไว้แล้วว่า "ในวันนี้ท่านทั้งหลายจงสถาปนาตัวเองรับใช้พระเยโฮวาห์ จงให้ทุกคนสู้รบกับบุตรชายและพี่น้องของตน เพื่อวันนี้พระองค์จะได้อำนวยพระพรแก่ท่านทั้งหลาย"
29Moses said, “Consecrate yourselves today to Yahweh, yes, every man against his son, and against his brother; that he may bestow on you a blessing this day.”
30ครั้นวันรุ่งขึ้น โมเสสจึงกล่าวแก่พลไพร่ว่า "ท่านทั้งหลายทำบาปอันใหญ่ยิ่ง แต่บัดนี้เราจะขึ้นไปเฝ้าพระเยโฮวาห์ ชะรอยเราจะทำการลบมลทินบาปของท่านได้"
30It happened on the next day, that Moses said to the people, “You have sinned a great sin. Now I will go up to Yahweh. Perhaps I shall make atonement for your sin.”
31โมเสสจึงกลับไปเฝ้าพระเยโฮวาห์ทูลว่า "โอพระเจ้าข้า พลไพร่นี้ทำบาปอันใหญ่ยิ่ง เขาทำพระด้วยทองคำสำหรับตัวเอง
31Moses returned to Yahweh, and said, “Oh, this people have sinned a great sin, and have made themselves gods of gold.
32แต่บัดนี้ขอพระองค์โปรดยกโทษบาปของเขา ถ้าหาไม่ ขอพระองค์ทรงลบชื่อของข้าพระองค์เสียจากทะเบียนที่พระองค์ทรงจดไว้"
32Yet now, if you will, forgive their sin—and if not, please blot me out of your book which you have written.”
33ฝ่ายพระเยโฮวาห์ตรัสกับโมเสสว่า "ผู้ใดทำบาปต่อเราแล้วเราจะลบชื่อผู้นั้นเสียจากทะเบียนของเรา
33Yahweh said to Moses, “Whoever has sinned against me, him will I blot out of my book.
34ฉะนั้นบัดนี้ จงไปเถอะ นำพลไพร่ไปยังที่ซึ่งเราบอกแก่เจ้าแล้ว ดูเถิด ทูตสวรรค์ของเราจะนำหน้าเจ้า แต่ว่าในวันนั้นเมื่อเราจะพิพากษาเขา เราจะลงโทษเขา"
34Now go, lead the people to the place of which I have spoken to you. Behold, my angel shall go before you. Nevertheless in the day when I punish, I will punish them for their sin.”
35ฝ่ายพระเยโฮวาห์ทรงบันดาลให้ภัยพิบัติเกิดขึ้นแก่พลไพร่ เพราะเหตุเขาทำรูปวัวหนุ่มซึ่งอาโรนทำนั้น
35Yahweh struck the people, because they made the calf, which Aaron made.
