1พระเยโฮวาห์ตรัสกับโมเสสว่า "ไปเถิด จงยกไปจากที่นี่ เจ้ากับพลไพร่ซึ่งเจ้านำขึ้นมาจากแผ่นดินอียิปต์ ไปยังแผ่นดินซึ่งเราปฏิญาณกับอับราฮัม อิสอัค และยาโคบว่า `แผ่นดินนั้นเราจะให้แก่เชื้อสายของเจ้า'
1Yahweh spoke to Moses, “Depart, go up from here, you and the people that you have brought up out of the land of Egypt, to the land of which I swore to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob, saying, ‘I will give it to your seed.’
2เราจะใช้ทูตสวรรค์องค์หนึ่งนำหน้าเจ้าไป และจะไล่คนคานาอัน คนอาโมไรต์ คนฮิตไทต์ คนเปริสซี คนฮีไวต์ คนเยบุส ออกเสียจากที่นั่น
2I will send an angel before you; and I will drive out the Canaanite, the Amorite, and the Hittite, and the Perizzite, the Hivite, and the Jebusite:
3จงนำไปถึงแผ่นดินซึ่งมีน้ำนมและน้ำผึ้งไหลบริบูรณ์ แต่เราจะไม่ขึ้นไปกับพวกเจ้า เกรงว่าเราจะทำลายล้างพวกเจ้าเสียกลางทาง เพราะว่าเจ้าเป็นชนชาติคอแข็ง"
3to a land flowing with milk and honey: for I will not go up in the midst of you, for you are a stiff-necked people, lest I consume you in the way.”
4เมื่อพลไพร่ได้ยินข่าวร้ายนั้นเขามีความโศกเศร้า และไม่มีผู้ใดใส่เครื่องประดับเลย
4When the people heard this evil news, they mourned: and no one put on his jewelry.
5เพราะพระเยโฮวาห์ตรัสกับโมเสสว่า "จงกล่าวแก่ชนชาติอิสราเอลว่า `เจ้าทั้งหลายเป็นชนชาติคอแข็ง ถ้าเราจะขึ้นไปกับเจ้าเพียงครู่เดียว เราก็จะทำลายล้างเจ้าเสีย เหตุฉะนี้ จงถอดเครื่องประดับออกเสียเพื่อเราจะรู้ว่า ควรจะกระทำอย่างไรกับเจ้า'"
5Yahweh said to Moses, “Tell the children of Israel, ‘You are a stiff-necked people. If I were to go up into your midst for one moment, I would consume you. Therefore now take off your jewelry from you, that I may know what to do to you.’”
6ฝ่ายชนชาติอิสราเอลก็ถอดเครื่องประดับออกตอนที่เขาอยู่แถบภูเขาโฮเรบ
6The children of Israel stripped themselves of their jewelry from Mount Horeb onward.
7ฝ่ายโมเสสตั้งพลับพลาหลังหนึ่งไว้ข้างนอกไกลจากค่าย และเรียกว่าพลับพลาแห่งชุมนุม ต่อมาทุกคนซึ่งปรารถนาจะเข้าเฝ้าพระเยโฮวาห์ก็ออกไปยังพลับพลาแห่งชุมนุม ซึ่งตั้งอยู่นอกบริเวณค่าย
7Now Moses used to take the tent and to pitch it outside the camp, far away from the camp, and he called it “The Tent of Meeting.” It happened that everyone who sought Yahweh went out to the Tent of Meeting, which was outside the camp.
8และต่อมาเมื่อไรที่โมเสสออกไปยังพลับพลานั้น พลไพร่ทั้งปวงก็จะลุกขึ้นยืนอยู่ที่ประตูเต็นท์ของตน มองดูโมเสสจนท่านเข้าไปในพลับพลา
8It happened that when Moses went out to the Tent, that all the people rose up, and stood, everyone at their tent door, and watched Moses, until he had gone into the Tent.
9ครั้นโมเสสเข้าไปในพลับพลาแล้ว เสาเมฆก็ลอยลงมาตั้งอยู่ที่ประตูพลับพลา แล้วพระเยโฮวาห์ก็ตรัสสนทนากับโมเสส
9It happened, when Moses entered into the Tent, that the pillar of cloud descended, stood at the door of the Tent, and spoke with Moses.
10เวลาพลไพร่ทั้งปวงเห็นเสาเมฆนั้นตั้งอยู่ที่ประตูพลับพลาเมื่อไร ทุกคนก็จะลุกขึ้นยืนนมัสการอยู่ที่ประตูเต็นท์ของตน
10All the people saw the pillar of cloud stand at the door of the Tent, and all the people rose up and worshiped, everyone at their tent door.
11ดังนี้แหละพระเยโฮวาห์เคยตรัสสนทนากับโมเสสสองต่อสอง เหมือนมิตรสหายสนทนากัน แล้วโมเสสก็กลับไปยังค่าย แต่โยชูวาผู้รับใช้หนุ่ม ผู้เป็นบุตรชายของนูน มิได้ออกไปจากพลับพลา
11Yahweh spoke to Moses face to face, as a man speaks to his friend. He turned again into the camp, but his servant Joshua, the son of Nun, a young man, didn’t depart out of the Tent.
