¹แล้วโยชูวาก็รวบรวมบรรดาตระกูลคนอิสราเอลมาที่เชเคม แล้วเรียกพวกผู้ใหญ่ ผู้หัวหน้า ผู้พิพากษา และเจ้าหน้าที่ของอิสราเอล แล้วเขาก็มาปรากฏตัวต่อพระพักตร์พระเจ้า

¹Joshua gathered all the tribes of Israel to Shechem, and called for the elders of Israel, for their heads, for their judges, and for their officers; and they presented themselves before God.

²แล้วโยชูวากล่าวกับประชาชนทั้งสิ้นว่า "พระเยโฮวาห์พระเจ้าของอิสราเอลตรัสดังนี้ว่า `ในกาลดึกดำบรรพ์บรรพบุรุษของเจ้าอยู่ฟากแม่น้ำข้างโน้น คือเท-ราห์ บิดาของอับราฮัมและของนาโฮร์ และเขาปรนนิบัติพระอื่น

²Joshua said to all the people, “Thus says Yahweh, the God of Israel, ‘Your fathers lived of old time beyond the River, even Terah, the father of Abraham, and the father of Nahor: and they served other gods.

³I took your father Abraham from beyond the River, and led him throughout all the land of Canaan, and multiplied his seed, and gave him Isaac.

⁴I gave to Isaac Jacob and Esau: and I gave to Esau Mount Seir, to possess it. Jacob and his children went down into Egypt.

⁶I brought your fathers out of Egypt: and you came to the sea. The Egyptians pursued after your fathers with chariots and with horsemen to the Red Sea or, Sea of Reeds .

⁷และเมื่อเขาร้องทูลต่อพระเยโฮวาห์ พระองค์ก็บันดาลให้ความมืดเกิดขึ้นระหว่างเจ้าทั้งหลายและชาวอียิปต์ และกระทำให้ทะเลท่วมมิดเขา นัยน์ตาของเจ้าทั้งหลายได้เห็นสิ่งที่เรากระทำในอียิปต์ และเจ้าทั้งหลายอยู่ในถิ่นทุรกันดารช้านาน

⁷When they cried out to Yahweh, he put darkness between you and the Egyptians, and brought the sea on them, and covered them; and your eyes saw what I did in Egypt: and you lived in the wilderness many days.

⁸และเราก็นำเจ้าทั้งหลายมาที่แผ่นดินของคนอาโมไรต์ซึ่งอยู่ที่ฟากแม่น้ำจอร์แดนข้างโน้น เขาสู้รบกับเจ้าทั้งหลาย และเราได้มอบเขาไว้ในมือของเจ้า และเจ้าทั้งหลายยึดครองแผ่นดินของเขาและเราก็ทำลายเขาให้พ้นหน้าเจ้า

⁸“‘I brought you into the land of the Amorites, that lived beyond the Jordan: and they fought with you; and I gave them into your hand. You possessed their land; and I destroyed them from before you.

⁹คราวนั้นบาลาคบุตรชายศิปโปร์กษัตริย์เมืองโมอับได้ลุกขึ้นต่อสู้กับอิสราเอล เขาใช้ให้ไปตามบาลาอัมบุตรชายเบโอร์มาให้แช่งเจ้าทั้งหลาย

⁹Then Balak the son of Zippor, king of Moab, arose and fought against Israel. He sent and called Balaam the son of Beor to curse you;

¹⁰แต่เราไม่ฟังบาลาอัม เพราะฉะนั้นเขาจึงอวยพรเจ้าทั้งหลายเรื่อยไป ดังนั้นเราจึงช่วยเจ้าให้พ้นมือของเขา

¹⁰but I would not listen to Balaam; therefore he blessed you still. So I delivered you out of his hand.

¹¹และเจ้าทั้งหลายข้ามแม่น้ำจอร์แดน มาที่เมืองเยรีโค และชาวเมืองเยรีโคต่อสู้กับเจ้า และคนอาโมไรต์ คนเปริสซี คนคานาอัน คนฮิตไทต์ คนเกอร์กาชี คนฮีไวต์ และคนเยบุส และเราได้มอบเขาไว้ในมือของเจ้าทั้งหลาย

¹¹“‘You went over the Jordan, and came to Jericho. The men of Jericho fought against you, the Amorite, the Perizzite, the Canaanite, the Hittite, the Girgashite, the Hivite, and the Jebusite; and I delivered them into your hand.

¹²และเราได้ใช้ตัวต่อไปข้างหน้าเจ้าทั้งหลาย ซึ่งขับไล่กษัตริย์ทั้งสองของชาวอาโมไรต์ไปเสียให้พ้นหน้าเจ้า ไม่ใช่ด้วยดาบหรือด้วยธนูของเจ้า

¹²I sent the hornet before you, which drove them out from before you, even the two kings of the Amorites; not with your sword, nor with your bow.

