1Yahudilerin Nikodim adlı bir önderi vardı. Ferisilerden olan bu adam bir gece İsa'ya gelerek, «Rabbî, senin Tanrı'dan gelmiş bir öğretmen olduğunu biliyoruz. Çünkü Tanrı kendisiyle birlikte olmadıkça hiç kimse senin yaptığın bu mucizeleri yapamaz» dedi.
1Now there was a man of the Pharisees named Nicodemus, a ruler of the Jews.
3İsa ona şu karşılığı verdi: «Sana doğrusunu söyleyeyim, bir kimse yeniden doğmadıkça Tanrı'nın Egemenliğini göremez.»
2The same came to him by night, and said to him, “Rabbi, we know that you are a teacher come from God, for no one can do these signs that you do, unless God is with him.”
4Nikodim, «Yaşlanmış bir adam nasıl doğabilir? Annesinin rahmine ikinci kez girip doğabilir mi?» diye sordu.
3Jesus answered him, “Most certainly, I tell you, unless one is born anew, The word translated “anew” here and in John 3:7 (anothen) also means “again” and “from above”. he can’t see the Kingdom of God.”
5İsa şöyle cevap verdi: «Sana doğrusunu söyleyeyim, bir kimse sudan ve Ruh'tan doğmadıkça Tanrı'nın Egemenliğine giremez.
4Nicodemus said to him, “How can a man be born when he is old? Can he enter a second time into his mother’s womb, and be born?”
6Bedenden doğan bedendir, Ruh'tan doğan ruhtur.
5Jesus answered, “Most certainly I tell you, unless one is born of water and spirit, he can’t enter into the Kingdom of God!
7Sana, `Yeniden doğmalısınız' dediğime şaşma.
6 That which is born of the flesh is flesh. That which is born of the Spirit is spirit.
8Yel dilediği yerde eser; sesini işitirsin, ama nereden gelip nereye gittiğini bilemezsin. Ruh'tan doğan her adam da böyledir.»
7 Don’t marvel that I said to you, ‘You must be born anew.’
9Nikodim İsa'ya, «Bunlar nasıl olabilir?» diye sordu.
8 The wind The same Greek word (pneuma) means wind, breath, and spirit. blows where it wants to, and you hear its sound, but don’t know where it comes from and where it is going. So is everyone who is born of the Spirit.”
10İsa ona şöyle cevap verdi: «Sen İsrail'in öğretmeni olduğun halde bunları anlamıyor musun?
9Nicodemus answered him, “How can these things be?”
11Sana doğrusunu söyleyeyim, biz bildiğimizi söylüyoruz, gördüğümüze tanıklık ediyoruz. Sizler ise bizim tanıklığımızı kabul etmiyorsunuz.
10Jesus answered him, “Are you the teacher of Israel, and don’t understand these things?
12Sizlere yeryüzüyle ilgili şeyleri söylediğim zaman inanmazsanız, gökle ilgili şeyleri söylediğimde nasıl inanacaksınız?
11 Most certainly I tell you, we speak that which we know, and testify of that which we have seen, and you don’t receive our witness.
13Gökten inmiş olan İnsanoğlu'ndan başka hiç kimse göğe çıkmamıştır.
12 If I told you earthly things and you don’t believe, how will you believe if I tell you heavenly things?
14Musa çölde yılanı nasıl yukarı kaldırdıysa, İnsanoğlu'nun da öylece yukarı kaldırılması gerekir.
13 No one has ascended into heaven, but he who descended out of heaven, the Son of Man, who is in heaven.
15Öyle ki, O'na iman eden herkes sonsuz yaşama kavuşsun.
14 As Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of Man be lifted up,
16«Çünkü Tanrı dünyayı o kadar çok sevdi ki, biricik Oğlunu verdi. Öyle ki, O'na iman edenlerin hiçbiri mahvolmasın, ama hepsi sonsuz yaşama kavuşsun.
15 that whoever believes in him should not perish, but have eternal life.
17Tanrı, Oğlunu dünyayı yargılamak için dünyaya göndermedi, dünya O'nun aracılığıyla kurtulsun diye gönderdi.
16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish, but have eternal life.
18O'na iman eden yargılanmaz, iman etmeyen ise zaten yargılanmıştır. Çünkü Tanrı'nın biricik Oğlunun adına iman etmemiştir.
