¹มีเสียงร้องของประชาชนและของภรรยาของเขาอย่างเกรียวกราวกล่าวโทษพี่น้องพวกยิว

¹Then there arose a great cry of the people and of their wives against their brothers the Jews.

²เพราะมีคนที่กล่าวว่า "เรามากคนด้วยกัน ทั้งบุตรชายและบุตรสาวของเรา ขอให้เราได้ข้าว เพื่อเราจะได้รับประทานและมีชีวิตอยู่ได้"

²For there were that said, “We, our sons and our daughters, are many. Let us get grain, that we may eat and live.”

³และมีคนกล่าวว่า "เราต้องจำนำไร่นาของเรา สวนองุ่นของเรา และบ้านเรือนของเรา เพื่อจะได้ข้าว เพราะเหตุการกันดารอาหาร"

³Some also there were that said, “We are mortgaging our fields, and our vineyards, and our houses. Let us get grain, because of the famine.”

⁴และคนอื่นๆกล่าวว่า "เราได้ขอยืมเงินมาเป็นค่าภาษีถวายกษัตริย์ โดยจำนำนาและสวนองุ่นของเรา

⁴There were also some who said, “We have borrowed money for the king’s tribute using our fields and our vineyards as collateral.

⁵เนื้อของเราเป็นเหมือนเนื้อพี่น้องของเรา ลูกของเราก็เหมือนลูกของเขา แต่ดูเถิด เราก็ยังให้บุตรชายและบุตรสาวของเราเป็นทาส บุตรสาวของเราบางคนเป็นทาสแล้ว และเราไม่มีกำลังที่จะไถ่เขาเลย เพราะคนอื่นยึดนาและสวนองุ่นของเรา"

⁵Yet now our flesh is as the flesh of our brothers, our children as their children. Behold, we bring into bondage our sons and our daughters to be servants, and some of our daughters have been brought into bondage. Neither is it in our power to help it; for other men have our fields and our vineyards.”

⁶เมื่อข้าพเจ้าได้ยินเสียงร้องของเขา และถ้อยคำของเขา ข้าพเจ้าก็โกรธมาก

⁶I was very angry when I heard their cry and these words.

⁷ข้าพเจ้าตรึกตรองแล้วก็นำความนี้ไปกล่าวหาพวกขุนนางและเจ้าหน้าที่ ข้าพเจ้าพูดกับเขาว่า "ท่านทั้งหลายต่างคนต่างได้ให้ยืมเงินโดยคิดดอกเบี้ยจากพี่น้องของตน" และข้าพเจ้าก็เรียกชุมนุมใหญ่มาสู้กับเขา

⁷Then I consulted with myself, and contended with the nobles and the rulers, and said to them, “You exact usury, everyone of his brother.” I held a great assembly against them.

⁸และข้าพเจ้ากล่าวแก่เขาว่า "เราได้ไถ่พวกยิวพี่น้องของเราผู้ถูกขายไปยังคนต่างประเทศคืนมา ตามแต่เราจะสามารถทำได้ แต่ท่านกลับขายพี่น้องของท่าน เพื่อเขาจะได้ถูกขายให้แก่พวกเรา" คนทั้งหลายก็นิ่งอยู่ พูดไม่ออก

⁸I said to them, “We, after our ability, have redeemed our brothers the Jews that were sold to the nations; and would you even sell your brothers, and should they be sold to us?” Then they held their peace, and found never a word.

⁹ข้าพเจ้าจึงว่า "สิ่งที่ท่านทั้งหลายทำอยู่นั้นไม่ดี ไม่ควรที่ท่านจะดำเนินในความยำเกรงพระเจ้าของเราทั้งหลาย เพื่อป้องกันการเยาะเย้ยของประชาชาติเหล่านั้น ซึ่งเป็นศัตรูของเราดอกหรือ

⁹Also I said, “The thing that you do is not good. Ought you not to walk in the fear of our God, because of the reproach of the nations our enemies?

¹⁰ยิ่งกว่านั้นอีก ข้าพเจ้ากับพี่น้องของข้าพเจ้าและคนใช้ของข้าพเจ้าให้เขายืมเงินและยืมข้าว ให้เราเลิกการให้ยืมโดยคิดดอกเบี้ยนั้นเสียเถิด

¹⁰I likewise, my brothers and my servants, lend them money and grain. Please let us stop this usury.

¹¹ในวันนี้ ขอจงคืนมา ไร่นา สวนองุ่น สวนมะกอกเทศ และเรือนของเขา และส่วนร้อยของเงิน ข้าว น้ำองุ่น และน้ำมัน ซึ่งท่านได้รีดเอาจากเขานั้นเสีย"

¹¹Please restore to them, even this day, their fields, their vineyards, their olive groves, and their houses, also the hundredth part of the money, and of the grain, the new wine, and the oil, that you are charging them.”

