1บุตรทั้งหลายเอ๋ย จงฟังคำสั่งสอนของพ่อเจ้า ให้ตั้งใจฟังเพื่อเจ้าจะได้รับความเข้าใจ
1Listen, sons, to a father’s instruction. Pay attention and know understanding;
2เพราะเราให้หลักคำสอนที่ดีแก่เจ้า อย่าละทิ้งกฎเกณฑ์ของเรา
2for I give you sound learning. Don’t forsake my law.
3เพราะเราเป็นลูกชายของพ่อเรา ดูอ่อนโยนและเป็นที่รักยิ่งในสายตาของแม่เรา
3For I was a son to my father, tender and an only child in the sight of my mother.
4บิดาสอนเรา และพูดกับเราว่า "ให้ใจของเจ้ายึดคำสอนของเราไว้ให้มั่น จงรักษาบัญญัติของเรา และมีชีวิตอยู่
4He taught me, and said to me: “Let your heart retain my words. Keep my commandments, and live.
5อย่าลืมและอย่าหันกลับจากถ้อยคำแห่งปากของเรา จงเอาปัญญา และเอาความเข้าใจ
5Get wisdom. Get understanding. Don’t forget, neither swerve from the words of my mouth.
6อย่าทอดทิ้งเธอ และเธอจะรักษาเจ้าไว้ จงรักเธอ และเธอจะระแวดระวังเจ้า
6Don’t forsake her, and she will preserve you. Love her, and she will keep you.
7ปัญญาเป็นสิ่งสำคัญที่สุด ฉะนั้นจงเอาปัญญา แม้เจ้าจะได้อะไรก็ตาม จงเอาความเข้าใจไว้
7Wisdom is supreme. Get wisdom. Yes, though it costs all your possessions, get understanding.
8จงตีราคาเธอให้สูง และเธอจะยกย่องเจ้า ถ้าเจ้ากอดเธอไว้ เธอจะให้เกียรติเจ้า
8Esteem her, and she will exalt you. She will bring you to honor, when you embrace her.
9เธอจะเอามาลัยงามสวมศีรษะเจ้า เธอจะให้มงกุฎแห่งสง่าราศีแก่เจ้า"
9She will give to your head a garland of grace. She will deliver a crown of splendor to you.”
10บุตรชายของเราเอ๋ย จงฟังและรับถ้อยคำของเรา เพื่อปีเดือนแห่งชีวิตของเจ้าจะมากหลาย
10Listen, my son, and receive my sayings. The years of your life will be many.
11เราได้สอนเจ้าในเรื่องทางปัญญาแล้ว เราได้นำเจ้าในวิถีของความเที่ยงธรรม
11I have taught you in the way of wisdom. I have led you in straight paths.
12เมื่อเจ้าเดิน ย่างเท้าของเจ้าจะไม่ถูกขัดขวาง และเมื่อเจ้าวิ่ง เจ้าจะไม่สะดุด
12When you go, your steps will not be hampered. When you run, you will not stumble.
13จงยึดคำสั่งสอนไว้ และอย่าปล่อยไป จงระแวดระวังเธอไว้ เพราะเธอเป็นชีวิตของเจ้า
13Take firm hold of instruction. Don’t let her go. Keep her, for she is your life.
14อย่าเข้าไปในวิถีของคนชั่ว และอย่าเดินในทางของคนชั่วร้าย
14Don’t enter into the path of the wicked. Don’t walk in the way of evil men.
15จงหลีกเสีย อย่าเดินบนนั้น เลี้ยวออกไปเสีย และจงผ่านไป
15Avoid it, and don’t pass by it. Turn from it, and pass on.
16เพราะถ้าคนชั่วร้ายไม่ได้ทำความผิด เขานอนไม่หลับ ถ้าเขาไม่ได้ทำให้คนใดสะดุด เขาจะหลับไม่ลง
16For they don’t sleep, unless they do evil. Their sleep is taken away, unless they make someone fall.
17เพราะเขารับประทานอาหารของความชั่วร้าย และดื่มเหล้าองุ่นแห่งความทารุณ
17For they eat the bread of wickedness, and drink the wine of violence.
18แต่วิถีของคนชอบธรรมเหมือนแสงอรุณ ซึ่งฉายสุกใสยิ่งขึ้นๆจนเต็มวัน
18But the path of the righteous is like the dawning light, that shines more and more until the perfect day.
19ทางของคนชั่วร้ายก็เหมือนความมืดทึบ เขาไม่ทราบว่าเขาสะดุดอะไร
19The way of the wicked is like darkness. They don’t know what they stumble over.
20บุตรชายของเราเอ๋ย จงตั้งใจต่อถ้อยคำของเรา จงเอียงหูของเจ้าเข้าหาคำพูดของเรา
20My son, attend to my words. Turn your ear to my sayings.
21อย่าให้มันหนีไปจากสายตาของเจ้า จงรักษามันไว้ภายในใจของเจ้า
21Let them not depart from your eyes. Keep them in the midst of your heart.
22เพราะมันเป็นชีวิตแก่ผู้ที่ค้นพบ และมันเป็นสุขภาพแก่เนื้อของผู้นั้นทั้งสิ้น
22For they are life to those who find them, and health to their whole body.
23จงรักษาใจของเจ้าด้วยความระวังระไวรอบด้าน เพราะแหล่งแห่งชีวิตเริ่มต้นออกมาจากใจ
23Keep your heart with all diligence, for out of it is the wellspring of life.
24จงหันไปจากปากที่พูดคดเคี้ยว และให้ริมฝีปากลดเลี้ยวอยู่ห่างจากเจ้า
24Put away from yourself a perverse mouth. Put corrupt lips far from you.
25ให้ตาของเจ้ามองตรงไปข้างหน้า และให้หนังตาของเจ้ามองตรงไปข้างหน้าเจ้า
25Let your eyes look straight ahead. Fix your gaze directly before you.
26จงพิจารณาวิถีแห่งเท้าของเจ้า แล้วทางทั้งสิ้นของเจ้าจะมั่นคง
26Make the path of your feet level. Let all of your ways be established.
27อย่าเหไปข้างขวาหรือหันมาข้างซ้าย จงกลับเท้าของเจ้าเสียจากความชั่วร้าย
27Don’t turn to the right hand nor to the left. Remove your foot from evil.
