¹บุตรชายของเราเอ๋ย ถ้าเจ้าเป็นผู้ประกันเพื่อนของเจ้า ได้ทำสัญญาให้แก่คนแปลกหน้า

¹My son, if you have become collateral for your neighbor, if you have struck your hands in pledge for a stranger;

²เจ้าจึงติดบ่วงเพราะคำจากปากของเจ้า และเจ้าติดกับเพราะคำพูดจากปากของเจ้า

²You are trapped by the words of your mouth. You are ensnared with the words of your mouth.

³บุตรชายของเราเอ๋ย จงทำอย่างนี้และช่วยตัวเจ้าให้รอดเถิด เพราะเมื่อเจ้าตกอยู่ในกำมือเพื่อนของเจ้าแล้ว ไป รีบไปวิงวอนเพื่อนของเจ้า

³Do this now, my son, and deliver yourself, since you have come into the hand of your neighbor. Go, humble yourself. Press your plea with your neighbor.

⁴อย่าให้ตาของเจ้าหลับลง อย่าให้หนังตาของเจ้าปรือไป

⁴Give no sleep to your eyes, nor slumber to your eyelids.

⁵จงปลีกตัวของเจ้าจากภัย อย่างละมั่งที่ปลีกตัวจากมือของพราน อย่างนกจากมือของคนจับนก

⁵Free yourself, like a gazelle from the hand of the hunter, like a bird from the snare of the fowler.

⁶คนเกียจคร้านเอ๋ย ไปหามดไป๊ พิเคราะห์ดูทางของมัน และจงฉลาด

⁶Go to the ant, you sluggard. Consider her ways, and be wise;

⁷โดยปราศจากผู้นำทาง ผู้ดูแลหรือผู้ปกครอง

⁸มันเตรียมอาหารของมันในฤดูแล้ง และส่ำสมของกินของมันในฤดูเกี่ยว

⁸provides her bread in the summer, and gathers her food in the harvest.

⁹คนเกียจคร้านเอ๋ย เจ้าจะนอนนานเท่าใด เมื่อไรเจ้าจะลุกขึ้นจากหลับ

⁹How long will you sleep, sluggard? When will you arise out of your sleep?

¹⁰หลับนิด เคลิ้มหน่อย กอดมือพักนิดหน่อย

¹⁰A little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of the hands to sleep:

¹¹ความจนจะมาเหนือเจ้าอย่างคนจร และความขัดสนอย่างคนถืออาวุธ

¹¹so your poverty will come as a robber, and your scarcity as an armed man.

¹²คนเหลวไหล คือคนชั่วร้าย ที่เที่ยวไปด้วยปากคดเคี้ยว

¹²A worthless person, a man of iniquity, is he who walks with a perverse mouth;

¹³ตาของเขาก็ขยิบ เท้าของเขาก็ขยับ นิ้วของเขาก็ชี้ไป

¹³who winks with his eyes, who signals with his feet, who motions with his fingers;

¹⁴ประดิษฐ์ความชั่วร้ายอยู่เรื่อยไปด้วยใจตลบตะแลง หว่านความแตกร้าว

¹⁴in whose heart is perverseness, who devises evil continually, who always sows discord.

¹⁵เพราะฉะนั้นความหายนะจะมาถึงเขาอย่างปัจจุบันทันด่วน ฉับพลันนั้นเองเขาจะแตกอย่างซ่อมไม่ได้

¹⁵Therefore his calamity will come suddenly. He will be broken suddenly, and that without remedy.

¹⁶หกสิ่งเหล่านี้พระเยโฮวาห์ทรงเกลียด เออ มีเจ็ดสิ่งเป็นที่น่าสะอิดสะเอียนสำหรับพระองค์

¹⁶There are six things which Yahweh hates; yes, seven which are an abomination to him:

¹⁷ตายโส ลิ้นมุสา และมือที่ทำโลหิตไร้ผิดให้ตก

¹⁷haughty eyes, a lying tongue, hands that shed innocent blood;

¹⁸จิตใจที่คิดแผนงานชั่วร้าย เท้าซึ่งรีบวิ่งไปสู่ความร้าย

¹⁸a heart that devises wicked schemes, feet that are swift in running to mischief,

¹⁹พยานเท็จซึ่งพูดมุสา และคนผู้หว่านความแตกร้าวท่ามกลางพวกพี่น้อง

¹⁹a false witness who utters lies, and he who sows discord among brothers.