12โมเสสกราบทูลพระเยโฮวาห์ว่า "ดูเถิด พระองค์ได้ตรัสสั่งข้าพระองค์ว่า `จงนำพลไพร่นี้ขึ้นไป' แต่พระองค์มิได้แจ้งให้ข้าพระองค์ทราบว่า จะใช้ผู้ใดขึ้นไปกับข้าพระองค์ แม้กระนั้นพระองค์ก็ยังตรัสกับข้าพระองค์ว่า `เรารู้จักเจ้าตามชื่อของเจ้า และเจ้าก็ได้รับความกรุณาในสายตาของเราด้วย'
12Moses said to Yahweh, “Behold, you tell me, ‘Bring up this people:’ and you haven’t let me know whom you will send with me. Yet you have said, ‘I know you by name, and you have also found favor in my sight.’
13ฉะนั้นบัดนี้ ข้าพระองค์ทูลวิงวอนต่อพระองค์ ถ้าแม้ข้าพระองค์ได้รับพระกรุณาในสายพระเนตรของพระองค์แล้ว ขอทรงโปรดสำแดงพระมรรคาของพระองค์ให้ข้าพระองค์เห็นในกาลบัดนี้ เพื่อข้าพระองค์จะรู้จักพระองค์ แล้วจะรับพระกรุณาในสายพระเนตรของพระองค์ และขอทรงถือว่าชนชาตินี้เป็นพลไพร่ของพระองค์"
13Now therefore, if I have found favor in your sight, please show me now your ways, that I may know you, so that I may find favor in your sight: and consider that this nation is your people.”
14ฝ่ายพระองค์ตรัสว่า "เราเองจะไปกับเจ้า และให้เจ้าได้พัก"
14He said, “My presence will go with you, and I will give you rest.”
15ฝ่ายโมเสสจึงกราบทูลพระองค์ว่า "ถ้าพระองค์มิได้เสด็จไปกับข้าพระองค์ ก็ขออย่านำพวกข้าพระองค์ขึ้นไปจากที่นี่เลย
15He said to him, “If your presence doesn’t go with me, don’t carry us up from here.
16ทำอย่างไรจะทราบได้ตรงนี้ว่า ข้าพระองค์และพลไพร่ของพระองค์ได้รับพระกรุณาในสายพระเนตรของพระองค์แล้ว ก็เมื่อพระองค์เสด็จไปกับพวกข้าพระองค์ด้วยมิใช่หรือ ดังนี้ เราทั้งหลายทั้งข้าพระองค์และพลไพร่ของพระองค์จึงจะแยกออกจากชนชาติทั้งปวงที่อยู่บนพื้นแผ่นดินโลก"
16For how would people know that I have found favor in your sight, I and your people? Isn’t it in that you go with us, so that we are separated, I and your people, from all the people who are on the surface of the earth?”
17ฝ่ายพระเยโฮวาห์ตรัสกับโมเสสว่า "เราจะกระทำสิ่งที่เจ้ากล่าวถึงนี้ด้วยเพราะว่าเจ้าได้รับความกรุณาในสายตาของเราแล้ว และเรารู้จักเจ้าตามชื่อของเจ้า"
17Yahweh said to Moses, “I will do this thing also that you have spoken; for you have found favor in my sight, and I know you by name.”
18โมเสสจึงกราบทูลว่า "ขอทรงโปรดสำแดงสง่าราศีของพระองค์แก่ข้าพระองค์เถิด"
18He said, “Please show me your glory.”
19พระองค์จึงตรัสตอบว่า "เราจะให้คุณความดีของเราประจักษ์แจ้งต่อหน้าเจ้า และเราจะประกาศนามของเราคือ เยโฮวาห์ ให้ประจักษ์ต่อหน้าเจ้า เราประสงค์จะโปรดปรานผู้ใด เราก็จะโปรดปรานผู้นั้น และเราประสงค์จะเมตตาแก่ผู้ใด เราก็จะเมตตาผู้นั้น"
19He said, “I will make all my goodness pass before you, and will proclaim the name of Yahweh before you. I will be gracious to whom I will be gracious, and will show mercy on whom I will show mercy.”
20พระองค์จึงตรัสว่า "เจ้าจะเห็นหน้าของเราไม่ได้ เพราะมนุษย์เห็นหน้าเราแล้วจะมีชีวิตอยู่ไม่ได้"
20He said, “You cannot see my face, for man may not see me and live.”
21พระเยโฮวาห์ตรัสอีกว่า "ดูเถิด มีที่แห่งหนึ่งอยู่ใกล้เรา เจ้าจงไปยืนอยู่บนศิลานั้น
21Yahweh also said, “Behold, there is a place by me, and you shall stand on the rock.
22แล้วขณะเมื่อสง่าราศีของเรากำลังผ่านไป เราจะซ่อนเจ้าไว้ในช่องศิลาและจะบังเจ้าไว้ด้วยมือเราจนกว่าเราจะผ่านไป
22It will happen, while my glory passes by, that I will put you in a cleft of the rock, and will cover you with my hand until I have passed by;
23เมื่อเราเอามือของเราออกแล้ว เจ้าจะเห็นหลังของเรา แต่หน้าของเราเจ้าจะมิได้เห็น"
23then I will take away my hand, and you will see my back; but my face shall not be seen.”