17 For God didn’t send his Son into the world to judge the world, but that the world should be saved through him.
19Yargı da şudur: dünyaya ışık geldi, ama insanlar ışığın yerine karanlığı sevdiler. Çünkü yaptıkları işler kötüydü.
18 He who believes in him is not judged. He who doesn’t believe has been judged already, because he has not believed in the name of the one and only Son of God.
20Kötülük yapan herkes ışıktan nefret eder ve işleri açığa çıkmasın diye ışığa gelmez.
19 This is the judgment, that the light has come into the world, and men loved the darkness rather than the light; for their works were evil.
21Ama gerçeği uygulayan kişi, yaptıklarını Tanrı'ya dayanarak yaptığı belli olsun diye ışığa gelir.»
20 For everyone who does evil hates the light, and doesn’t come to the light, lest his works would be exposed.
22Bundan sonra İsa'yla öğrencileri Yahudiye diyarına gittiler. İsa onlarla birlikte orada bir süre kalarak vaftiz etti.
21 But he who does the truth comes to the light, that his works may be revealed, that they have been done in God.”
23Yahya da Salim yakınındaki Aynon'da vaftiz ediyordu. Çünkü orada bol su vardı. İnsanlar gelip vaftiz oluyorlardı.
22After these things, Jesus came with his disciples into the land of Judea. He stayed there with them, and baptized.
24Yahya henüz hapse atılmamıştı.
23John also was baptizing in Enon near Salim, because there was much water there. They came, and were baptized.
25O sıralarda Yahya'nın öğrencileriyle bir Yahudi arasında temizlenme konusunda bir tartışma çıktı.
24For John was not yet thrown into prison.
26Öğrencileri Yahya'ya gelerek, «Rabbî» dediler, «Şeria nehrinin ötesinde birlikte olduğun ve kendisi için tanıklık ettiğin adam var ya, işte o adam vaftiz ediyor, herkes de O'na gidiyor.»
25There arose therefore a questioning on the part of John’s disciples with some Jews about purification.
27Yahya şöyle cevap verdi: «İnsan, kendisine gökten verilmedikçe hiçbir şey alamaz.
26They came to John, and said to him, “Rabbi, he who was with you beyond the Jordan, to whom you have testified, behold, the same baptizes, and everyone is coming to him.”
28`Ben Mesih değilim, ama O'nun öncüsü olarak gönderildim' dediğime siz kendiniz tanıksınız.
27John answered, “A man can receive nothing, unless it has been given him from heaven.
29Gelin kiminse, güvey odur. Ama güveyin yanında duran ve onu dinleyen dostu onun sesini işitince çok sevinir. İşte benim sevincim böylece tamamlandı.
28You yourselves testify that I said, ‘I am not the Christ,’ but, ‘I have been sent before him.’
30O büyümeli, bense küçülmeliyim.»
29He who has the bride is the bridegroom; but the friend of the bridegroom, who stands and hears him, rejoices greatly because of the bridegroom’s voice. This, my joy, therefore is made full.
31Yukarıdan gelen, herkesten üstündür. Dünyadan olan dünyaya aittir ve dünyadan söz eder. Gökten gelen ise, herkesten üstündür.
30He must increase, but I must decrease.
32Ne görmüş ne işitmişse ona tanıklık eder, ama tanıklığını kimse kabul etmez.
31He who comes from above is above all. He who is from the earth belongs to the earth, and speaks of the earth. He who comes from heaven is above all.
33O'nun tanıklığını kabul eden, Tanrı'nın gerçek olduğuna mührünü basmıştır.
32What he has seen and heard, of that he testifies; and no one receives his witness.
34Tanrı'nın gönderdiği kişi Tanrı'nın sözlerini söyler. Çünkü Tanrı, Ruh'u ölçüyle vermez.
33He who has received his witness has set his seal to this, that God is true.
35Baba Oğul'u sever ve her şeyi O'na emanet etmiştir.
34For he whom God has sent speaks the words of God; for God gives the Spirit without measure.
36Oğul'a iman edenin sonsuz yaşamı vardır. Ama Oğul'un sözünü dinlemeyen yaşamı görmeyecektir. Tanrı'nın gazabı böylesinin üzerinde kalır.
35The Father loves the Son, and has given all things into his hand.
36One who believes in the Son has eternal life, but one who disobeys The same word can be translated “disobeys” or “disbelieves” in this context. the Son won’t see life, but the wrath of God remains on him.”
