1ต่อมาภายหลังโมเสสกับอาโรนเข้าเฝ้า และทูลฟาโรห์ว่า "พระเยโฮวาห์พระเจ้าของอิสราเอลตรัสดังนี้ว่า `จงปล่อยพลไพร่ของเราไป เพื่อเขาจะได้ทำการเลี้ยงนมัสการเราในถิ่นทุรกันดาร'"
1Afterward Moses and Aaron came, and said to Pharaoh, “This is what Yahweh, the God of Israel, says, ‘Let my people go, that they may hold a feast to me in the wilderness.’”
2ฟาโรห์จึงตรัสว่า "พระเยโฮวาห์นั้นเป็นผู้ใดเล่าเราจึงจะต้องเชื่อฟังเสียงของพระองค์และปล่อยคนอิสราเอลไป เราไม่รู้จักพระเยโฮวาห์ ทั้งเราจะไม่ยอมปล่อยคนอิสราเอลไป"
2Pharaoh said, “Who is Yahweh, that I should listen to his voice to let Israel go? I don’t know Yahweh, and moreover I will not let Israel go.”
3เขาทั้งสองจึงทูลว่า "พระเจ้าของคนฮีบรูได้ทรงปรากฏกับข้าพระองค์ ขอโปรดให้ข้าพระองค์ทั้งหลายเดินทางไปในถิ่นทุรกันดารสามวัน และถวายเครื่องบูชาแด่พระเยโฮวาห์พระเจ้าของข้าพระองค์ เกรงว่าพระองค์จะทรงลงโทษพวกข้าพระองค์ด้วยโรคภัยหรือด้วยดาบ"
3They said, “The God of the Hebrews has met with us. Please let us go three days’ journey into the wilderness, and sacrifice to Yahweh, our God, lest he fall on us with pestilence, or with the sword.”
4แล้วกษัตริย์แห่งอียิปต์ตรัสกับเขาว่า "เจ้าโมเสสกับอาโรน เจ้าจะให้พลไพร่ละทิ้งการงานของเขาเสียทำไม เจ้าจงกลับไปรับภาระงานของเจ้า"
4The king of Egypt said to them, “Why do you, Moses and Aaron, take the people from their work? Get back to your burdens!”
5และฟาโรห์ตรัสว่า "ดูเถิด พวกไพร่ในประเทศนี้มีมาก และเจ้าทั้งสองทำให้เขาหยุดภาระงานของเขาเสีย"
5Pharaoh said, “Behold, the people of the land are now many, and you make them rest from their burdens.”
6ในวันนั้นเองฟาโรห์มีพระบัญชาสั่งนายงานและนายกองของพลไพร่ว่า
6The same day Pharaoh commanded the taskmasters of the people, and their officers, saying,
7"ตั้งแต่นี้ไป เจ้าอย่าให้ฟางแก่พวกไพร่สำหรับใช้ทำอิฐเหมือนแต่ก่อน แต่ให้เขาไปเที่ยวหาฟางเอาเอง
7“You shall no longer give the people straw to make brick, as before. Let them go and gather straw for themselves.
8ส่วนจำนวนอิฐซึ่งแต่ก่อนเกณฑ์ให้เขาทำเท่าไร เจ้าก็จงเกณฑ์ให้เขาทำเท่านั้น เจ้าอย่าได้หย่อนลง เพราะว่าเขาเกียจคร้าน เหตุฉะนั้นเขาจึงร้องว่า `ขอให้พวกข้าพระองค์ไปถวายเครื่องบูชาแด่พระเจ้าของพวกข้าพระองค์'
8The number of the bricks, which they made before, you require from them. You shall not diminish anything of it, for they are idle; therefore they cry, saying, ‘Let us go and sacrifice to our God.’
9จงจัดหางานให้เขาทำหนักกว่าแต่ก่อน เพื่อเขาจะทำงาน และไม่ฟังคำพูดเหลวไหล"
9Let heavier work be laid on the men, that they may labor therein; and don’t let them pay any attention to lying words.”
10ฝ่ายนายงานและนายกองของพลไพร่ก็ออกไปและกล่าวแก่พลไพร่ว่า "ฟาโรห์รับสั่งดังนี้ว่า `เราจะไม่ยอมให้ฟางแก่พวกเจ้าเลย
10The taskmasters of the people went out, and their officers, and they spoke to the people, saying, “This is what Pharaoh says: ‘I will not give you straw.
11เจ้าจงไปหาฟางมาเอง ตามแต่จะหามาได้เถิด แต่งานของเจ้าที่เกณฑ์นั้นก็ไม่ลดหย่อนให้เลย'"
11Go yourselves, get straw where you can find it, for nothing of your work shall be diminished.’”