¹³เราได้ยกแผ่นดินซึ่งเจ้าไม่ได้เหนื่อยกายบนนั้น และยกเมืองซึ่งเจ้าทั้งหลายไม่ต้องสร้างให้แก่เจ้าและเจ้าทั้งหลายได้เข้าอยู่ เจ้าได้กินผลของสวนองุ่นและสวนมะกอกเทศซึ่งเจ้าไม่ต้องปลูก'

¹³I gave you a land whereon you had not labored, and cities which you didn’t build, and you live in them. You eat of vineyards and olive groves which you didn’t plant.’

¹⁴เหตุฉะนั้น บัดนี้จงยำเกรงพระเยโฮวาห์และปรนนิบัติพระองค์ด้วยความจริงใจและด้วยความจริง จงทิ้งพระเหล่านั้นซึ่งบรรพบุรุษของท่านได้เคยปรนนิบัติที่ฟากแม่น้ำข้างโน้น และในอียิปต์เสีย และท่านทั้งหลายจงปรนนิบัติพระเยโฮวาห์

¹⁴“Now therefore fear Yahweh, and serve him in sincerity and in truth. Put away the gods which your fathers served beyond the River, in Egypt; and serve Yahweh.

¹⁵If it seems evil to you to serve Yahweh, choose this day whom you will serve; whether the gods which your fathers served that were beyond the River, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land you dwell: but as for me and my house, we will serve Yahweh.”

¹⁶ฝ่ายประชาชนทั้งหลายจึงตอบว่า "ขอพระเจ้าอย่ายอมให้ข้าพเจ้าทั้งหลายละทิ้งพระเยโฮวาห์ไปปรนนิบัติพระอื่นเลย

¹⁶The people answered, “Far be it from us that we should forsake Yahweh, to serve other gods;

¹⁷เพราะพระเยโฮวาห์พระเจ้าของข้าพเจ้าทั้งหลาย พระองค์นั้นทรงนำข้าพเจ้าทั้งหลายและบรรพบุรุษของข้าพเจ้าขึ้นมาจากแผ่นดินอียิปต์ และออกจากเรือนทาสนั้น และเป็นผู้ทรงกระทำหมายสำคัญยิ่งใหญ่ทั้งหลายท่ามกลางสายตาของพวกข้าพเจ้า และทรงคุ้มครองข้าพเจ้าทั้งหลายไว้ตลอดทางที่ข้าพเจ้าได้เดินไป และท่ามกลางชนชาติทั้งหลายซึ่งพวกข้าพเจ้าผ่านไป

¹⁷for it is Yahweh our God who brought us and our fathers up out of the land of Egypt, from the house of bondage, and who did those great signs in our sight, and preserved us in all the way in which we went, and among all the peoples through the midst of whom we passed.

¹⁸และพระเยโฮวาห์ทรงขับไล่ชนชาติทั้งหลายออกไปให้พ้นหน้าข้าพเจ้า คือคนอาโมไรต์ผู้ซึ่งอยู่ในแผ่นดินนั้น เพราะฉะนั้นข้าพเจ้าทั้งหลายจะปรนนิบัติพระเยโฮวาห์ด้วย เพราะว่าพระองค์ทรงเป็นพระเจ้าของข้าพเจ้าทั้งหลาย"

¹⁸Yahweh drove out from before us all the peoples, even the Amorites who lived in the land. Therefore we also will serve Yahweh; for he is our God.”

¹⁹แต่โยชูวากล่าวแก่ประชาชนว่า "ท่านทั้งหลายจะปรนนิบัติพระเยโฮวาห์ไม่ได้ ด้วยว่าพระองค์ทรงเป็นพระเจ้าบริสุทธิ์ พระองค์ทรงเป็นพระเจ้าหวงแหน พระองค์จะไม่ทรงอภัยการละเมิดหรือความบาปของท่าน

¹⁹Joshua said to the people, “You can’t serve Yahweh; for he is a holy God. He is a jealous God. He will not forgive your disobedience nor your sins.

²⁰ถ้าท่านทั้งหลายละทิ้งพระเยโฮวาห์ไปปรนนิบัติพระอื่น แล้วพระองค์จะทรงหันกลับและกระทำอันตรายแก่ท่าน และผลาญท่านเสีย หลังจากที่พระองค์ทรงกระทำดีต่อท่านแล้ว"

²⁰If you forsake Yahweh, and serve foreign gods, then he will turn and do you evil, and consume you, after he has done you good.”

²¹และประชาชนกล่าวแก่โยชูวาว่า "หามิได้ แต่ข้าพเจ้าทั้งหลายจะปรนนิบัติพระเยโฮวาห์"

²¹The people said to Joshua, “No; but we will serve Yahweh.”

²²แล้วโยชูวากล่าวแก่ประชาชนว่า "ท่านทั้งหลายเป็นพยานปรักปรำตนเองว่า ท่านได้เลือกพระเยโฮวาห์ เพื่อปรนนิบัติพระองค์นะ" และเขากล่าวว่า "ข้าพเจ้าทั้งหลายเป็นพยาน"

²²Joshua said to the people, “You are witnesses against yourselves that you have chosen Yahweh yourselves, to serve him.” They said, “We are witnesses.”

