1ฝ่ายคนเอฟราอิมมาพร้อมกันข้ามไปทางเหนือ พูดกับเยฟธาห์ว่า "เหตุใดท่านยกข้ามไปรบคนอัมโมน แต่ไม่เรียกเราไปด้วย เราจะจุดไฟเผาเรือนทับท่านเสีย"
1The men of Ephraim were gathered together, and passed northward; and they said to Jephthah, “Why did you pass over to fight against the children of Ammon, and didn’t call us to go with you? We will burn your house around you with fire!”
2เยฟธาห์จึงตอบเขาว่า "ข้าพเจ้ากับประชาชนติดการศึกใหญ่กับคนอัมโมน เมื่อข้าพเจ้าเรียกท่านให้ช่วย ท่านไม่ได้ช่วยเราให้พ้นมือเขา
2Jephthah said to them, “I and my people were at great strife with the children of Ammon; and when I called you, you didn’t save me out of their hand.
3เมื่อข้าพเจ้าเห็นว่าท่านไม่ช่วยข้าพเจ้าแล้ว ข้าพเจ้าก็เสี่ยงชีวิตของข้าพเจ้าข้ามไปรบกับคนอัมโมน และพระเยโฮวาห์ทรงมอบเขาไว้ในมือของข้าพเจ้า วันนี้ท่านจะขึ้นมาทำศึกกับข้าพเจ้าด้วยเหตุอันใด"
3When I saw that you didn’t save me, I put my life in my hand, and passed over against the children of Ammon, and Yahweh delivered them into my hand. Why then have you come up to me this day, to fight against me?”
4เยฟธาห์จึงรวบรวมบรรดาชาวกิเลอาดสู้รบกับคนเอฟราอิม คนกิเลอาดก็ประหารคนเอฟราอิม เพราะเขากล่าวว่า "เจ้าชาวกิเลอาด เจ้าเป็นคนหลบหนีของชาวเอฟราอิมท่ามกลางคนเอฟราอิมและมนัสเสห์"
4Then Jephthah gathered together all the men of Gilead, and fought with Ephraim; and the men of Gilead struck Ephraim, because they said, “You are fugitives of Ephraim, you Gileadites, in the midst of Ephraim, and in the midst of Manasseh.”
5ชาวกิเลอาดก็เข้ายึดท่าข้ามแม่น้ำจอร์แดนไว้ไม่ให้คนเอฟราอิมข้าม เมื่อคนเอฟราอิมที่หลบหนีคนใดมาบอกว่า "ขอให้ข้ามไปทีเถิด" คนกิเลอาดจะถามเขาว่า "เจ้าเป็นคนเอฟราอิมหรือ" เมื่อเขาตอบว่า "เปล่า"
5The Gileadites took the fords of the Jordan against the Ephraimites. It was so, that when the fugitives of Ephraim said, “Let me go over,” the men of Gilead said to him, “Are you an Ephraimite?” If he said, “No”;
6เขาจะบอกว่า "จงว่าคำว่าชิบโบเลท" คนนั้นจะว่า "สิบโบเลท" เพราะคนเอฟราอิมออกเสียงคำนี้ไม่ชัด เขาจึงจับคนนั้นและฆ่าเสียที่ท่าข้ามแม่น้ำจอร์แดน คราวนั้นมีคนเอฟราอิมตายสี่หมื่นสองพันคน
6then they said to him, “Now say ‘Shibboleth;’” and he said “Sibboleth”; for he couldn’t manage to pronounce it right: then they siezed him, and killed him at the fords of the Jordan. At that time, forty-two thousand of Ephraim fell.
7เยฟธาห์วินิจฉัยอิสราเอลอยู่หกปี แล้วเยฟธาห์ชาวกิเลอาดก็สิ้นชีวิตและถูกฝังไว้ในหัวเมืองหนึ่งในกิเลอาด
7Jephthah judged Israel six years. Then Jephthah the Gileadite died, and was buried in the cities of Gilead.
8ถัดเยฟธาห์มาคืออิบซานแห่งเบธเลเฮมได้วินิจฉัยอิสราเอล
8After him Ibzan of Bethlehem judged Israel.
9ท่านมีบุตรชายสามสิบคน และบุตรสาวสามสิบคน ท่านให้แต่งงานกับคนนอกตระกูลของท่าน และท่านนำบุตรีสามสิบคนของคนนอกตระกูลมาให้แก่บุตรชายของท่าน ท่านวินิจฉัยอิสราเอลอยู่เจ็ดปี
9He had thirty sons; and thirty daughters he sent abroad, and thirty daughters he brought in from abroad for his sons. He judged Israel seven years.
10แล้วอิบซานก็สิ้นชีวิตถูกฝังไว้ที่เบธเลเฮม
10Ibzan died, and was buried at Bethlehem.
11ถัดท่านมา เอโลนคนเศบูลุนวินิจฉัยอิสราเอล และท่านวินิจฉัยอิสราเอลสิบปี
11After him Elon the Zebulunite judged Israel; and he judged Israel ten years.
12แล้วเอโลนคนเศบูลุนก็สิ้นชีวิต และถูกฝังไว้ที่อัยยาโลนในเขตแดนของคนเศบูลุน
12Elon the Zebulunite died, and was buried in Aijalon in the land of Zebulun.
13ถัดท่านมา อับโดนบุตรชายฮิลเลลชาวปิราโธนวินิจฉัยอิสราเอล
13After him Abdon the son of Hillel the Pirathonite judged Israel.
14ท่านมีบุตรชายสี่สิบคน และหลานชายสามสิบคน ขี่ลาเจ็ดสิบตัว ท่านวินิจฉัยอิสราเอลอยู่แปดปี
14He had forty sons and thirty sons’ sons, who rode on seventy donkey colts: and he judged Israel eight years.
15แล้วอับโดนบุตรชายฮิลเลลชาวปิราโธนก็สิ้นชีวิตถูกฝังไว้ที่ปิราโธนในเขตแดนของเอฟราอิมในแดนเทือกเขาของคนอามาเลข
15Abdon the son of Hillel the Pirathonite died, and was buried in Pirathon in the land of Ephraim, in the hill country of the Amalekites.