¹²แล้วเขาทั้งหลายพูดว่า "เราจะคืนสิ่งเหล่านี้และจะไม่เรียกร้องสิ่งใดๆจากเขาทั้งหลาย เราจะกระทำตามที่ท่านพูด" และข้าพเจ้าก็เรียกบรรดาปุโรหิตมา และให้ปุโรหิตเอาคำปฏิญาณจากเขาทั้งหลายว่า เขาจะกระทำตามที่เขาสัญญาแล้วนั้น

¹²Then they said, “We will restore them, and will require nothing of them; so will we do, even as you say.” Then I called the priests, and took an oath of them, that they would do according to this promise.

¹³ข้าพเจ้าก็สลัดตักของข้าพเจ้าด้วย และพูดว่า "ดังนั้นแหละถ้าคนใดมิได้กระทำตามสัญญานี้ ขอพระเจ้าทรงสลัดเขาเสียจากเรือนของเขา และจากการงานของเขา ให้เขาถูกสลัดออกแล้วไปตัวเปล่า" และชุมนุมชนทั้งปวงกล่าวว่า "เอเมน" และได้สรรเสริญพระเยโฮวาห์ แล้วประชาชนก็ได้กระทำตามที่เขาได้สัญญาไว้

¹³Also I shook out my lap, and said, “So may God shake out every man from his house, and from his labor, that doesn’t perform this promise; even thus be he shaken out, and emptied.” All the assembly said, “Amen,” and praised Yahweh. The people did according to this promise.

¹⁴"ยิ่งกว่านั้นอีก ตั้งแต่เวลาที่ข้าพเจ้าได้รับแต่งตั้งให้เป็นผู้ว่าราชการในแผ่นดินยูดาห์ ตั้งแต่ปีที่ยี่สิบจนปีที่สามสิบสองแห่งรัชกาลกษัตริย์อารทาเซอร์ซีส สิบสองปีด้วยกัน ข้าพเจ้าหรือพี่น้องของข้าพเจ้ามิได้รับประทานอาหารของตำแหน่งผู้ว่าราชการ

¹⁴Moreover from the time that I was appointed to be their governor in the land of Judah, from the twentieth year even to the two and thirtieth year of Artaxerxes the king, that is, twelve years, I and my brothers have not eaten the bread of the governor.

¹⁵ผู้ว่าราชการคนที่อยู่ก่อนข้าพเจ้าได้เบียดเบียนประชาชน ได้เอาเงินเป็นค่าอาหารและน้ำองุ่นไปจากเขา นอกจากเงินวันละสี่สิบเชเขล แม้ข้าราชการของท่านก็ได้ใช้อำนาจเหนือประชาชน แต่ข้าพเจ้ามิได้กระทำเช่นนั้น เพราะความยำเกรงพระเจ้า

¹⁵But the former governors who were before me were supported by the people, and took bread and wine from them, besides forty shekels of silver; yes, even their servants ruled over the people: but I didn’t do so, because of the fear of God.

¹⁶ข้าพเจ้ายังยึดงานสร้างกำแพงนี้อยู่ และมิได้ซื้อที่ดินเลย และคนใช้ของข้าพเจ้าทั้งสิ้นก็ได้ชุมนุมกันทำงานกันที่นั่น

¹⁶Yes, also I continued in the work of this wall, neither bought we any land: and all my servants were gathered there to the work.

¹⁷ยิ่งกว่านั้น ข้าพเจ้ามีคนหนึ่งร้อยห้าสิบร่วมสำรับกับข้าพเจ้า คือพวกยิวและเจ้าหน้าที่ นอกเหนือจากบรรดาผู้ที่มาอยู่กับเราทั้งหลายจากประชาชาติผู้ซึ่งอยู่รอบเรา

¹⁷Moreover there were at my table, of the Jews and the rulers, one hundred fifty men, besides those who came to us from among the nations that were around us.

¹⁸สิ่งที่เตรียมไว้ในวันหนึ่งๆ มีวัวตัวหนึ่ง และแกะที่คัดเลือกแล้วหกตัว เป็ดไก่เขาก็จัดไว้ให้ข้าพเจ้าด้วย ในทุกๆสิบวันน้ำองุ่นมากมายหลายถุงหนัง แม้จะมากอย่างนี้ ข้าพเจ้ามิได้เรียกร้องเอาส่วนอาหารของตำแหน่งผู้ว่าราชการ เพราะว่าการปรนนิบัตินั้นหนักหน้าชนชาตินี้อยู่แล้ว

¹⁸Now that which was prepared for one day was one ox and six choice sheep; also fowls were prepared for me, and once in ten days store of all sorts of wine: yet for all this I didn’t demand the bread of the governor, because the bondage was heavy on this people.

¹⁹ข้าแต่พระเจ้าของข้าพระองค์ ขอทรงระลึกถึงสิ่งที่ข้าพระองค์ได้กระทำเพื่อชนชาตินี้ให้เกิดผลดีเถิด"

¹⁹Remember to me, my God, for good, all that I have done for this people.