²⁰บุตรชายของเราเอ๋ย จงรักษาบัญญัติของพ่อเจ้า และอย่าละทิ้งกฎเกณฑ์ของแม่เจ้า

²⁰My son, keep your father’s commandment, and don’t forsake your mother’s teaching.

²¹มัดมันติดไว้บนใจของเจ้าเสมอ ผูกมันไว้ที่คอของเจ้า

²¹Bind them continually on your heart. Tie them around your neck.

²²เมื่อเจ้าเดิน มันจะนำเจ้า เมื่อเจ้านอนลง มันจะเฝ้าเจ้า และเมื่อเจ้าตื่นขึ้น มันจะพูดกับเจ้า

²²When you walk, it will lead you. When you sleep, it will watch over you. When you awake, it will talk with you.

²³เพราะพระบัญญัติเป็นประทีป และพระราชบัญญัติเป็นสว่าง และคำตักเตือนแห่งการสั่งสอนเป็นทางแห่งชีวิต

²³For the commandment is a lamp, and the law is light. Reproofs of instruction are the way of life,

²⁴เพื่อสงวนเจ้าไว้จากหญิงชั่วร้าย จากลิ้นพะเน้าพะนอของหญิงสัญจร

²⁴to keep you from the immoral woman, from the flattery of the wayward wife’s tongue.

²⁵อย่าปรารถนาความงามของนางอยู่ในใจของเจ้า อย่าให้นางจับเจ้าด้วยหนังตาของนาง

²⁵Don’t lust after her beauty in your heart, neither let her captivate you with her eyelids.

²⁶เพราะโดยวิธีการของหญิงแพศยา ชายคนใดอาจเหลือแค่ขนมปังก้อนเดียวได้ และหญิงเล่นชู้ล่าชีวิตประเสริฐของชายทีเดียว

²⁶For a prostitute reduces you to a piece of bread. The adulteress hunts for your precious life.

²⁷ผู้ชายจะหอบไฟไว้ที่อกของเขาโดยไม่ให้เสื้อผ้าของเขาไหม้ได้หรือ

²⁷Can a man scoop fire into his lap, and his clothes not be burned?

²⁸หรือผู้ใดจะเดินบนถ่านที่ลุกโพลง โดยไม่ให้เท้าของเขาถูกไฟลวกได้หรือ

²⁸Or can one walk on hot coals, and his feet not be scorched?

²⁹บุคคลผู้เข้าหาภรรยาของเพื่อนบ้านก็เป็นอย่างนั้นแหละ ไม่มีผู้ใดที่แตะต้องนางแล้วจะไร้ความผิด

²⁹So is he who goes in to his neighbor’s wife. Whoever touches her will not be unpunished.

³⁰ถ้าขโมยเข้าลักเพื่อบรรเทาความอยากเมื่อเขาหิว คนไม่ดูหมิ่นขโมยนั้นมิใช่หรือ

³⁰Men don’t despise a thief, if he steals to satisfy himself when he is hungry:

³¹ถ้าจับเขาได้ เขาต้องชำระคืนเจ็ดเท่า เขาจะต้องให้สิ่งของทั้งสิ้นในบ้านของเขา

³¹but if he is found, he shall restore seven times. He shall give all the wealth of his house.

³²แต่ผู้ใดที่ล่วงประเวณีกับผู้หญิงคนหนึ่งก็ขาดความเข้าใจ ผู้ใดที่กระทำอย่างนั้นก็ทำลายจิตใจตนเอง

³²He who commits adultery with a woman is void of understanding. He who does it destroys his own soul.

³³เขาได้รับบาดแผลและความอัปยศ และจะล้างความขายหน้าของตนหาได้ไม่

³³He will get wounds and dishonor. His reproach will not be wiped away.

³⁴เพราะความริษยากระทำให้คนเกรี้ยวกราด ในวันที่เขาแก้แค้น เขาจะไม่เพลามือ

³⁴For jealousy arouses the fury of the husband. He won’t spare in the day of vengeance.

³⁵เขาจะไม่รับค่าทำขวัญใดๆ ถึงเจ้าจะทวีของกำนัล เขาก็ไม่ยอมสงบ

³⁵He won’t regard any ransom, neither will he rest content, though you give many gifts.