²³ท่านจึงกล่าวว่า "เพราะฉะนั้น บัดนี้จงทิ้งพระอื่นซึ่งอยู่ในหมู่พวกท่านนั้นเสีย และโน้มจิตใจของท่านเข้าหาพระเยโฮวาห์พระเจ้าของอิสราเอล"

²³“Now therefore put away the foreign gods which are among you, and incline your heart to Yahweh, the God of Israel.”

²⁴และประชาชนกล่าวแก่โยชูวาว่า "ข้าพเจ้าทั้งหลายจะปรนนิบัติพระเยโฮวาห์พระเจ้าของข้าพเจ้า และเชื่อฟังพระสุรเสียงของพระองค์"

²⁴The people said to Joshua, “We will serve Yahweh our God, and we will listen to his voice.”

²⁵ดังนั้นโยชูวาก็ได้กระทำพันธสัญญากับประชาชน และวางกฎเกณฑ์และกฎให้แก่เขาในวันนั้นที่เมืองเชเคม

²⁵So Joshua made a covenant with the people that day, and made for them a statute and an ordinance in Shechem.

²⁶และโยชูวาก็จารึกถ้อยคำเหล่านี้ไว้ในหนังสือพระราชบัญญัติของพระเจ้า และท่านได้เอาก้อนหินใหญ่ตั้งไว้ที่ใต้ต้นโอ๊กที่ในสถานบริสุทธิ์แห่งพระเยโฮวาห์

²⁶Joshua wrote these words in the book of the law of God; and he took a great stone, and set it up there under the oak that was by the sanctuary of Yahweh.

²⁷และโยชูวากล่าวแก่ประชาชนทั้งปวงว่า "ดูเถิด ศิลาก้อนนี้จะเป็นพยานปรักปรำเรา เพราะศิลานี้ได้ยินพระวจนะทั้งสิ้นแห่งพระเยโฮวาห์ซึ่งตรัสแก่เรา จึงจะเป็นพยานปรักปรำท่าน เกลือกว่าท่านจะปฏิเสธพระเจ้าของท่าน"

²⁷Joshua said to all the people, “Behold, this stone shall be a witness against us; for it has heard all the words of Yahweh which he spoke to us. It shall be therefore a witness against you, lest you deny your God.”

²⁸แล้วโยชูวาก็ปล่อยให้ประชาชนกลับไปยังที่มรดกของตนทุกคน

²⁸So Joshua sent the people away, every man to his inheritance.

²⁹อยู่มาภายหลังเหตุการณ์เหล่านี้โยชูวาบุตรชายนูนผู้รับใช้ของพระเยโฮวาห์ก็สิ้นชีวิต มีอายุหนึ่งร้อยสิบปี

²⁹It happened after these things, that Joshua the son of Nun, the servant of Yahweh, died, being one hundred and ten years old.

³⁰และเขาก็ฝังท่านไว้ในที่ดินมรดกของท่านที่เมืองทิมนาทเสราห์ ซึ่งอยู่ในแดนเทือกเขาแห่งเอฟราอิม ทิศเหนือของยอดเขากาอัช

³⁰They buried him in the border of his inheritance in Timnathserah, which is in the hill country of Ephraim, on the north of the mountain of Gaash.

³¹คนอิสราเอลได้ปรนนิบัติพระเยโฮวาห์ตลอดสมัยของโยชูวา และตลอดสมัยของพวกผู้ใหญ่ผู้มีอายุยืนนานกว่าโยชูวา ผู้ซึ่งได้ทราบถึงบรรดาพระราชกิจซึ่งพระเยโฮวาห์ทรงกระทำเพื่ออิสราเอล

³¹Israel served Yahweh all the days of Joshua, and all the days of the elders who outlived Joshua, and had known all the work of Yahweh, that he had worked for Israel.

³²กระดูกของโยเซฟซึ่งชนอิสราเอลนำมาจากอียิปต์นั้น เขาฝังไว้ที่เมืองเชเคม ในส่วนที่ดินซึ่งยาโคบซื้อไว้จากลูกหลานของฮาโมร์บิดาของเชเคมเป็นเงินหนึ่งร้อยแผ่น ที่นี้ตกเป็นมรดกของลูกหลานโยเซฟ

³²They buried the bones of Joseph, which the children of Israel brought up out of Egypt, in Shechem, in the parcel of ground which Jacob bought of the sons of Hamor the father of Shechem for a hundred pieces of money. They became the inheritance of the children of Joseph.

³³และเอเลอาซาร์บุตรชายของอาโรนก็สิ้นชีวิต และเขาฝังศพท่านไว้ในเนินเขาซึ่งเป็นของฟีเนหัสบุตรชายของท่าน ซึ่งได้มอบไว้ให้เขาในแดนเทือกเขาเอฟราอิม

³³Eleazar the son of Aaron died. They buried him in the hill of Phinehas his son, which was given him in the hill country of Ephraim.