12พลไพร่เหล่านั้นจึงแยกย้ายกันไปทั่วแผ่นดินอียิปต์เพื่อเก็บตอฟางมาแทนฟาง
12So the people were scattered abroad throughout all the land of Egypt to gather stubble for straw.
13นายงานก็เร่งรัดว่า "จงทำงาน คืองานประจำวันของเจ้า ให้เสร็จครบเหมือนเมื่อยังมีฟางอยู่"
13The taskmasters were urgent saying, “Fulfill your work quota daily, as when there was straw!”
14นายกองของชนชาติอิสราเอล ซึ่งนายงานของฟาโรห์ตั้งให้เป็นผู้บังคับเขานั้น ก็ถูกโบยตีและถูกถามว่า "ทำไมหมู่นี้จึงไม่ได้อิฐที่เกณฑ์ไว้เต็มจำนวน ทั้งวานนี้และวันนี้ เหมือนแต่ก่อน"
14The officers of the children of Israel, whom Pharaoh’s taskmasters had set over them, were beaten, and demanded, “Why haven’t you fulfilled your quota both yesterday and today, in making brick as before?”
15นายกองของชนชาติอิสราเอลจึงมาร้องทูลต่อฟาโรห์ว่า "เหตุไฉนพระองค์จึงทรงกระทำดังนี้แก่พวกทาสของพระองค์
15Then the officers of the children of Israel came and cried to Pharaoh, saying, “Why do you deal this way with your servants?
16พวกเขากล่าวกับพวกเราว่า `ทำอิฐซิ' แต่มิได้ให้ฟางแก่พวกทาสของพระองค์เลย และดูเถิด พวกทาสของพระองค์ถูกโบยตี แต่ข้าราชการของพระองค์เองเป็นฝ่ายผิด"
16No straw is given to your servants, and they tell us, ‘Make brick!’ and behold, your servants are beaten; but the fault is in your own people.”
17แต่ฟาโรห์ตรัสว่า "พวกเจ้าเกียจคร้าน พวกเจ้าเกียจคร้าน พวกเจ้าจึงมาร้องว่า `ขอให้ข้าพระองค์ไปถวายเครื่องบูชาแด่พระเยโฮวาห์'
17But he said, “You are idle! You are idle! Therefore you say, ‘Let us go and sacrifice to Yahweh.’
18เหตุฉะนั้นเจ้าจงไปทำงานเดี๋ยวนี้ ฟางนั้นจะไม่ให้พวกเจ้าเลย แต่จำนวนอิฐที่เกณฑ์ไว้นั้น พวกเจ้าจะต้องทำมาให้ครบจำนวน"
18Go therefore now, and work, for no straw shall be given to you, yet you shall deliver the same number of bricks!”
19นายกองชนชาติอิสราเอลก็เห็นว่าตนมีปัญหาแล้ว หลังจากถูกสั่งว่า "ไม่ให้ลดหย่อนจำนวนอิฐที่ถูกเกณฑ์ให้ทำทุกๆวันลง"
19The officers of the children of Israel saw that they were in trouble, when it was said, “You shall not diminish anything from your daily quota of bricks!”
20ครั้นออกมาจากเฝ้าฟาโรห์ เขาพบโมเสสกับอาโรนยืนอยู่กลางทาง
20They met Moses and Aaron, who stood in the way, as they came out from Pharaoh:
21เขาจึงกล่าวแก่เขาทั้งสองว่า "ขอพระเยโฮวาห์ทรงมองดูพวกท่านและพิพากษาเถิด เพราะท่านกระทำให้ชื่อของพวกข้าพเจ้าเป็นที่เกลียดชังในสายพระเนตรของฟาโรห์ และในสายตาของข้าราชการของพระองค์ เหมือนหนึ่งเอาดาบใส่มือเขาให้สังหารพวกข้าพเจ้าเสีย"
21and they said to them, “May Yahweh look at you, and judge, because you have made us a stench to be abhorred in the eyes of Pharaoh, and in the eyes of his servants, to put a sword in their hand to kill us.”
22โมเสสจึงกลับไปทูลพระเยโฮวาห์ว่า "ข้าแต่องค์พระผู้เป็นเจ้า เหตุไฉนพระองค์ทรงทำการร้ายแก่ชนชาตินี้ เหตุไฉนพระองค์จึงทรงใช้ข้าพระองค์มา
22Moses returned to Yahweh, and said, “Lord, why have you brought trouble on this people? Why is it that you have sent me?
23เพราะว่าตั้งแต่ข้าพระองค์ไปเฝ้าฟาโรห์เพื่อทูลในพระนามของพระองค์แล้ว ฟาโรห์ก็ทำทารุณแก่ชนชาตินี้ ส่วนพระองค์ก็มิได้ทรงช่วยพลไพร่ของพระองค์ให้พ้นเลย"
23For since I came to Pharaoh to speak in your name, he has brought trouble on this people; neither have you delivered your people at all.”
